  1. Love SF. As mentioned above, Alcatraz and Muir Woods should be at the top of your list. The Nike missile site in Golden Gate Recreation Site was fascinating as well as all the views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the Headlands. We have stayed in several different areas of SF, including by the wharf, downtown and nearby Sausalito. Each place was unique and had plenty to do close by. If you are flying into SF, take a cab to your hotel and walk and ride the trolley. Plan on doing a LOT of walking. Rent a car for a couple of days or more to explore outside the city, especially if you want to visit the wine country. I recommend Sonoma over Napa. More laid back and less crowded. There is so much to see in the area I guarantee you will be returning another time to see what you have missed.
  2. It is amazing to see them tied for the best record in their division without having all their starters playing since the first couple of games. When I look at the game stats the next day I don't recognize half the names. Of course because I have Dish I still don't get to see them on TV. I may have to convert to Direct TV or something. (Anything but Comcast)
  3. They also seemed to have stopped issuing you credit when on vacation. They use to show that option when you put your subscription on vacation hold. Now you get two choices: deliver my papers when I return or don't deliver my papers when I return. Nothing is mentioned about a credit to your account. I did finally get a paper around 4pm that same day. Plus I got another one delivered with my next day's paper. Perhaps I will go stand under an overpass and sell the extra copy.
  4. Guess I shouldn't have made that comment yesterday. They didn't deliver my paper this morning. Another problem. They no longer bring you out a paper when you report it missing. Have to wait till the next day. Man do I miss the Post.
  5. This is nothing new. They have had a terrible website since the beginning. It's slow, bloated, has poor content, not updated very frequently, hard to navigate and even harder to search for a past article. And don't even get me started about the subscriber service. Other then that it's great!
  6. It would be nice if they just eliminated all the streets but Rice blvd and University. Rice does have a shuttle to their graduate apartments (one block south of University and Morningside) although the Village is easy to walk to from the campus. I don't think the Village has ever been a big University hot-spot though.
  7. Wish I had a list of establishments the Dhanani brothers owned so I could be sure to avoid them.
  8. It's been a while since I've been in Atlantic City but the way I remember it the casinos and board walk was the nice features of the city. Travel a block away though and it gets downright scary. I don't think Harrah's in New Orleans has had much of an impact on the city at all. It is kind of fun to watch all the "players" in their big black SUV's crowd into the place. I think every drug dealer on the Gulf Coast must go there. If anything Lake Charles has improved with the casinos. I haven't been to Vegas in years but it seems it's entertainment that attracts most people there now, not gambling. I think, like the lotto, initially Texas casinos would be popular but would grow old after a while. Does anyone remember how crowded the dog racing park by Texas City was when it first opened? Now there's more employees then customers most nights.
  9. Perhaps Dan Patrick will allow casinos in all the Bucky's locations.
  10. Would love to see it happen in Galveston. Not sure about giving it just to the big cities in Texas though. Never will happen anyway. To many Baptist.
  11. Always loved their show. He will be missed.
  12. Since the city limits covers both sides of 90 I'm not sure what area your referring to, but lots of retail is slated to go up in that area. Even heard the development at 90 and 6 will be similar to Katy's La Centerra when completed. And look for more retail by the ball park and old sugar factory to go up soon.
  13. The GOP has again capture Congress which means trouble for Obama. The good thing is DC has legalized pot so when things get nasty for Democrats Obama can retreat to the Oval Office and toke a fattie. A win-win for everyone.
  14. Visited Seattle for the first time a couple of years ago (before pot was legal) and really loved it despite having worst traffic than Austin. Hope you visited the Chihuly glass garden. It was awesome. I don't remember seeing that many bums/homeless people. Certainly not on par with say San Francisco. Did notice a lot of construction downtown even 2 years ago before the economy got better. It was a very walkable downtown. The monorail was cool even though it was a short ride from the Space Needle to the shopping district. Only spent like 2 days downtown. Definitely will return. Best thing about Seattle is it's just a ferry ride from some beautiful little port towns and mountains.
  15. I went once to Mark's and although I didn't find the food terrible, I thought it expensive for what you got. It's a cool old building though and worth a visit for the atmosphere.
  16. It's all irrelevant. Obviously with this new voter ID law, nobody's going to be able to vote anyway.
  17. Most though are just obese and/or lazy and don't want to walk far. They're the same people that won't return their carts to a cart area, just push it aside to be some one else's problem. To me a walkable neighborhood means no thru streets. I've been lucky enough to have had those type neighborhoods my last 4 homes but only because they have been in the "burbs".
  18. 50 is the new 40! Really depends on how long you plan on working before retiring and if the advanced degree will be adding additional money to your retirement so you can live more comfortably in your old age.
