  1. Ate there about a month ago (Houston location). Decent burger. Place reminded me a lot of Austin's Hopdaddy. Awesome bourbon/caramel shake. Not an easy place to find.
  2. Tried the one in Sugar Land. If you like Outback or Saltgrass you will probably like Longhorn.
  3. I joined because of the Historic Houston thread. I was a member for at least 2 years before I even ventured into other HAIF threads. Still enjoy hearing about old H-town people and places the most.
  4. Scenario 3. I keep my car and go and come as I please. The first two will not happen in our lifetime.
  5. Good list. I would add Fiesta for those south of the border "treats" you can't find anywhere else. I have been buying my seafood and good cuts of meat from WF. Costs more but there really is a difference. And they have a good craft beer selection.
  6. Want more? Read Vicki's book "Boy's From Houston". http://www.amazon.com/Boys-From-Houston-spirit-music/dp/1489501312/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1384490272&sr=8-1&keywords=Boys+from+Houston http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~tannahil/
  7. Great article. So much history. Sadly most of those that voted for it's demise probably never witnessed or where even aware of any of.
  8. The Willow Bend near Stella Link photos brought back memories. Last pic was I believe where the old S. Main drive-in was located. Also I can remember when that now vacant strip center was bustling.
  9. I just recently visited the New England area for the first time. Traffic circles EVERYWHERE. (Or roundabouts, whatever you want to call them). Seemed to be working up there but not sure about down here.

    United Airlines

After flying Jet Blue for the first time very recently, I will never fly United again (except maybe overseas). Added bonus of flying out of Hobby instead of the wretched IAH.
  11. Having lived in SL for over 25 years it's amazing to witness the growth out here. It was a sleepy little community when I first moved here. I can accept the growth but the 59 traffic gets worse every year. Something had to be done to help commuters. Improving the hwy 90 commute would really help. They need to get rid of the bottleneck at 610 in the mornings.
  12. I agree. There are generations of people that have relied on handouts. Would eliminating those handouts cause crime to increase or would it inspire people to succeed in life?
  13. I'm about half way through the book. She kind of jumps around a bit and because she grew up in the southeast part of Houston by Pasadena there is a lot of focus on bands and clubs from that area.early on. Some I've never heard of but it's still a very interesting if you grew up in the Houston area, particularly during the 60's. Later she talks about the influence the Catacombs and Love Street had on bands. She had a great interview with one of my favorite Houston bands, Fever Tree. It's a good read for old Houston hippies. She even credits me with one of the photos used in the book.
  14. I feel your pain. My daughter and her boyfriend just moved back to Houston from Austin and found Houston real estate to be as bad as Austin. (Hard to find and way over priced). They ended up renting a duplex in Montrose sight-unseen. Two years ago they could not rent the place for half of what they are getting now but demand is so high property owners are taking advantage of it and gouging renters.
  15. Across from the airport? Yes. Developer wants to sell homes before beginning commercial development. He'd better hurry though because a lot of commercial development is starting in Telfair just on the other side of 90.
  16. Are you referring the the Imperial Sugar development? http://www.chron.com/neighborhood/fortbend/news/article/Johnson-Development-proceeds-with-Imperial-Sugar-4729347.php
  17. I read a while back that TI was downsizing and moving their Stafford location to Sugar Land. Don't know if that's still true but if so that's a pretty big chunk of property they have in Stafford. I remember when the place first opened. They were out in the middle of no-where. Commercial property all around them now. Edit: This article seems to answer my own question: http://www.fortbendstar.com/2012/11/14/texas-instruments-move-to-sugar-land-is-a-big-disappointment-for-stafford/
  18. I had heard they were moving.. Any idea what's going to become of their old place in Stafford?
  19. Also has Slow Dough Bread which I love. I tried to go by the first day and there was not a parking spot to be had in the whole parking lot, and it's a big parking lot. Finally got by there a few days later and it was okay. Good wine selection but very poor beer selection. Like all Fiesta's it still has a lot of interesting international food selections. Business is brisk for now but don't know how long that will last. Will be mainly used by "Creekers". I don't think people are going to continue to drive a long distance to go there.
  20. Probably was. Definitely the right location.
  21. Thanks. Just could not recall the name. I remember it was pretty small and nothing great but it was convenient at the time.
  22. The building at Main and Richmond has long been torn down but wife and I were having a discussion recently about old theaters and remember going there in the 70's and 80's. Cannot recall the name of the place though.
