  1. When are we going to get fattest city again? That's the only one people care about.
  2. I've always loved the GRB, but then I have a thing for gaudy and garish. Oooh, shiny! Awsome pics!
  3. Ah, whatever! It's all Texas! Hu hu hu. I'ma go get me a beer and watch some footbawl!
  4. Don't you just love the bashing that comes with every single article printed about Houston?! I'm referring to the comments at the bottom.
  5. Don't feel bad. That's their impression of Texas in general, not just Houston. Most have probably never set foot in the state. Also take into account that they're a bunch of ignorant morons.
  6. "...in a couple of weeks" has been going on for over a year.
  7. This reminds me; while watching an Astros road game a couple of months ago, the camera zoomed in on some Astros fans in the crowd holding up a sign that just said, "Texas". I had the same reaction: yeah, so, what about it? What about "Astros" or "Houston Astros". What does the state of Texas have to do with it? I've never seen Cincinnati Reds fans in our stands holding up signs that simply said "Ohio". For being such a simple sign, it was one of the goofiest things I'd seen.
  8. My family always stayed at Landa/Schlitterbahn resort with several other families/friends. The yellow cabins where the tube chutes from the waterpark run in front of and dump into the river. Us (or is it "we"?) kids loved roaming around at night after the park closed. Of course we couldn't get into the main park, but we still played in some of the empty rides. You mean the big hot tub outside of Chuck E. Cheese? That felt dirty to me. Something about it. I think maybe because it had the umbrella tables in the water and there were always puddles of cool water on the table tops. Reminded me of cold saliva or something. Once there were some soggy playing cards floating around. Gave me the creeps. Down the street from the resort there was always a place selling funnel cakes. Sometimes we'd go there in the evening after the crowds in the area had died down. Yep, some of my favorite childhood memories.
  9. I grew up on the one in New Braunfels. Great memories! I loved that place back then. Haven't been inside the Galveston Schlitterbahn, but I doubt it has any advantage over the original. Of course it's still new.
  10. I've never been to Pittsburgh, but it doesn't look bad at all in those photos. So Pittsburgh and Philly have a rival going on? I'm not surprised to hear that.
  11. At the bottom of the website it says "copyright City of Houston's Mayor's office". There's no e-mail included, but I Googled Bill White and got his e-mail: mayor@cityofhouston.net I just sent an e-mail.
  12. Oldies appeal to a wide audience. They could have some popular bands from the '60s-'90s. People would eat it up. That in addition to whatever's popular at the moment as well as different genres of music. Sounds so much better than what they put on now. They constantly boast about how it's "the largest land based fireworks display in the country". That's not so impressive with the selection of music that goes along with it. I'm not sure I want the whole country to know. It's kind of embarrassing. They could and should do better with a city as big and diverse as this one. I was wondering the same thing. Who would we e-mail? This is the only website I could find: http://www.houstontx.gov/specialevents/cfot/index.html I'd love to send them an e-mail if we can find one. We all should.
  13. Today's country, in my opinion, is more like redneck music than anything. I like some of the pre-mid '90s country. Like all the glitzy, campy Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton type acts. That's fun. I just can't stomach most of the country nowadays. They should add the Houston Sympony to the lineup. Some pop, R&B, rock, jazz, yes even leave some country in there. Throw in a couple of oldies groups for fun. Something everyone can enjoy.
  14. How about an all nothing lineup. Some variety would be great. They could make an all day festival out of it. Is Lee Greenwood even country?
  15. Stinks! With a city as diverse as Houston, why is it always such a predominantly country music event? Aside from a marching band, why is country music the only music considered patriotic?
  16. Great Value, is that the Wal-Mart brand? Their cheese is way better than the name brand cheeses. Cheeses like Borden's and Kraft stink, literally. Makes me gag. A couple of years ago I was at my grandma's house and my cousin opened a box of dollar store cheese crackers that was sitting on the table and went on about how terrible they were. Of course everyone had to try them including me. My other cousin started reading the ingredients and burst into hysterics. I'm not joking, listed in the ingredients was "butt flavor". One of them called the number on the box and they told them that it was a misprint. I don't know about that. Maybe it was meant to say "butter flavor". Funny, nevertheless.
  17. What is it with '80s singing acts that like to clinch their fists in front of their chests? That's something I always do myself while emulating an '80s singer. Glen Medeiros does a lot of fist clinching in this video for "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You". I don't think it's from an '80s movie soundtrack, but it's from the '80s and one of my favorite love songs from the decade. http://youtube.com/watch?v=SuxZK8hwn8g It's hard to believe he was just 16 when he sang that.
  18. I was thinking the exact same thing. I actually clicked on here thinking that your post was mine, but then I realized I didn't post it.
  19. I click on the "view new posts" and read them. And of course since I commented in this one, I'll continue to read responses. Lone star, shcmone star. He he!
  20. Texas Shmexas. San Antonio, Santa Ana. Dallas, Delaware. No Houston, no care.
  21. I didn't even realize that it was headquartered in San Antonio. With that said, since it isn't moving to Houston, I couldn't care one way or another whether or not it stays in Texas.
  22. Oh, I love that song from "Karate Kid"! That's one of my favorite '80s movies, too.
  23. Early to rise, early to bed. And in between I cooked and cleaned and went outta my head. Alice
  24. Kevin Bacon always frightened me a bit when I was young. I think he kind of looks like a corpse. Needless to say he was perfect in "Hollow Man". My sister and I had the "Footloose" soundtrack when we were little, always blaring from her pink boom box outside in the summertime.
