  1. I've become a bit jaded about the whole thing since starting this topic months ago after seeing so many pictures, news segments, billboards, etc. I've even seen the ads on more mainstream, non-Houston websites. But I still don't intend on going. I do think it's a bit stomach turning for me. I noticed they have BodyWorlds brochures in the food court at Houston Center downtown. I accidentally got a glimpse of one before eating some Chick-Fil-A before the Astros game last Friday, though by the time I got my food, I had forgotten about it.
  2. I saw a commercial about "the world's largest indoor theme park" (or something like that) in the Astrodome. Got a bit excited until they said it would open in June, so I knew it couldn't be anything big or we would have heard about it long ago. Turns out it's a summer thing (June & July). Probably a bunch of rinky-dink, gypsy run carnival rides. However it got me thinking, do you think maybe they're testing the waters for something more grand and permanent?
  3. What's wrong wit' 'em!? I don't think Roger is going to save them. Yes, they were in this same boat this same time last year, but what are the chances of such a huge turnaround happening again? I wish I could say I think it'll happen, but I'm losing hope with every game. So frustrating and disappointing.
  4. I e-mailed GHCVB (I didn't know who else to contact on the spur of the moment aside from Bill White), asking when the groundbreaking would take place and they replied saying the last information they received had it sometime between August 1st and September 1st.
  5. Channel 2 did a segment on that very article last night during the news.
  6. Houston bashing screams jealousy. Someone has to have a real reason to hate so passionately. You don't pick a disabled person out of a crowd and then beat them down (except for a few flat out cruel people). It's kind of flattering actually and makes me even more proud to be from Houston! As for the Astros...
  7. Are the Astros nervous right now because of the whole Bonds thing, because it's been painful to watch them this week.
  8. Yep. It'll smell and look just like the outside of a Pet Smart.
  9. I'm really not crazy about the idea of a dog area. There'll be wiz all over the place and it'll smell like madness.
  10. Hey, we're fat Houston! That's all that's necessary.
  11. It looks really nice. Now is the hard part; we have to wait. I'm kind of glad there's no dog area. Think how that would smell on a hot, humid day.
  12. Was the final design released today? I saw something about it on channel 2, but didn't catch all of it.
  13. They could have won Friday, but then Lidge came in. I'd hate to be him right now.
  14. That's so interesting! Thanks for the link.
  15. Well, gang, you all know more about this stuff than I do, but from what I understand, it's sort of like counting on Roy Oswalt for homeruns. Fab player, but not for homers. But just maybe we'll all be pleasantly surprised come the new season and everyone will be saying, "Reggie who?". Maybe. I hope.
  16. That's what I was thinking. They provide a kind of old-fashioned charm. There's an episode of "The Twilight Zone" I was thinking of that had a prominent scene with a carousoul in a park. It turned out to be one of the more sentimental episodes. And then there's the great carousel wreck scene from "Strangers on a Train".
  17. I knew someone was going to say something about Feritta. Not a lot of Tilman love on this board, is there? There's nothing wrong or unusual about having a carousel in a park. I think it would be sweet. It can play instrumentals of old 1930s and '40s standards or something.
  18. Would a carousel be too much for the park? I like the idea myself.
