  1. Maybe they are right the Galleria is quite cluttered already. It would glimmer in the Hermann Park area or Near East End.
  2. How ironic, there actually is a big mixer this very evening for local Latin media. This is where you can raise the question or comment! Most media are used to this by the way.
  3. Yep, even at 7:30 in the am when I am going with family to Tel-Wink we have to stop at that very spot to turn onto Telephone and you glance at the corner store and see Happy Hooker's jump into cars (or out of) depending what shift they are working. It's the guys dressed as women that are a riot, so obvious. The men paying for this are well over middle aged. She works hard for her money, so hard for her money. Actually that whole intersection needs to be leveled. This includes the Citgo/Conoco gas station? That store across the street and that whole trailer park dump. Just flatten and leave as a field, anything. New (pricey) townhomes should go right here! Got that Developer's?
  4. Totally agree! Now try to imagine the room being any shape. Doesn't have to be square at all. The idea is to have your living room face the ocean one day then face the city skyline later. The levels could be oval, triangular etc. Just think scenes of some of the recent Star Wars skyline scenes (I do and worship the modern and futuristic designs of the city skylines). If having a cocktail party you could slowly rotate as the party goes on. I can gaurantee you that everyone on earth will want to check this out. The open minded one's that is. It would be very interesting to see how emergency plans would be arranged too. Houston needs to get on the ball with at least one like now.
  5. Excellente! No mention of year built though? This guy puffed 24 joints that day, wow must have had the munchies really bad. Just think, somewhere, someone has interior and or exterior photos of the early years of this place. I have many silent films that have fantastic scenes of interiors/exteriors of places that look just like this. Thats why I picture this from those days. Very cool. Thank you for the great research tmariar...you deserve an award.
  6. I had to snicker (discreetly here at work) its was instant... like a "clap" of lightening.
  7. Be sure to read todays Chron news or COMMENTS rather. Seems not just anyone could be there. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metrop...an/5857857.html All I can say is I am glad my family and I do not live near this project. Quote, unquote.
  8. This 3rd world dive, is directly across the street from the OLD Brookline Elementary school (still there). Area has been a most unpleasant and pathetic scene for decades. It was in the news about 2 years ago for a serious fire that killed some of the tenants because of (ironically) the mounds of filth & garbage they stored (like pack rats). The Six/Eleven store? across the at the corner is where the clerk was gunned down about 3 yrs ago (was in news). Prostitution is the order of the day and in broad daylight. So not only do you get a carwash across the street you get extra perks to put it plainly, on the way out. The males and females are very brazen about it, so open about it they set up lawn chairs for the next Juan (or John) that comes along (dont go there). It would be so cool to have some Haifer's do a sting operation take a camera, microphone interview these charming working people. Serious! In fact most of the prostitution old Telephone Road has been known for for decades is quite hot from about old Josephine Hotel (by Seller's Grocery area) to here and well beyond towards Hobby Airport. Thats quite a lot for the world's oldest profession. Is that too much info? Sorry its reality. "Crater Houston" section here's another dive coming up!
  9. Its a good idea. Build it. I'll drink to it! Anything can be 24 hrs. Back to topic would these room roll on giant ballbearings or what? Guess I should follow links to the architect guy talking in that vid clip. Wonder if sound of a giant room turning would bother your neighbors? Its a sensible question, not shy.
  10. Thats what I'm talking about y'all! Note gable ornamentation & finial, stained glass window, shingled siding and bracketed porch detail. See what some time, paint & TLC can produce! We worship!
  11. Or sing, I'm so dizzy my head is spinning...like a whirpool it never ends. or it could be from going to often the new 24 sports bar down the street.
  12. Agree 100% That area needs several taller new iconic buildings. We are the city of the future, let's do it! Side note: Bet this very same argument happened 60 plus years ago before The Empire State Bldg was built. March forward, if we dont another city will like they always seem to do. Change is the way to go. Someone search for a rendering or something close to.
  13. On a more serious note, these type of buildings will be made. It is just a matter of time. What seems outlandish or novelty now will become a reality. I am totally supportive, if and when I win the lotto I am having one made. Maybe not on a grand scale like these but rest assured it will be at least 9-10 levels high or at least enough to have a great view of our city. I am eager to see how the elevators (in center?) will be incorporated into the plans. Imagine what exact measuring and planning must go into the overhead light fixtures? If one centimeter off the whole fixture will fail and ?. Ok imagination is going (more Starbux) (missplelled X on Starbux on purpose). cant you just picture what the parking will be like? Revolving driveways...never have to reverse it.... Bet that is in the work's somewhere to.
  14. Correct, it has confused long time Houstonian's for decades just like (even worse) Breaswood area. One day you can be driving around the U of H / bayou area and wonder why everyone is honking at you going the wrong way. Now who would be crazy enough to do such a thing.
  15. Hurricane parties! Just have plenty of those airline barf bags handy for guests. Even better when you have guests visit that you really dont like, just press the fast button as you step out for a beer run. Make sure furniture is bolted down of course.
  16. The side view IMO is much nicer and evokes a bygone era of Houston's days when one could simply step out of a cab and step up directly into the "ungated" entrance. The once opened courtyard is something seldom seen any longer in our inner-city. Very reminsicent of the layouts of California/Spanish style Courtyard's. Complete with fountains and foliage. (Bet a period movie could be filmed here) Anybody know date built? I have not seen this place for a while either, but drive by and look upstairs (side view) and see arches and lawn chairs. It was meant for relaxation when coming home from a busy day. I am just dying of curiousity to see if original mantel's, chandeliers and mosaic tile work is still extant. Sometimes its a good thing when a landlord can't afford remodeling that way all interior/exterior is as original as can be. It's delightful.
  17. It was a porn adult shop for a few years, short lived. There was a very creepy lady that used to stand in front. Maybe that is what frightened potential buyers or getting busted by old Marv Zindler. We are straying...all this can go under Past Structures of EE topic. Ja!
  18. There is an existing topic about rotating buildings. I often wanted to know how the Hyatt Regency Spindle restuarant rotates? I mean what makes it spin. Just think at one time a person could see very far in the distance from here. Most is blocked by newer skyscrapers now.
  19. It would be very interesting to see stats on well the deodorant market $$$ does in Texas? I'm qute serious. Anyone know?
  20. That just killed me. lol Here is the very short and simple link. It's amazing it wasn't a much longer story? Maybe there will be updates? Yes, a person would almost have to be half stewed to the gills before getting in to this water. This sea water is really putting the F in Funky. http://www.khou.com/news/local/stories/kho...e198a4.html?npc
  21. Kind of embarrased to confess I actually sat through the whole film. Not sure what Bacon's reaction is NOW when interviewed as to why he accepted the role. Oh well, it kind of gave him a start after/before Diner and other notable films. I still hate him.
  22. It's amazing no one has brought that up! That has to be on be one of the most "positive" venues for young people in this immediate area we have seen for years! Sure would like to shake the hand of the folks that dreampt it up. It is kind of quirky but its the thought process that matters. Well I mean it is people shooting at each other but in a different mindset so to speak. These are the type of ideas we need for the young set. Does it ever get promoted in local papers? Should so they can get better participation. FYI, there once was a large beautiful turn of the century white house with a big wrap around porch on this lot. Seldom would see anyone around so that means there was an elderly person inside being cared for (I hope). The home and grounds were always kept up neatly. One day we saw it being raised and set to be relocated? It was sad to see it go and mystified us as to where it ended up? New East End mystery.... another PS... there once was a fantastic little Bakery directly across the street (still has the same canopy hanging overhead) that bakery vanished into Near East End folklore history around 1979. Was so very convenient to everyone. Out of this world cupcakes, various whipped cream and other delights.
  23. Environment related so here goes. Is in todays news: GALVESTON
  24. Thats the one I remembered when I got home and forgot to mention. Soundtrack to Ferris Bueller's day Off! Loaded with good stuff. Not to mention was a big box office draw at the time. PS, since Puma mentioned he was born in 79 he might as well see and buy the sountrack to TGIF or as it was better known Thank God It's Friday! This is not just a hilarious spoof of the Disco craze it features many now famous celebs. This flick captures the era precisely oops other topic. ja!
  25. Maybe your referring to the (former) Rosticeria Mexican Restaurant? The red brick arched one story building. Imagine will be a new eatery? It was pretty good back when it was new and soooo convenient to all of Near East End crowd. Prices were very low with good quality dining. About 8-10 years ago it closed? We knew the end was near when the prices skyrocketed and people couldnt afford. Maybe certain licenses were not renewed so they said close it. Actually the old dilapidated bldgs next to the Dog & Cat Clinic could be removed for a good entry into the new school. two entries are better than one to this facilty in emergencies, etc.
