  1. I'm not sure how the Bark Park can lose its lease when the land owners are the same people that own the Bark Park. WBM Investments and Houston Bark Park and Daycare, Inc have the same principals.
  2. Working for the same employer, I've had 5 different work locations in Houston in a little over 20 years. Are you saying I should move every time my work location changes? Sell the house we love in the neighborhood we want to be in, and move somewhere else? That's not going to happen. You are also not going to convince people to give up their houses with garages and some amount of yard to move into apartments. I am not a huge fan of the 45 project, but it is not realistic to think that everyone is going to move into Central Houston.
  3. State law prohibits taxing empty land as you propose. And, the City of Houston doesn't perform the tax appraisals. State law prohibits taxing empty land as you propose. 4. Renovations. It's supposed to be back in service in mid-June https://www.iceatthegalleria.com/
  5. For those who see the 2nd Amendment as an impediment to public safety, the only option is to repeal it. That's not going to happen. It's pretty clear that the right to keep and bear arms is a personal right, just like speech, religion, etc. Now, that doesn't mean that well crafted limits can't be imposed, like limiting the purchase of semi-automatic firearms to those over 21, but there will not be any widespread broad bans on firearms.
  6. We ate at Alma Latina across the street yesterday. That building looks like it's about to fall down. The roof on the back left portion is in terrible shape, and the interior structure that I could see looks like someone really drunk put it up. I am surprised the building didn't fall over when they removed the wall coverings.
  7. No, it was a couple of weeks ago. It will happen from time to time, since people don't pay attention when they drive. And it seems like some folks are just willfully ignoring the changes the road diet made.
  8. I doubt those guy lines can be removed. Given the cost, they wouldn't be there if they weren't needed to ensure the poles stay upright against the tension exerted from the power lines going to the right in the pictures. They may be required by regulations.
  9. Spending money on roads is "socialism" and leads straight to communism according to some folks. If you want good roads, you need to build them yourself and quit stealing from the productive members of society
  10. It will probably be a bunch of posts about how the incompetent Mayor has destroyed life in the Greater Heights and that it will make every commute 2 hours longer, along with a bunch of "screw the cyclists, they can use side streets" comments. Plus "cycling or walking in Houston is impossible because of the heat and humidity", etc. Someone destroyed the front end of their car by hitting the floating bus stop on Heights. After looking at it, it was obvious the driver had ignored a no right turn sign and driven straight into the raised concrete. I look forward to more stupidity.
  11. Which will cause Nextdoor to blow up once it's all completed and people realize it's a larger version of the 11th Street road diet.
  12. Here's a link with some info http://txrrhistory.com/towers/134/134.htm A wiki article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stella,_Harris_County,_Texas
  13. That's actually South of I-10, and South of Washington.
  14. If they let you sit there, then they have to let the homeless sit there, which paying tenants won't like.
  15. I don't really get the point of putting out a sign. It's not like some guy is going to be walking or driving by and suddenly think "800 Bell is for lease? Cool, I need 1 million+ square feet of space for my startup". People who really need that sort of building will be talking with commercial real estate firms, not looking for for lease signs.
  16. There would be a really good joke in that switch from billiards to dogs if the dogs were not pretty much all neutered.
  17. Allied Bank was the name tenant on 1000 Louisiana when it was built. In 1988, Allied was merged into First Interstate Bank. In 2000, First Interstate was merged into Wells Fargo https://www.usbanklocations.com/allied-bank-of-texas-20898.shtml 1000 Louisiana https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wells_Fargo_Plaza_(Houston)
  18. These elections would be to establish whether property should be treated in a different manner. Renters should not get to say whether their landlord's property should be subject to restrictions that have nothing to do with the renter. It's true you cannot be forced to join an HOA, but your logic would allow a renter to force their landlord to join, whether the landlord wants to or not.
  19. Why should non-property owners get a say in whether an area becomes a conservation district? Shouldn't that only be up to the property owners that are affected? It's the same logic that disallows renters voting to decide whether to form an HOA for an area - it's a property owners only thing.
  20. Nice postcard at this link https://texashistory.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metapth1231741/m1/1/ The reverse mentions that the hospital was a gift to the people of the Tri-Cities area from Humble Oil and Refining. At the time, Baytown had not been created, and the Tri-Cities were Pelly, Goose Creek and unincorporated Old Baytown. Fun fact, that was the first ER I ever went to after one of my cousins threw a handful of sand in my face while we were playing at our grandmother's house, where our Dad's had grown up. That house was in Pelly, and had to get a new address after the cities were combined.
  21. The tall buildings I've seen under construction here just use a floating foundation that weighs enough to keep the building upright.
  22. I saw an article on this building in Laguna Niguel, California and thought others might be interested. It was originally constructed for North American Aviation. The nickname is the Ziggurat. It's being auctioned as surplus by the General Services Administration. Gallery from Library of Congress https://www.loc.gov/resource/pplot.13819/?st=gallery Gallery from the GSA https://www.gsa.gov/node/147311/juicebox-config/ Best picture I could link to
  23. Will there be an HEB on the second floor?
