  1. I HAVE TO SAY that i somewhat share Houstonsemipro's frustration regarding this project. When i look at all the multiple projects that are taking place in Dallas, i conclude and feel that Houston's a little on the slow side. Dallas mentioned the Victory Development and wide plasma screens not even a year ago. They've already begun to move some dirt showing progress and signs that the projects are moving along. It's frustrating. Dallas appears to be the most booming city in the state right now. Why can't we at least start seeing some dirt flying or being moved for the Pavilions? I'm mad as hell!
  2. Oh i thought you were for real! It sounded alot like true sense , that's why i thought you were serious BTW: welcome back Montrose1100
  3. what i don't understand is why lighting the buildings with some style is even a concern with cost. They use the same white christmas light bulbs on almost every building at night (most notably the Exxon Mobil, Fulbright, Houston Centers, and Chase towers). Why is there no issue with cost when it comes to using that lighting scheme? Why can't they at least use the a different colors other than white lighting on the rooftops? Just like what they used during Superbowl 2004? Can't no one tell me that would cost anymore money than using the same boring white perimeter lighting around every building! All i'm saying is, it's frustrating to see Houston not live up to its full potential!
  4. OK SILENCE!!! That's enough. This thread should be used for updates for the existing Houston Pavilions Project. Not some bogus fantasy island type stuff. Yall are gonna make me CRAAZZY!!! Especially you C2H, you're the one who started all this off topic ____ goin'.
  5. nicely put there semipro, aside from the grammar errors! But i do share the frustration with semipro on the fact that Houston always seems to be a step behind the 8 ball when it comes to urban development and transportation. It's very frustrating to see cities like Dallas, Seattle, and hell even Denver outshine us when it comes to implementing new things. Why else did it take Houston so long to decide that they needed to start paying attention to downtown? Yeah, if this was a school, Houston would be in the slow class. And you Bachanon, i can't believe you'd actually use the Bayou Place as an exampe of Houston's progress. That place is as dead as a doornail, not to mention depressing. Where are these residents that place is supposed to be adding? No signs of any progress on that? Why can't we seem to get federal funding for more rail while Dallas keeps building more and more miles of rail? What's the deal Tom Delay? Do you hate Houston that much? I hope his indictment goes through.
  6. You can't be for real. Are you serious? You can't see my point and look back on how many projects in Houston have failed in the past? Major things like this rarely happen. No i'm not saying that the city should soley foot the bill but i've sort of lost a litle hope when it comes to things like this. First the project gets funds to get it started, then there's delays, then it ends up being stalled, then there's nothing. Look at Shamrock? I'm trying to be positive on this one to say this is showing better signs of becoming a reality and may be be a turnaround point for Houston in spite of it's past. It more than likely will to get rolling and thriving. But sometimes, i still can't help but be fearful that it won't go as smoothly as planned.
  7. i hope he's wrong but i think he's telling a truth about the way Houston has handled their business in the past. Things of this magnitude never get off the ground in Houston and Houston has not proven to be forward thinking enough in the last 10 years to make something like this a realty. Be that as it may, it said they were supposed to break ground this fall. Fall just started at the end of September so we got at least another 2 or 3 months left to see some progress (for it to be on schedule).
  8. that's a pretty astute comment but how would any of you people on this board compare the developments that are going on in Houston and the developments going on in Dallas. I see Dallas ain't waistin' no time with getting the Victory development off the ground. Does Houston have a major development project like this? No. Houston already has Downtown, TMC, UT, Westchase, and the Medical Centers going up in Midtown. Sorry to say this folks, but as forward-thinking as Dallas is, I'm scared that Dallas will continue to be the crown jewel of Texas.
  9. becuz the person who started this topic is a goofball maybe?
  10. PEOPLE! PEOPLE! It's clearly obvious. Plastic is just fu$king with your heads! This whole thread was a joke!
  11. ok Willy1, i'd say its about time to leave the blunt smokin' alone!!!
  12. Redscare, no disrespect but I don't agree with some of your small -minded view points on how you think downtown should be. I think downtown needs some hot, well-known gathering spots. While some might not think so, HOOTERS is not the worst idea. I think in order for downtown to become more of a place where residents and visitors actually want to come, it needs more than just Mom and Pop stores. People feel more comfortable shopping and eating at familiar places. I mean look at downtown New Orleans? It has some popular venues right inside of downtown on every block while the French Quarter has some more of the unique stores. With downtown Houston being the largest in the south, i feel downtown Houston could definitely step it up. Just look at how downtown and uptown Houston rival eachother? Why does everything new and hip go uptown? Why does uptown have a residential population of 40,000 as opposed to downtown's population of 3,000? I won't speak for anyone else but i get a better sense of action and see shops, hotels and restaurants that I am more familiar with in uptown. It's the reputable places people are attracted to at first, then they begin to explore the uniqueness portions of the city. That definitely helps with marketing the area as well. I don't want to see Houston continue down the same track its been because in my opinion, downtown is mainly a tourist draw for the homeless right now.
  13. I don't know about Downtown, i'm beginning to lose all hope for downtown by its slow progress. In the past few months, i've visited New York, Chicago, (NO COMPARISON), Milwaukee, and Denver. I last visited Denver 9 years ago right before they built the Pavilions but even downtown Denver is doing better than Houston's right now. I was there a month ago. It's prettier, cleaner, and way more vibrant. I think that's a shame that as big as Houston is, we don't really have that many amentities in its city center. I don't understand why HOUSTON has such a problem getting projects off the ground or why HOUSTON can't seem to afford things and get funding for things or why we can't just do the "build and they will come" method. For years Central Houston has been trying to bring life back downtown and more residences living in and around Downtown. I wouldn't want to live there. It's dark. has crumby lighting (exept Main St), and just not enough to do. And everything that there is to do is so spread out, it makes a person wonder exactly what downtown has to offer. I would love for downtown to continue to take off but if Houston continues to be afraid of taking risks, it will sadly remain stagnant and even our friendly neighbor to the north will continue to get all the hype and recognition. (Sorry for the rant- i just get frustrated sometimes)
  14. I was riding a friend around who's from Philly the other day. He came down to visit me. I showed him all different parts of Houston but i didn't get a chance to show him how live Main St. can get on weekend nights. I drove him thru downtown, uptown, greenway and the Woodlands to Clear Lake areas. He said that he liked Houston overall but he said, "Your guy's downtown is a little broke down." He stated that Uptown Houston should be considered the downtown because downtown seems like it's in the shadow of Uptown. I tried pumping up my city by saying, "Wait until Friday and Saturday nights and see Main St." But even Main St's vibrancy and energy is inconsistant and isn't always what i consider to be a happening place. Does anyone else agree with his reference to downtown as "broke down"? If he had seen it 5 or 6 years ago he would've been in tears. But right now, i'm not really seeing our downtown as a place that's booming right now. It seems that there's so many stalled projects and no new things seem to be happening that makes me feel that downtown is a little stagnant.
  15. It sounds like every comment you make regarding Houston seems as if you got some type of personal bias against Houston. What's your problem Chief?
  16. Back to the topic: alot of Houston's lights in the downtown/midtown/ and 3rd Ward areas do need to be upgraded. Alot of them are out of date and some are even real dim which makes it harder for the driver to see during the day. There are several intersections that have lights are burned out only leaving one of the lights working. I think the City of Houston should look more to these outages because I believe they somewhat can contribute to Red Light accidents
  17. No sir! Not bragging. I don't see the point of bragging to a bunch of people on a forum board where none of us know eachother anyway. Just using that as somewhat comparitive analysis to show the severity of the crime and how even that can go off the record after time. But if you wanna flame me, go right ahead. Just don't say something too harsh cuz i might have jump back to my old ways and say something nasty to you that would get me banned from here myself. But lately, I've been trying to change my ways and be a little more civil by the request of several PMs i've received.
  18. TAKE IT from a guy who's been in more trouble with the law from DUI to drug posession to driving with no insurance. Like someone stated, it really depends on the employer, alot of employers look at 3-5 years but the more stringent ones sometimes look at 7 years.
