  1. Seriously dude you can't be serious by saying that Houston isn't at least comparible to Dallas. I have many friends/relatives from upstate New York all the way down to Manhattan and they see Houston as a fine place to live. Some are even talking about coming down to live. If that's the case, why did PDiddy who's from New York come down to Houston to have a huge celebrity party a few weeks ago and not Dallas? I would have to say right there that's more than just people from Houston thinking this city compares to those places. And if your talking skylines, i would definitely say it does.
  2. That's a bit much saying that the entire way from The Woodlands to Clearlake is an ugly stretch. I don't see how Dallas is any better. The best part of Dallas is the North Central Expwy north of downtown but everything else seems old and country graze land. How many COW PASTURES ARE there in Dallas? at least in Houston most of them are outside the city limits. i'll take an even lighter route and say that yes both cities have unique attributes and they both have their own nice areas and bad areas and one is no uglier than the other!
  3. I hate to be the one to burst everyone's bubble but i figure most of you can't stand me anyway because i tend to speak the truth. So what the hell I called the 818 number on the website and had an intresting little talk with the lady who answered the phone. She acted like she didn't really like her job that much because she tried various times to rush me off the phone. I asked her to tell me a few details about the planned Houston Pavilions project. She didn't have anything to tell me. The only thing she said was, " The project hasn't been pubically announced yet, so there's really nothing to tell. I asked her, "Well there's a website, how is that not publicity?" She said that she knew of the website but there was no public announcement. So i asked her if the project was even going to happen. She said yes the project is going to happen but it hasn't been announced. So then she rushes me off the phone and i'm forced to hang up. That's all i could get out the lady. Perhaps i got some lady who's so caught up in her own personal life that she didn't really want to go the extra mile and tell anything of the project. Be that as it may, if i depended on her entirely, i would say that this project doesn't sound too promising.
  4. maybe one day i might be nominated to be a mod. LOL
  5. wait yall' don't get paid? Dang some of you guys have too much time on your hands. I know i don't have time like that . But anyway, congratulations.
  6. Hey KID, i just wanted to say i agree with you on that matter. Uptown does have a better VIBE to me than downtown, although i am excited at downtown's potential and hope it becomes the true city center with everything to offer. I remember getting in to it with this JOKE of a poster by the name of Professional Hornblower over this matter in one thread, who decided to criticize my perception rather than considering all factors.
  7. all i gotta say is if you're gonna try to insult someone, at least spell their name right. tierwash? no buddy, So much for being an OBSERVER, your name should be casual BLINDIE!
  8. DebMartin, The above post was a free lesson on me
  9. To C2H, westender, and rico, i really don't think that anyone needs to come down on me because i made a true statement. I really don't mean to sound like an a$$ but i tend to speak the truth and sometimes people don't want to hear it. I was not trying to attack greystone but let's face it, he's just some schmo goin' to college. He's said some things to me in PMs that i didn't really care to hear. He referred to me as obnoxious and called me a a thug on one thread. But who the hell is he? Trust me, i don't hate the guy, but i don't really care if he's gone either. And DebMartin, i don't mean this as an attack, but learn how to quote people!
  10. you're right about one thing, he wasn't even all that much of a poster. So why are we having this discussion? Sorry c2h but this thread is below POINTLESS!
  11. Man! Dallas can only come up with one thing to poke fun at Houston and that's Houston's geographical situation. That's sad! No where in the article could they say that they have done nearly as much as what Houston has ( with the additon of 3 new stadiums in a period of four years, expanded hotel/ convention space) Hell, they can't even say they've maintained themselves as the second largest city in Texas! What's funny is everything great about "Dallas" is in the suburbs. I don't even know how Dallas can even fix their lips to talk about Houston's sprawl when Dallas is known to sprawl to no end themselves!!! lame Sorry Dallas, i luv ya but u started it.
  12. extending commuter rail lines between greenspoint and dt will definitely be a start in the right direction.
  13. I guess i blame myself for this thread becoming the DALLAS VS HOUSTON thing because i did ask the question which sparked it all as to why Dallas gets the Ritz Carlton. But i did say that i wasn't trying to sound like i was hatin' (or JEALOUS for all you old fogies!!!) Sorry to HAIF and Dallas members on this site! I'm such a fuc%%in' idiot!
  14. now i'm not tryin' to throw salt but why does Dallas get the Ritz Carlton?
  15. Is Astroworld outdated? Hell YES!!! Astroworld definitely needs some updating. Hell- maybe revamping alltogether. I'm really banking on that with the new Schlitterbahn opening in Galveston. One thing Houston is is afraid to try new things. And riding in some parts of the city, one can easily decipher that. I hope Houston starts to realize that times do change and doing the same thing doesn't fit for times today. Astroworld definitely needs to replace some of those rusted out looking roller coasters and slides. DJ Lawrence and KimberlySayWhat, i totally agree. DJ hit it on the head talking about Houstonians should not be portrayed as being metiocre. Good catch!!! That's why its time to start fixing up things like Astroworld in and around our city.
  16. I sure hope not but Houston does allow many of the projects to go up in flames. I personally don't think the SB will have a major impact but i am concerned about the low occupancy rate in Hotels downtown. It's probably because many of them aside from the Hilton Americas look like rotten ____. People do judge a book by its cover, no matter how nice they are on the inside.
  17. Houston was founded in 1836 and Dallas was founded in 1841. This is only a five year difference and i don't think that should be factored in to how the cities look today. I think that because Houston is larger and more spread out, Dallas may have a little less to work with to give the overall impression of being a newer city. It's quite deceiving though because Houston being larger, there are definitely more nice neighborhoods and probably more poorer neighborhoods. It's really hard to tell.
  18. good luck in your move back! sorry to see you go. just curious kzseattle, i was just surfing the net and happened to stumble across this site. Were you the author of this site? He called him self qzseattle and was moving down to Houston approximately the same time you did. See post on 09/20/04 9:22 pm http://www.fodors.com/forums/threadselect....=1&tid=34529867
  19. Thanks for the info TomV. i'll be there! I was thinking since i'm not working that day, you guys might be able to share all of your votes here and i can bring them to the attention of the commitee because i will be attending the meeting now that i know about it.
  20. i actually agree with you and have thought the same thing about there being too many high mass lighting on the freeways, but you can barely even see our downtown skyline at night anyway.
  21. well that's why we're all different. i have my opinion and you got yours. I think most of the buildings in uptown history resemble modern, sleek architecture, that has a glassy look. Although many of the buildings downtown do have wonderful architecture, some of downtown's buildings look outdated, rusty, and boxy. If none of you agree with me. So be it! But i'm not going to change the way i feel about it.
