Could this possibly mean the end of the dreaded Greyhound Bus Station? Or do the new owners need to keep it there?

Montrose Boulevard Improvements
bookey23 replied to HoustonMidtown's topic in Traffic and Transportation
This is definitely a welcome change for us bikers. Once they finish this, the next item should be fixing the bikeability on Studewood/Studemont underneath i10 and between i10 and Memorial. If you're trying to bike to Montrose, that stretch is equally treacherous. -
Montrose Boulevard Improvements

Did anyone attend this meeting? Was there any notable information that wasn't covered in the slides? -
Wow, I hope someone can let us know in the next few days if those get installed near the Toyota Center!

Since when does this venue have a 400 square foot patio? Do they just mean tables running alongside the building or have they built out a more formal patio area on the side? I haven't walked by this location in several months.

Spring Street Beer & Wine Garden At 1920 Houston Ave.
bookey23 replied to CrockpotandGravel's topic in The Heights
Just rode by this on my bike today and it looks like they're building a traffic island in the middle of Houston Avenue. Does anyone know if they will be building more islands along Houston Ave, or is this just meant to protect pedestrians along the bike trail? -
Every major event in the city is good for the city. Sporting events are a great way to bring a lot of new people into the city, who otherwise would never have a reason to come here. We can disagree about how important the World Cup will be, but I think the Harris County Sports Authority has done a fantastic job of getting the city marquee sporting events. Over 1 decade we will host the Super Bowl (2017), the NCAA Final Four (2023), the NCAA CFB Championship (2025) and the World Cup (2026)

Does this mean that Crave Hookah Lounge lasted a little over a month? Or is the owner just selling the property, with the tenant remaining?

I think they also realize that possibly hundreds of thousands of visitors will be visiting Houston for major events in the next few years (most notably the World Cup) and they need to get a jump start on making things nice, since it'll be the biggest advertisement for the city of Houston in decades.

Does anyone know what exactly is being implemented on White Oak? I thought this project was only going to affect 11th and Michaux, but I was thrilled to see these traffic barrels when driving down White Oak today!

My favorite announcements from that video were the Congress Street Bridge improvements and the Texas Street improvements. With the Astros being so good, that entire portion of Downtown should just contain as much orange decoration as possible to give it a sense of place. If we can't yet get a true ballpark district from Crane, the city should start taking matters into their own hands to give that area an identity.

Goal Park: New Park On The Columbia Tap Trail
bookey23 replied to pablog's topic in EaDo, the East End, and East Houston
This is awesome news. I presume that the park will stretch from Emancipation to where the trail bends to cross McKinney. That's already a pleasant stretch, but this will make it fantastic! I hope the World Cup brings even more great new development like this, just like the last two Super Bowls did. -
Dang, I thought they were going to start building something across the street from El Tiempo. Anyone know what's going on with that lot? They tore down a structure well over a year ago, but nothing has come of it.

Not sure if this is part of the master plan or just a fun Christmas installation, but there are now a ton of gold awnings and structures lining the Bagby bike lane.

Best of luck to these people, but the first floor of that building flooded like crazy during Harvey.

What a disgrace! That tree was sure to outlive all of us, and certainly whatever lame restaurant they put into that location. Just awful

I was saying to my wife the other day that we should buy up this land and build more retail on it. Looks like someone beat me to the punch (even tho I have neither the money nor the drive to actually do this).

It seems like everything in that building besides Velvet Taco has a tough time staying in business. Not sure why, but maybe it has something to do with the way parking is laid out or the Smoothie King next door. Either way, maybe they love the area but felt that that specific building wasn't right. Just a guess.

Interesting. Does anyone have a guess at where this project could land?

What do we think this will be? I couldn't find any listing for "Riverby Road". Is this a road that will be built in the future??

Pedestrian Crossings on Studewood St.
bookey23 replied to bookey23's topic in Traffic and Transportation
Within a few blocks of there, yes. -
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but could anyone help me figure out who I need to talk to regarding the poor or total lack of pedestrian crossings on Studewood? It never used to bother me too much, until I had a baby. Now I try to cross a busy 3-lane street with my stroller and it feels like cars speed up when they see me. I know there are a few pedestrian islands, but they are not close to the intersections where I live. I would love to speak with someone regarding adding "Yield to Pedestrian" signs on my closest crosswalk and add some additional paint and yield signs to crosswalks up and down the road.
