  1. windows and doors and columns oh my!if you treasure old houses and need period materials like baseboard, trim, doors, windows, sinks, tubs, shutters, fireplace mantels, columns, etc., this is a good… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
  2. nmainguy was a great encouragement to me during some difficult days back in late '06 early '07. i reviewed our conversation after seeing this thread and it made me a little weepy. he really helped me out. thanks nmainguy. i'm sorry i didn't get to say thanks in person.
  3. i have a meetup scheduled at noon, october 17th, for this event. cool! http://www.meetup.com/Historic-Houston-Meetup-Group/calendar/14980660/
  4. yes!.........and the connection to the spring creek greenway project is an added bonus. http://www.springcreekgreenway.org/Spring%20Creek%20Greenway%20Gateway%20Parks%20Map%20-%20March%202009.pdf the nature preserve at springwoods is connected to a 12000 acre preservation/recreation greenbelt between tomball and kingwood.
  5. there IS quite a bit of land immediately north of the development, between the river and the main road into springwoods, east of the holzworth extension and west of i-45. looking at a google map of the woodlands, would the holzworth extension connect with budde road or sawmill, i wonder?
  6. it would stand to reason that coventry would be necessary to get the infrastructure in place before xom. xom's promise to move to the development could conceivably be a factor in the development getting off the ground.
  7. curious as to why one side is completely windowless. it's an attractive building and then.....nothing on that side.

  9. .........little bird has been busy lately. the woodlands continues to attract big name retailers. big spenders who are "not from around these parts" must be spending freely. following tiffany & co, market street is rumored to be getting a "bb" and the woodlands mall may yet land a "nm". it's hard to believe there are still houses for sale under $130K in walking distance. oh, and the luxury senior living facility facade..........brick. boooooooo!
  10. .......a little bird told me that a staging area for construction is built with a large crane in place at the proposed exxon location. could this be something other than what we think?
  11. culturemap update culturemap saying the groundbreaking starts in august (article dated sept 29th, 2010). not sure if they mean next year or should have broken ground by now.
  12. ricco just created the first concept for a show..........."CONSTRUCTION PORN". i'd certainly watch "ETHEREAL ENGINEERING"..............the engineering behind the designs of architects like calatrava, piano, gaudi and gehry (maybe not gaudi).
  13. those pictures hurt to look at. beautifully executed discovery green with a tan and beige symbol of banality overshadowing. we need the artist who did the building caricature for "stop the ashby highrise" posters to do a drawing for haif expressing our dismay over the ES finished product; the mean ugly building encroaching over our well designed park.
  14. i can find likable things about the worst manager. i might see an area of personal immaturity, but overlook it because they are knowledgeable in other areas, areas i need to learn. i'm usually called out by coworkers for "making excuses" or "defending management", when i usually understand the goal management wants to achieve and realize there are obstacles not everyone may be privy to in response to your first paragraph, it's unusual to find people looking for opportunities to grow and mature. when you connect with people such as this, it can be very rewarding.
  15. brookfield purchasing the property means: they got a good deal? they acquire more parking and space for future development? will they now ask more for the office space in "Total Plaza" with a better view? wasn't the property ready for redevelopment? anyone reading between the lines and want to share?
  16. i had the pleasure today of shopping 'til i nearly dropped with a really good friend. after ten hours or so of antique, salvage, patio, galleria stores, we needed to refuel.pappasito's is always… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
  17. anyone have a warehouse on navigation? numbers should move east/south east from downtown.
  18. i danced with (next to) andy bell on the stage at numbers one night. no concert, he wasn't with anyone. he was just dancing, little girl's barrettes in his hair, butterflies, bows......he said he loved dancing or something like that. we didn't realize who it was until later. erasure wasn't well known back then.
  19. awesome!! thanks kylejack. need to retract my statement that the quesadilla didn't sound that great. after seeing the episode again, i have to try it!
  20. straight to the head of the class!i have passed this business many times but never given it a second thought. my mind usually drifts further down shepherd to boulevard bistro or wishes i had… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com
  21. this may signal the end of an era...................how significant is numbers? let's reminisce....who has played the numbers' stage? siouxsie & the banshees, REM, grace jones, the village people, stray cats, english beat, grand master flash, the waitresses, katrina and the waves, bow wow wow, the pointer sisters, wall of voodoo, the call, madness, marianne faithful, romeo void, the fixx, thompson twins, book of love, the cure, the cult, the divinyls, skinny puppy, ministry, the judy's, general public, clann of xymox, revco, love and rockets, jane's addiction, thomas dolby, big pig, jesus and mary chain, the church, mighty lemon drops, erasure, tackhead, sugarcubes, suicidal tendencies, the bangles, skatenigs, edie brickell and the new bohemians, red flag, thrill kill kult, front 242, the replacements, the pogues, split second, the pixies, the hunger, public image limited, nine inch nails, soundgarden, flesh for lulu, kmfdm, violent femmes, meat beat manifesto, die warzau, front line assembly, loop guru, consolidated, severed heads...just a few from 1980-1990. will be sad to see it go....maybe they will upgrade the property; bring it up to code.
  22. cool fall night. classical music. picnic. park environment. miller outdoor theater is the perfect inner city getaway. on a recent weekend evening, a friend and i enjoyed mercury baroque at… Click here to view the full review at Yelp.com

interesting ideas. thinking along the lines of niche's comment: featured project.....a picture of a new house, renovation or restoration with personal, local story about bringing the project to completion, including reviews and contact information of all architects, contractors,etc..involved. if there are enough people currently on haif that would actively utilize a site like niche describes (users who want to show their projects and make public their satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the companies they hired), you might be ahead of the game, user-wise. note: angie's list is out there, but not industry specific and charges a subscription fee. thought: it is unfortunate that there seem to be more "fans" of architecture but less people willing to pay for an architect. architectural tourism is not very well presented in houston as it is in other cities. when people are visiting or new to cities, especially in the age of google, people want to know about the buildings they are seeing or if there are significant structures near where they are staying. it cracks me up when i hear of people coming to houston for the first time and they go shopping....not all tourists care about the galleria, especially the educated or international tourists (just my opinion. i have no data to back that up and i'm aware of the large amount of international money dropped at the galleria). anecdotal evidence: cirque du soliel employees traveling with alegria were very keen on info about architecture in houston, my memory was not sufficient for their curiosity. do we know how much international traffic houston architecture and/or haif receives?
  24. any opinions on "the molly ringwalds"?
