  1. GO CHLOE!!!! this show has been a guilty pleasure of mine this season, especially since there is a houstonian who is so talented.
  2. similar thread similar thread number 2 i think that these threads are about the same project. this runs right through the newest section of the woodlands, creekside.
  3. no, the city couldn't have done anything different. people who drive an hour to see a ball game have to drive an hour home. on week nights especially, no one wants to linger in town when they have work and school the next day. IMHO the ballpark is a success because i want to go back every time i'm there. if it happens to be on a weekend i will plan my trip around dinner before or after the game; however, half the fun of being in the ballpark is the junk food you eat while you are there. the ballpark is a great amenity to visitors and people living in town in a different way than it is for people who commute to a game. it may have been sold as an economic boost to surrounding areas but it is what it is. i love it regardless, BTW.
  4. the lot has been cleared for the taco milagro location at six pines and lake robbins. i hate seeing those pine trees gone, but i'm looking forward to the new restaurant and increased pedestrian activity.
  5. Taco Milagro, Steak 'n' Shake hunger for The Woodlands Allison Wollam Houston Business Journal Restaurants chains Taco Milagro and Steak 'n' Shake are planning to expand into The Woodlands. full story
  6. that's the first i've heard of steve and barry's. there are announcements pending for the retail at 21 waterway avenue and 25 waterway avenue. there is also space still available at market street. town center is bordered by woodlands parkway on the south, lake front circle on the north (i think), i-45 on the east and grogan's mill on the west. market street, the waterway, the marriott & convention center, the mall, pinecroft center are all within the confines of "town center". town center map
  7. the woodlands mall is quite successful. there are new stores on the horizon and others expanding. so far, much of the new businesses i've read about that are going in near or on the waterway will be entertainment oriented (restaurants, bars, etc.) and will not compete directly with stores in the mall or at market street. it will be interesting to see if the mall parking lots on the waterway side become more high-density, mixed use developments (like the new lifestyle mall extension). there is now an empty mervyn's on this side as well as a mall entrance that was originally intended for another anchor store.
  8. Construction Underway on Three New Buildings in Town Center Three new buildings totaling 36,123 square feet are under construction in The Woodlands Town Center near The Woodlands Waterway
  9. i've always admired the panels/tiles on this side of the building. (currently, i could use 1000 square feet of tile. ) i do prefer adaptive reuse rather than demolition; however, this building has been empty for quite some time. the property is in a great location. hopefully something will happen soon, one way or the other.
  10. there was extensive information on the recently completed upgrades to IAH at one of the architectural/engineering/planning firms. i think it was PGAL. yes, here's the link. PGAL choose "architecture" and then "aviation". there is information in two or more of the aviation menus. it appears that pgal's involvement is part of a $450,000,000 airport renovation/upgrade project.
  11. In a condo conversion, are the current residents given first choice on ownership? Anyone familiar with condo conversions?
  12. MLK MEMORIAL Broken Obelisk battle-born Sculpture once rejected by City Hall is getting restored and rededicated By LISA GRAY Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle On Thursday a crane lowered Broken Obelisk, one of the city's best-known sculptures, back into its reflecting pool in front of the Rothko Chapel, and tomorrow or Wednesday, conservators expect to finish their 18-month restoration project. But today, on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, the rusty, elegant sculpture once again stands as a reminder that much of Houston once considered King to be more a rabble-rouser than a saint. link
  13. the point is..........WE'RE GETTING ANOTHER PARK DOWNTOWN!!!! who'd have thought 5 years ago that a park this size, with so much interest would be on the drawing boards with financing, etc.? the property fits perfectly in front of the GRB and the hilton, and has space on it's perimeter for new development. the brainstorming/creative input from the community is phenomenal. even if the park were one huge green space with a reflecting pool in the middle of it and a parking lot under it, it would still be better than surface parking. although the current plan may be ambitious, many of the ideas will be refined (some might say watered down) due to financing, interest, space, construction issues, etc. i'm just excited were getting another park.
  14. i've admired many of the homes in your neighborhood for a number of years. contact: greater houston preservation alliance at www.ghpa.org houston heights association at www.houstonheights.org/citypreservation.htm any other historical neighborhood association might have information you could use. i've often wondered if an older neighborhood could establish a homeowner's association in order to preserve structures or the historic "look" of it's surrounding areas. keep us posted on what you learn. good luck. oh, and welcome to the forum. moderators, these last two posts might enjoy greater discussion in a new thread. do you have the "power"?
  15. i agree with the concept of incentives for street level retail; however, without a larger downtown population (office, entertainment and residential) the viability of more retail will not emerge. the idea to have retail(such as gap, bookstores, etc.) with entrances and visibility from both the tunnel and street levels, along with public street level entrances to the tunnel system would increase traffic on both levels. it will be exciting to see what comes about in the next 5-10 years.
