  1. i think katiedidit compares apples with oranges. i too prefer uptown/in the loop for a certain kind of dining. i don't expect the woodlands to have mark's or americas or backstreet cafe, etc. last thursday, we had reservations at 6:30pm for six people at tommy bahamas. the service and food was excellent, we waited no more than 15 minutes and stayed for over an hour in the park visiting. it was relaxing and uber enjoyable.
  2. it's more than just shopping, midtown coog. you have dinner, linger, throw a frisbee, catch a movie, get some coffee. kids are hysterical in the water jets. you run into neighbors, coworkers and that nice lady from the express lane at HEB. also, it's quiet in the middle of market street (except for the sound of people, music and the occasional car alarm). what i mean by quiet is NO freeway noise. it's almost eerie. come visit.
  3. "Living Statue" at Market Street An entertainer at Market Street Water Jets at night Seating area at Cold Stone Creamery & Jamba Juice
  4. now can we have a monorail? a monorail going right in between reliant stadium and the astrodome with stops there, at the other reliant area locations, then six flags/astroworld, parking, and back around to the stadium/hotel complex. it could tie it all together nicely, especially if one stop was near the light rail line.
  5. "town center" is the area i described above. like grogan's mill and research forest, the woodlands' town center is a specific development area. market street is within the "town center" improvement district (TCID).
  6. "town center" encompasses the mall, market street, the riverway, etc. its borders are i-45 on the east, lake woodlands on the west, woodlands parkway on the south and (i think) lake front circle on the north. also, the population of the woodlands is closer to 90% white (unfortunate imho, but a better percentage than formerly mentioned). next time you visit the woodlands, start out at the homefinder center. it is right off of woodlands parkway, westbound, before you get to grogan's mill. they have huge models of the development and town center and free maps.
  7. star pizza is great....sometimes. ditto on the california pizza for gourmet pizzas. love that thai chicken.
  8. i have never had an item i enjoyed at a thai restaurant. i've eaten at thai pepper/alabama, nit noi/rice village and nit noi/1960 west. i've had pad thai, noodles, shrimp, spring rolls. it never seems to have a certain something. is there something i'm missing about the thai experience. i really can't find anything fascinating about the food. any suggestions thai food lovers?
  9. me too. fisher elementary PISD, 1972. moved to conroe after that.
  10. there is a construction fence around the property and a for sale sign describing the acreage only.
  11. as much as i'm proud of the woodlands "highlander" and now "cavalier" heritage...i wish we had still smaller schools. it is too easy to fall through the cracks with 2400 students.
  12. the principal, who guided our tour, did say that starbucks may be available to the students at some point (but not from the water fountains). chick fil a and quiznos will also be available.
  13. we toured college park high school this last week. it's amazing what they can do with 54 million dollars and 350,000 square feet. the theatre/arts departments and science labs are better than some university facilities. state of the art. there are also security cameras throughout the hallways and stairwells, and the teachers' id badges will be also security cards that give time and date records of every locked exterior door they enter or exit. there are noise reduction panels throughout all of the major public areas. it is very well thought out. we're very excited to have it in our community.
  14. Genetic research for several applications. One treatment I heard they were working on several years back was a patch that allowed the body to absorb genetic material.
  15. THE WOODLANDS - Lexicon Genetics Inc., of The Woodlands, has entered into a partnership with Texas A&M University that will produce 1,700 new jobs in The Woodlands over the next decade. Gov. Rick Perry announced the agreement, which will create the nonprofit Texas Institute for Genomic Medicine, during a press conference Saturday in Houston. Perry also announced that the Texas Enterprise Fund, which is a $295 million fund that was set aside by the Legislature last year to help attract businesses and jobs to Texas, would provide a $50 million grant for the project. The partnership contract calls for the creation of 5,000 new jobs in Texas, including 1,700 in The Woodlands, over the next 10 years. Link to rest of story.
  16. i hear chirping at night in the woodlands as well. it makes me think that sun is about to come up and it turns out to be 3AM, then the dog wants to go out. darn forest creatures. actually, my first thought was an AC fan motor. a guy i work with says that some frogs chirp.
  17. a recent article in "w" (i think) showed that people who shop at places like neiman marcus are just as likely to shop at walmart too. there will be more mixes like the target at memorial city mall in the future.
  18. the saks renovation was just recently announced. i mean, it can take months for plans to be submitted and financing to be secured. it seems as if some people would like for sabrina the teenage witch to twinkle her nose and make it so, immediately after it is announced. these things take months, some times years. be patient and enjoy the fruits when they occur. in the mean time, support the businesses (downtown/midtown) that are already in existence so that they can survive until the next wave of development. and, about the inward development of houston pavilions......loading docks can be hidden by walls and landscaping. i hope that the designers and developers of the pavilions will consider these options.
  19. there are tours of the new campus throughout july. college park website: http://info.conroeisd.net/senior/collegepark/
