  1. Not wasting any time! Also, on a side note, I know we shouldn't give attention to the vandal, but every time I see the word "Rowdy" I think of Scooby-Doo attempting to say "howdy".
  2. From the Chronicle, looks like it will be opening next Tuesday (6/25)? (A specific date wasn't given) https://www.chron.com/entertainment/restaurants-bars/article/Shake-Shack-sets-opening-date-for-downtown-Houston-14020094.php?utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_medium=referral#photo-17714387
  3. Well, if this 1st phase goes well, my next guess is that they will want to incorporate multi-family units around the property.
  4. So it looks like this will be filling in the Western portion of the property bordering Shepherd Drive, replacing The Center for Hearing and Speech. Excellent location, it will have a great presence if you are driving south over the Bayou.
  5. Not sure, I drive by the place every now and then and haven't noticed any changes. Wasn't this supposed to have opened last November? Must have run into some issues.
  6. Both articles are by the same author, Dug Begley. Safe to say he's not a fan of the project.
  7. I don't have access to the article. Who do they define as the "big opposition"? Perhaps the people whose housing will be displaced?
  8. Coolio, I always drive by the site and was waiting to hear an update since the banners still show a 2019 groundbreaking. Man, this project could be massive if all phases are built out! So it looks like we are still going to get 3 towers in Phase I according to the packet.
  9. That didn't take long at all. Crazy how much development is and will be going up along the boulevard.
  10. Any word on when the renovation at Jones Plaza will begin?
  11. I hate to be that guy, but does a thread exist for what is going up on that plot of land in the first picture across from the water works?
  12. Since my last rant I posted I’ve visisted Downtown 2-3 times again. Each time I’ve visited my experience has improved significantly. When my family visited from NY, I took them downtown to explore and eat. We walked along Main Street, through GreenStreet, and around Discovery Green and the Ballpark neighborhood. Overall my family (myself included) was pleasantly surprised, even impressed with the amenities downtown. They loved the parks, thought the food was excellent (we stopped by Finn Hall the first time we went downtown and ate at Xochi the second visit), and had a fun time at the Astros game. Probably the most surprising comment I heard from them was when they said “the streets are so clean down here”. Again, subjective experience on their part, but they frequently visit NYC, Boston, and DC, so for them to make a point of praising downtown’s cleanliness caught me off guard. We did see an occasional panhandler/homeless person every now and then, but on the nights we visited we really did not notice/encounter nearly as many as I had the previous time I was downtown. It could have been the fact we visited on weeknights, but either way it only improved the overall experience. And both nights we visited there was decent pedestrian activity. Downtown definitely had energy and an atmosphere was great.
  13. Great to hear this is still happening! I was worried because I hadn't heard much from this project the past couple months.
  14. So 2 more towers for phase II...that makes 3 total including the Drewery. Does that leave 2 more towers for a future phase since the topic for this thread indicates 5 total?
  15. Very true, and if anything the Heights remains a hotspot in terms of desirable neighborhoods in Houston. Adding housing in this area especially will be huge. Yeah, it sucks that they couldn't have tried to have a historical aesthetic that would've gelled better with the area. That being said, generic as the design is, it really isn't anything awful. Like Lumi said earlier, at least it isn't a Houston Heights Tower 2.0. It's nothing offensive or ugly.
  16. Holy moly, huge development given the location. I'm just not sure how I feel about a midrise development going up along 19th street, wonder if it will clash with the feel of the neighborhood. It's still a beautiful building.
  17. It gets even worse when you read articles saying the following: https://www.dailywire.com/news/47888/bubonic-plague-likely-already-present-los-angeles-joseph-curl https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2019/06/04/los-angeles-homeless-population-up-12-amid-affordable-housing-crisis/1336734001/ I've seen skid row, but I never realized how bad the problem was in Los Angeles. The threat of medieval diseases mixed with a growing population spells trouble for the city.
  18. Hey, Zone de Erotica has finally bit the dust, and I thought it would never happen. Maybe we will see something happen in the next few years! Midtown just keeps growing.
