  1. I could be wrong, but technically I believe it is designed to flood.
  2. You have to push the "show historical imagery" button on the tool bar. When you do, the satellite imagery will change to 2-23-19. That being said, you won't see any updates on the 3-D imagery that normally pops up in Google Earth. That probably won't be updated for another 2-3 years.
  3. This talk of gondolas is nice and all, but where in the plan does it specifically state that gondolas (or light rail for that matter) are going to be incorporated into the project? I mean, it's a fair thing to assume some form of public transit will connect East River to the rest of town but are there any tangible plans on what may actually happen?
  4. I completely forgot they were coming downtown, that's a huge improvement over whatever is currently at the location.
  5. Ahhh, this site is that giant, empty lot next to Best Buy isn’t it? If so, great! Always thought it would be perfect for a low/mid rise tower.
  6. I pretty much agree with everything you said, Houston does have a relatively small homeless population in comparison to other major cities in the US. I mean, look at cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. I often visit other development forums to check on news in other places, and I've found multiple threads describing just how bad it has become in these places. I just had a conversation with someone visiting on business from San Francisco who commented on how it was almost a day and night difference in terms of the sight of homelessness in Dallas and Houston compared to his hometown. Other videos like "Seattle is Dying" also showcase the problems these other cities are running into. That being said, my wife and I visited downtown 2 weeks ago to get some food and walk around and there were a decent amount of homeless loitering around Market Square Park. My first encounter was a man straight up asking me for money, to which I ignored completely and attempted walking a completely different direction to avoid him. The second encounter was witnessing a homeless man trying to interfere with a young woman's photo shoot. A man that was with the photographer began yelling at the homeless man and started tailing him as he walked away. I may have just imagined things as well, but during the exchange, the man who was with the photographer pulled out what looked like a .22 and aimed it at the homeless man (in an attempt to deter him). As he followed the homeless man, he tried calling someone on his phone (assuming it was the policy) while keeping his hand on his holstered weapon. While these events were not frequent, they definitely made me feel uncomfortable to say the least, especially since my pregnant wife was with me (funny enough, the homeless events really did not bother her at all). Besides these incidents, the experience downtown was rather pleasant. Main Street was busy on that Saturday, and there were plenty of young people out and about either bar hopping or socializing.
  7. An additional rendering from the website that includes a helix structure shading the green space. I can kind of get behind this design a little more.
  8. I hope this is still moving forward, I would love to see this finally go up.
  9. The new design isn't bad by any means, but it's a little bit of a let down considering how the original design actually had the building shaped as the double helix versus just walkways. I love some of the new design features from the 3 new images, but I really want to see some renderings showing more detail of the total structure itself. Still a win for the city of Houston considering what it will bring.
  10. I like the idea of a trolley, I think Dallas has an old-time trolley system that runs through Uptown and Downtown. Having something like that would be cool, but I don't know how a vintage trolley would look with the East River plan. Gondolas would be neat as well.
  11. Drove past the site again today, almost no change. On a side note, it looks like they wrapped up the Target renovations and it looked spiffy inside and out:
  12. From Reddit, looks like more exterior work is taking place.
  13. Oh me too, I was just concerned for a brief moment that it was a real baby 😂
  14. Looks great, but what's up with the weird doll/child lying near the fountain in the second photo?
  15. The video looks amazing, I hope the tower comes out looking close to renderings. It would be a welcome replacement over what's currently on the site.
  16. San Jacinto College to Break Ground on Generation Park Campus https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2019/04/23/san-jacinto-college-to-break-ground-on-generation.html?ana=TRUEANTHEMTWT_HO&utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_content=5cbf44b30cef930001bd2ef6&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter "San Jacinto College will break ground April 23 on its new 57-acre campus in Generation Park, Houston-based McCord Development's 4,000-acre mixed-use business park in northeast Houston. Construction will begin at the corner of West Lake Houston Parkway and Lockwood, and the campus will be open for classes by next fall, a press release stated."
  17. True. I could very well be wrong, I just feel with all the activity going on in Uptown, all the towers that have gone up the past 3-4 years, and with the projects still under construction/planned, it just would be very disappointing to see a developer sit in such a prime location, especially with the Blvd project wrapping up the next 2 years.
  18. If this is the site just north of Common Bond, I believe I've seen either fencing or work being done on the previous property. I think a small, unique hotel would be a perfect addition to this neighborhood.
  19. Well, I'm not sure specifically, but if you read the Facebook post from the Poker Club above, they mention that after they move out the building will be torn down/demoed. I can't imagine they'd demo a property and not having something planned to go up in its place, especially right along the new Post Oak Blvd. Whether or not what we get in its place will look anything like the rendering is yet to be determined. If I had to guess, I'm assuming what we get looks different from what we've seen.
  20. Really, really hope this one happens. I got to eat at Flower Child this weekend and the view of the uptown skyline is looking good. I believe this tower would help fill in the gap looking southward between The Post Oak and the Astoria.
  21. I figured that it was only a matter of time. Let the countdown to a congestion nightmare begin.
  22. Astros Golf Foundation confirms new driving range plans for Memorial Park: http://atmlb.com/2UGYSGN "The new, expanded range will open November 1, 2019."
