The Abandoned Astrodome And Its Future
CaptainJilliams replied to gambitx's topic in Sports and Stadia
KHOU is reporting that construction on the Astrodome could start as soon as April 2019. https://www.khou.com/article/news/local/astrodome-renovation-project-could-begin-in-april-2019/285-618281576 -
That's very true. I guess the question is whether or not the Post Oak Blvd BRT could be converted to light rail at this point in time. Can the infrastructure being built currently support a change like that? I think this was discussed on another thread, but I don't know if we ever got a good answer. As for a Richmond/Westheimer line, I believe either of those is in the realm of possibility in comparison to Post Oak.

That would be great news, but I just don't want to get my hopes up too much.

M Square: Mixed-Use Development At 3200 Post Oak Blvd.

Agreed. Of all the things that could prevent this project from moving forward, I don't believe his death will be one of them. -
The Menil Collection At 1533 Sul Ross St.
CaptainJilliams replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Going Up!
On a brief aside, do we actually have a timetable on when the Richmond Redo will take place? This is coming from one who tries to keep his sanity driving up and down that pothole ridden road.- 420 replies

Well, a "new" painted sign would definitely be better than what's there now. Not preferred, but better. So I'll take it if that is the case.

I know this isn't necessarily an exciting development, but I'm just super happy that there's new infill on this property. More importantly, we will finally see that Joe's Golf sign get torn down.

POST: Mixed-Use Development At 401 Franklin St.
CaptainJilliams replied to sevfiv's topic in Going Up!
Of all the sites/projects downtown, it's this development I want to see happen more than anything, probably even more than the Block 58 Hines tower. Theres just so much space and potential for this site, so close to the arts district and the bayou. As much as I doubt we will see anything close to the renderings happen, I hope I'm seriously proven wrong.- 1,573 replies

Developers Have Ideas For Imperial Sugar Factory
CaptainJilliams replied to UrbaNerd's topic in Points Southwest
Another update via The Chronicle: https://www.chron.com/business/real-estate/article/Imperial-Market-property-sold-in-foreclosure-sale-13372976.php#photo-10766466 From the article: "Geoffrey Jones, one of the developers, said the property will be conveyed back to Imperial Market Development once a construction loan is secured. A substitute trustee's deed filed with the county cites a default, however, Jones said his group has been meeting its obligations. He said the project is around 60 percent preleased, with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema as its lead tenant. Construction, which has been delayed, is expected to start at the beginning of next year." -
I was in the area yesterday and decided to drive through the site. They are still working, albeit very slowly. It looks like the clock tower is nearing completion and the scaffolding has been taken down on almost all sides. It's a really nice development and it looks sharp, but it certainly feels like a ghost town over there. I hadn't been to the site before, and it is a bit out of range in terms of walking to downtown, but it's cool how close it is to Saint Arnold's Brewery. I think if they can add some more amenities (retail, green space), it could be a pretty cool place to be. But who knows what the timetable is on this? Probably take years to get to that point.

I'll I can say is thank goodness. I know it's just going to become bus parking, but at least it won't be as shady driving through the area.

Awesome shots! Love the LEDs. Similar to The Post Oak, even though it's a small feature, it gives the building some pop.
