  1. Yeah, this is the plate I have also. Goes well with a black coupe. Very classy, as are the new standard plates.
  2. Metro had owned that entire ROW before selling off some to build the WT. The rail could have been here sooner if it wasn't for incompetence by Metro and dumb politicians. But whenever it is built, ridership on it will be pretty good...
  3. Left for school. I'll be back once I graduate in about two years.
  4. There are sections with speed limits, or the suggested speed. And when I said enforce the same laws, I'm talking about passing on the right, not yielding for faster traffic, tailgating, etc. Makes sense to me, but instead we just get a ticket for going five+ over.
  5. Eh, it's not the speeding that causes accidents, but people's driving habits. People just pick a lane and drive whatever speed and don't yield for faster traffic. All speed limits in the urban areas should be raised to at least 70MPH and cops should enforce the same laws they do on the Autobahn, or hell, even China. These speed limits are nothing but a money grab. There are so many different cities in DFW, and the cops here will speed through one city, and then slow down once reaching their own to start pulling people over (have seen Fort Worth and Arlington cops do this...quite pathetic). I got pulled over for passing him at 64 (speed limit is 60)!!
  6. I really really dislike traffic cops. Brb giving you a ticket for speeding while they speed to the Chick-Fil-A parking lot. I've heard cops say they can relax and surf the web on their phones because they already reached their quotas for the month (Arlington cops). These fools park their motorcycles on corner sidewalks, try to blend in with other motorcycles at a motorcycle shop, park on the bottom of the hill with a steep grade, knowing your speed will increase, etc. I hate them.
  7. And if the Astros go back to the navy and orange next year, I wonder if there will be a new paint scheme at MMP. No idea what it is and apparently no one is suppose to be talking about it. Here is a photo:
  8. If Katy, Missouri City, and others want bus routes, then they should ask for them. Who leads unincorporated areas? The COH indirectly? Bus routes should be provided to those areas also.
  9. This sounds a lot like the Trinity River Tollway proposal in Dallas. Planned to be built in the middle of the Trinity River Floodplain, right next to the proposed Trinity River Park. It is not expected to get that much traffic and many in Dallas believes it is just one big money grab by politicians and corporations. In other words, its a stupid idea, just like this TMC Parkway.
  10. I'm sure people who don't work for Exxon will buy in there. Maybe Exxon won't allow it though.
  11. Lol, buses arent superior. Maybe in your specific situation, but overall, rail is clearly superior (on time performance, more capacity, etc.).
  12. So jealous of the towers Austin has been putting up. Makes me hope that the next convention center hotel in DT Houston isn't the same boring box as the Hilton. The Embassy just looks worse in every picture I see it in.
  13. I have heard rumors about that. Chevron has been downsizing the downstream (California) operations for sometime. To save more, it makes sense just to move everything to Houston.
  14. So, expand the Park and Ride service from 4:30 AM until 12AM then. And I do believe having it as rail would keep the riders who currently use it, plus add more. People are more comfortable with riding rails than buses. Commuter rail is just more reliable (less maintenance). I know they are Greyhound type buses, but maybe those buses could be used on express routes in the city or something. Commuter rail along the other half of the Westpark Tollway ROW, 290, etc., would be good for the city. Maybe if Washington decides to spend more on infrastructure, Metro won't be incompetent this time and use funds wisely.
  15. I don't know if it is a US problem. More of a sunbelt problem. There are many cities in America with reliable mass transit. And Pleak, rail is definitely more attractive to potential transit users than buses. That's not even a debate.
  16. Can you use the Park and Ride lots on the weekends and how is the schedule during off peak hours? And lets not pretend that the HOV lanes dont gey backed up, or slow down either. What you described is so different than three or so heavy rail cars out together. Each car with the capacity of two buses. The trains would just wait longer.
  17. What are the chances that another area lake is built, if flooding is such a concern?
  18. You have got to be kidding me. I wonder how quickly those residents would run to this hospital if they were in an emergency. Nah, they probably want to drive halfway across Pearland instead. I doubt Pearland will be as stupid as the residents and will just approve the hospital building. What are the protesters going to say? "We don't want hospitals and care facilities in our neighborhoods"? Or, "we are NOT the Texas Medical Center"? Seriously.
  19. This map is old though. Bridgeland is not even there and Fry Road is only highlighted because Google updates their streets. It's not even built on this map. I don't feel like cropping a picture, but anyone can go and look at Google Maps/Earth and see an updated photo if they just zoom in. There are more neighborhoods dotted all along this map. If you are coming back from Hempstead on 290, you start seeing rooftops at Katy-Hockley now.
  20. Here is a more clear rendering: http://swamplot.com/7-story-southwest-freeway-audi-dealership-gets-go-ahead-will-split-momentum/2012-05-14/#more-41181
  21. They aren't, at least in DFW. They are mostly in middle class areas (like Katy or Pearland). This is why I don't understand all this crap coming from Katy. I work near Fort Worth's Katy clone (Mansfield, TX) and it has an Aldi's right next to a Lifetime Fitness and upscale neighborhoods to the south. I have no idea why Aldi's is getting this ghetto label from people. There is nothing ghetto about it. They won't have everything you need, but if you just want chips, drinks, and other simple things, then they are honestly the best place to get them. Once that Aldi in Katy opens, half the neighborhood will be shopping there. And it's not like Oak Park Trails is the nicest neighborhood anyway....it's an average middle class neighborhood (half of it built by KB Homes).
  22. We are spoiled in the sunbelt. Chicago and cities in the northeast all have tolls. Even Orlando only has one actual freeway, for good reason. I can see it happening in Houston. Every new freeway built in Texas has tolls anyway.
  23. Well, it's easier to have higher ridership with heavy rail, with its higher speeds and capacities. Plus, Atlanta got its heavy rail built at the perfect time (when the Feds were handing money out for those systems). What kills Atlanta is its horrible secondary streets, which will probably never be fixed. A whole bunch of country roads, with a few modern looking ones, that go any which why. Contrast to Houston, where it's a giant grid with wider streets.
