  1. Yeah, those are very good ideas. The basics. Maybe throw in a Subway or Quiznos for good measure. They could do it.
  2. Here's what's going there: http://swamplot.com/apartment-building-replacing-tavern-on-gray-wont-have-any-retail-but-really-wants-to-hug-the-street-anyway/2011-04-21/#more-28023
  3. Good work sir. Looks like we can expect an announcement later on this month.
  4. Swamplot has some aerials of the site taken about a month ago: http://swamplot.com/aerial-views-of-exxonmobils-new-sprawling-top-secret-houston-headquarters/2011-04-15/#more-27794
  5. Legalize gaming and marijuana and this state will have a surplus.
  6. Yeah, but a lot of those buildings sit empty. Condo/office vacancy in that part of Dallas is high, due to the speculative building that they do there. In Houston, there does not seem to be as much speculation. Oh, and Dallas has zoning. That's the only spot in Dallas where highrises can go up (for the most part). In Houston, buildings go up all over the place.
  7. http://www.khou.com/news/local/Investors-ready-for-legalized-casinos-in-Texas.html With Disney Cruises also coming to Galveston next year, I think it's safe to say that Galveston tourism is back and on the upside. Galveston is where most Texans go for cruises. They like to spend time on the island before their ship departs. If gambling comes, it will only help the island. Can't wait to see a skyline along the seawall. Tilman Feritta wants to turn Galveston into a mix between the Santa Monica Pier area and Atlantic City. This would seriously be a boom for Galveston, which is tailor made for this.
  8. True, which is why I said they have it good up in DFW. I know it's not all about shiny new buildings, but you can't deny that the new campus would be at least a little enticing to Tillerson. Or he could be perfectly content in his Irving digs, plus nice home out in Bartonville (small little town off the beaten path in the DFW Metroplex). And hey, the Boy Scouts could move, too if Exxon moved. The Woodlands has some speculative office buildings going up that I'm sure BSA would fit right at home in. Isn't there a Scout camp near there, too? One thing is for sure, Houston will at least be getting their North American HQ. Houston basically runs the company already, and having the HQ would only be an added feather into Houston's cap, plus some prestige.
  9. Same here. The new campus (it's only proposed right ) are just too nice and big for the world HQ to not consider moving to Houston, in my opinion. They have it good up here in DFW, but what they have here won't compare to the new digs in Spring. Along with the Springwoods development, it has to at least be a little enticing to the CEO and Exxon board. To blow off steam coming from Irving leaders and to ease those Las Colinas developers, when the campus was first leaked out, they came out and said the Irving HQ is safe. But, as we get closer to the official announcement later on this month, it seems to be coming back up again. We'll see. Could be a mistake, like you said.
  10. I wonder what the future holds for Greenspoint. That place needs some help if this is true. Edit: Just read Red's post.
  11. Stuff we already know pretty much: http://www.yourhoustonnews.com/cypress/news/article_471a8224-5a89-11e0-9252-001cc4c002e0.html
  12. I came into town on Saturday for Kings of Leon. Was pretty fun. A lot of weed, and I'm surprised HPD didn't say anything. There were drug dogs, too and many bras were thrown on stage. Was very crowded and hot, but I only saw a few people leave the pit because they were dehydrated, etc. The mass exodus at the end caused problems on the Metro Rail though. That's what happens when tens of thousands of people leave at once. Metro should have ran more trains. Here is a pic my vantage point:
  13. Goldmine for Disney. Now families in Texas (as well as Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma) do not have to travel out to Cape Canaveral to get on a Disney Cruise. This is about the closest Texas will get to having a Disney theme park.
  14. TBH, Cinco Ranch has more lasting appeal than The Woodlands. The Woodlands is too far north and disconnected from much of the city. Cinco Ranch has multiple freeway/tollway connections into the city, and West Houston is the most built up side. If The Woodlands Parkway was a freeway similar to the Grand Parkway through Cinco Ranch, I think it would better help TW in the long-run. With the current setup, I'm not sure how much further west they can really develop without people just not wanting to live that far away from a freeway. And we'll see if the GP helps, or hurts TW. Will people, who don't want to live on the extreme western portions of TW instead live in a new develop off of the GP?
  15. I won't doubt there ever being a mall there (if not a mall, something else significant will be built there). It's in a good location, and the growing Katy area needs a real "regional" mall, instead of the outlets at Katy Mills. It'll happen, sooner or later, but the recession did kill it for the time being.
  16. And I'm pretty sure the single-family homes in Sharpstown have been increasing in value in recent years, as they are nice houses. Having Strake and St. Agnes is also a plus for Sharpstown, as well as being near Chinatown. People seem to only associate those apartments as the only thing in Sharpstown.
  17. I wonder what their gas bill is, or do they use some electric Bay Area "Green" car?
  18. Guess they aren't expecting that much development on US 90 between 610 and the Beltway.

  20. The 2010 Census numbers are about 150K off from the 2009 estimates, for the City of Houston. People not participating is my reasoning. Now, the Houston metro did slightly better than expected. Austin and San Antonio were right around where they expected. DFW underperformed, according to the Census, and Houston hasn't been this close to it in metro population for about 25 years. I see a lot of cities appealing this Census (as usual...).
  21. Yeah, 59 needs to be submerged. It would connect the East side of Downtown with all the new development much easier. It's too bad 59 is only submerged near the interchange with 45.
  22. DAMN! Better late than never I guess. Whatever happened to them being able to break ground and open up a commuter rail line in 18 months? I read that somewhere in this HAIF universe.
