  1. La Viva / La Viva Cantina soft opened in Oak Forest last week . The Tex-Mex restaurant is located at 1201 W 43rd St.
  2. The Google Maps listing for food truck In Between the Buns is not new. It's been listed since the food truck opened. In Between the Buns initially operated at 807 W 19th St when it debuted several years ago. Nowadays, the truck travels to various sites around Houston.
  3. Pastore closed over the weekend. The Italian restaurant from Underbelly Hospitality was located in Regent Square at 1180 Dunlavy St, Suite 100. Houston Chronicle reports the restaurant group may consider opening another concept in its place. In the meantime, "the restaurant will be used as an event space for the steakhouse Georgia James, which is located next door in Regent Square." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/food-culture/restaurants-bars/article/pastore-houston-restaurant-closing-19362626.php
  4. @steve1363 Thank you for the recent photos of 1132 E 11th St. The building is in need of repair. I hope Magnol will restore it.
  5. Thanks for the information, @steve1363. I appreciate it. With street parking prohibited along Hogg Middle School (on Oakridge St) during school hours, maybe that's why Magnol purchased the 1132 E 11th St property. The additional space may be for parking. I suppose we'll know for certain later this year when Magnol officially announces their expansion.
  6. Below are recent photos of 1111 E 11th St. The photos were posted in an unrelated topic last week. As mentioned, boxing gym Rumble and coffee shop Starbucks are leasing units. https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/topic/53342-1132-e-11th-st/?do=findComment&comment=698968
  7. I don't know. Either way, there is some kind of construction or renovation going on beyond painting that has not been greenlighted by the city. A city inspector visited the 807 W 19th St property March 20th and red tagged it. Their notes are below: I55 on 311 complaint for unpermitted construction. Upon arrival no contact was made. From city right of way I55 observed some unpermitted construction that has been done. Two windows have been removed from the front of the building by the door. I55 did not have access to the inside of the building, but there is a construction dumpster with remanence of construction being done. In the back of the property there is a canopy structure that has been constructed with stairs and electrical connected. This project will require a remodel permit, coded for all trades. 1st red tag posted, and follow up scheduled. https://houston311.powerappsportals.us/en-US/checkcasestatus/casedetail/?id=cd66d9ef-f0e5-ee11-904d-001dd80b3e11
  8. @hindesky as mentioned in a few posts from last fall, the coffee shop opening at Harlow District is no longer called BOCA (B.O.C.A. or Boca). It was renamed to Pavón (or Pavón Coffee Den). The coffee shop is from the hospitality group Almost Famous Concepts. Pavón is located at 1216 W Clay St, Suite 200 (or may be Suite 300). https://www.houstonarchitecture.com/topic/46577-harlow-district-at-west-dallas-at-2817-w-dallas-st/?do=findComment&comment=688452
  9. La Borra Cafe closed its doors at Shops at Arrive River Oaks. I'm not sure when it closed. The cafe was located at 2800 Kirby Dr, Suite B-128. Taking over Suite B-128 is a food & beverage concept named Kira. It's from Comma Hospitality. The hospitality group consists of the proprietors of luxury menswear clothing line Glass Cypress (1711 Indiana St). I'm not sure what kind of concept this will be. In addition to Kira, Comma Hospitality is working on another restaurant project. The group have plans for a dining concept in the Heights area at 746 W 24th St. Details about the eatery are scare. However, it's possible it may be a brick-and-mortar restaurant for Japanese pop-up restaurant Neo. There is a registered web domain for Kira. Also, there is a recently created Instagram account. https://kirahtx.com https://instagram.com/kirahtx
  10. Pizzana opens to the public this week. The Los Angeles pizzeria announced its opening its Houston outpost March 22. Pizzana occupies the former Starbucks unit at 2029 W Gray St. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4tXzPyy3As/
  11. I too am hoping a the building on the property can be rehabbed. I see potential for it. Perhaps in the coming months we'll learn more about Magnol's plans for 1132 E 11th St and the former Andy's Home Cafe restaurant.
  12. A special warranty deed for this property was recorded to the county clerk's database two weeks ago. According to the document, Houston Housing Authority acquired the property. HCAD lists the parcel address as 0 Rose Western Court. The three acre parcel is located in the Timbergrove area. This may be in the Timbergrove Southwest neighborhood, but I'm not certain. As mentioned in above posts, Houston Housing Authority is constructing a mixed-income apartment complex on the property. Named Campanile on Minimax, the apartments are located at 2727 Minimax St. January 2022 Google Earth images
  13. If the 1132 E 11th St property will be utilized for surface / overflow parking, I think residents or people visiting the neighborhood may welcome it. I've never driven on Oak Ridge, at least the portion where this property is location. I do not know if there are signs prohibiting street parking or not. If not, then, people will probably park on the street too. After last year's clash over Andy's Home Cafe's discontinued use of a nearby parking lot, perhaps the acquisition of this property remedies some of the parking issues. I don't know the owner of Magnol or am I privy to their expansion plans, but I'm assuming this may be a preventative measure to ensure their customers have parking options.
  14. Photos of the 807 W 19th St property from the Facebook Marketplace listing:
  15. Nice find, @springcityparts. Thank you for passing this along. From the Facebook Marketplace listing for 807 W 19th St, where Amsterdam Cocktail Co. operated: Beautiful restaurant in Heights area; privileged location; excellent clientele; truly a dream. It has a grease trap already installed and space to make a kitchen. The lease is really amazing $5400 . ALL PERMITS UNDER NEW OWNER NAME ARE INCLUDED !!!! The building is not included just the business installed.
  16. Below is a screenshot of the plan review inspection report for 807 W 19th St at present:
  17. I looked up 807 W 19th St on the 311 app and there were several complaints filed. The most recent one is from this week for building code violation. According to the complaint, work on the property is being done without a construction permit. However, I searched the permit database and there was plan reviewing fee purchased for 807 W 19th St back in October. Gage Architecture purchased the permit. Based on the Plan Review Inspection Report, the plans were not approved and returned back to the applicant in January. I don't know when Amsterdam Cocktail Co. closed its doors. So, I'm not certain if the plan review permit was for Amsterdam or whatever is replacing it. 20. Houstonia magazine recently reported news of Tacos Doña Lena / Tacos Dona Lena's upcoming expansion. CultureMap and Houston Chronicle have articles from late February about the expansion; however, Houstonia has more details. Below is additional information from the Houstonia article published yesterday. As previously mentioned, Tacos Doña Lena is opening a second location. It's located in the Timbergrove area at 1805 W 18th St. The new location, which spans 3,000 square feet, is slated to open in late April or early May at 1805 W. 18th St. [The restaurant will include] the same orange walls, colorful piñatas, and some other decor from Jalisco, Mexico. https://www.houstoniamag.com/eat-and-drink/2024/03/tacos-dona-lena-heights-location
