  1. I thought it was cool when I heard The Dreamliner took off, when I saw the video I was a little alarmed at the shape (or flex?) Of the wings as it took off.
  2. He's a complete ass, so I agree. One thing that really caught my eye was not only was he able to only hit his target, but looking at it from another angle, he was at least 20 feet away and had to JUMP to see and throw at his target. Tellin' ya', he could have made an awesome quarterback!
  3. I'm on the fence about the new policy. If the DA simply has a hard time going to trial and convicting people with these trace amounts, then perhaps it's a better way to go if all you're worried about is your conviction rate. I'd say find a way to put them on "deferred probation" for an extended amount of time. Given the histories of people that do drugs, they WILL commit a crime in the future that will revoke that probation and then toss them into jail. Drugs should stay illegal, plain and simple. 99% of the people that are involved in that lifestyle do delve into other illegal activities. If you don't believe that, you're living on another planet. Additionally, I say start taxing the illegal drugs. If someone is busted with drugs without the appropriate "drug stamp", let the IRS hound them. There is more than one way to skin a cat.
  4. Spotted this last night. Pretty good work on the trees, I thought.
  5. I think if you can get the number to the parking division over at the GRB that would be the best way to go. There is a pretty good chance you'd get a positive response, they like to feel like they are loved.
  6. Citykid, you have no clue as to what it took just to get THIS one line open. Perhaps if you look through some of the threads and see how the city built this with it's own funds to SPITE Tom Delay and some of the tactics he used, you'd be a bit more understanding. But I guess when one only looks at the problems as they are, some people neglect to see how it got there to begin with.
  7. Looks to me someone might have some insulation issues that might need to be addressed.
  8. Are you sure you're a native? If you had been, you would have remembered the howls of protest brought up when the monorail was proposed in the 80s. Then again, the people from AO were also vocal about it since they considered it a Blight on their neighborhood. Kinda makes me wonder if ANYTHING regarding transit will ever be built through there.
  9. I wouldn't be too quick to jump down his throat. Sometimes its the ancedotes from different people are often used to provide details in which isn't always clear looking at a big picture. The problem is that those with a differing view just assumes someone with a different viewpoint is a moron.
  10. Then again, you could always just collect the rain water for lawn use.
  11. Yep. December 10th is the date to watch. From what I heard, METRO is already looking at bids and if things go through, they expect dirt to turn over in just over a year.
  12. As much as it pains me, looks like I'm going to vote for Parker.
  13. Was talking to someone over the holidays that works with metro, he's saying that the ridership has increasing fairly steadily. He didn't give me numbers. He has said most people that arrive into town go across the street to metro to hop on a bus, but that quite a number of them will get picked up by various hotel shuttles, friends, or cabs. Off hand he figured ridership is about 300 a day now, with the bus being half full at peak and only two or three people on off peak rides.
  14. I wonder if the city has just gotten aggressive with ticketing and booting as of late. Perhaps people have gotten so out of control on the limited parking spaces they have, that perhaps they had to put more manpower behind it. I'm starting to see the COH Parking enforcement at all hours and neighborhoods for in increasing amounts over the past few months.
  15. Should be interesting to see how long this one shuttle can make the entire route and back. From what I had read, they were hoping for two or three shuttles, I wonder if they plan on having more on the strip, or simply have routes that would overlap with one in midtown.
  16. Don't forget the one simple fact that the fireproof insulation that surrounded the steel supports was blown away in two of the towers that exposed it to the fires. One has to assume that the same thing happened to WTC7 when the debris crashed into the side of the building. Produce enough shock to a surface and all sorts of things are bound to be shaken loose. Even a small house fire can produce a substantial amount of heat if there is enough fuel inside.
  17. Yes, you're almost acting like THEM, except this doesn't involve a poltical slant (yet). You also missed the point that 7 of the stations will be available for the public and that will allow the more gutsy of the earlier adoptors to be able to go further. Red has it right; the green movement won't gain popularity if there isn't something in it for the consumers OR manufacturers of the goods. Don't be on the far left of an argument. Its as unappealing as being the right end on the I10 thread.
  18. Having used the NYC subway system, I can attest that the things aren't cool, if anything, it was like a freakin' furnace down there! The Pedestrian element that was mentioned there is different than what it is here: It's wider, but it only serves as little more than a conduit to allow people to go from one connection to another. I think we should all simply make an index or FAQ as to WHY Houston doesn't have a subway yet, lord knows it would save us from typing the same things over and over.
  19. Perhaps a collective drive by doggie do bag fire might be in order.
  20. I think this is basically what it comes down to: KNOWING what is legal and DOING what is ethically and morally right. It comes back to a post I did several years ago on the topic (which I can't find) on how if it is possible for people to be jerks and not know it.
  21. Not unusual at all. There have been cases where Volunteer FD members would start fires where they would then be called out to put it out. I would have no doubt that a firebug might be a member of HFD, however it would be difficult for him to slip away to light one if he's on duty.
  22. Well, considering this is a rough sketch, you would have figured he would have allowed for drainage and pipes for utilities under the tracks. But whatever.
  23. I agree with MM on that, if I were to take friends to good food, I'd take them to mom and pop places. The point is, as I have mentioned on the "promote east side" thread, no one HAS to have a reason to go to any particular place as long they have enough to do in their own section of town. Midtown, Montrose, River Oaks, W.ave, heights, etc all have great eats. If I'm in one part of town, I go to a certain place for food. Someone living in the galleria wouldn't go all the way to "La Mexicana" for Mexican in Montrose, when they can "settle" on whatever mexican joint is in their area.
