In case you didn't realize it by now, but I took a few photos this weekend. Here is the construction that RSB mentioned, I've been meaning to stop by to get a photo before the area started work on the station there. Any word on the super station yet?

I got a couple of new overhead pics of the I-45/Scott crossing. Couldn't find where I had posted them, so I figured I'd repost them here. Before: and currently (as of today's date):

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
ricco67 replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
Agreed, IT is a pressure cooker of a job, but when a trader's computer goes down, it has to be done and fixed right then. Literally money is flying before their eyes if a computer has a SNAFU and all eyes are on you. No thanks. -
GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
ricco67 replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
They hire IT people, but from what I was told, it is a serious pressure cooker of a job. They almost hired me, but I bailed after watching how they operated. They couldn't pay me enough. -
I think that the old slots that are closest to the new development will be at an advantage by the additional traffic and relatively lower rents, particularly if they recently renewed their leases.

I-45 Rebuild (North Houston Highway Improvement Project)
ricco67 replied to ToryGattis's topic in Traffic and Transportation
I agree, it is interesting, but an accident doesn't have to occur in the roundabout to screw things up. A sizable accident on ONE of the outbound freeways could spell disaster- 3,370 replies

any bets on the location? I'm betting a penny on the block at West Main, Kirby, Colquit, and Lake Streets. There just aren't that many sizable pieces of land that people would be willing to part with. I wouldn't doubt if the current location of "Roak" might be swallowed up. The club has been open for a bit over a year and probably has made its money by now and is probably starting to wane.

Before I get to the convention, I was disappointed in the coverage on the radio. Since I live in purgatory, I had a substantial drive to get home and I was listening to 92.1 for a bit, but I realized they were talking over the various speakers. It was only as I was passing downtown that I got frustrated and hit every. single. channel until I found one that did it uninterrupted. Anyway, Ann Romney's speech was OK in my opinion. I wished she would have gotten into more details on his struggles and trials in his businesses and marriages. The Christie speech was a bit of a let down, but I wasn't expecting a massive tirade like Pat Buchanan's speech back in 92 either. Overall, neither speech changed my opinion in one way or another. One thing that really irritated me was the fact that, according to drudge's list of articles, no one of color is REALLY in the GOP.

Photography: tips, tricks and equipment!
ricco67 replied to samagon's topic in Photographing Houston
Even at a texan game, I didn't have problems shooting without a flash. Yes. The equipment is that awesome. Saw an article about what they carry, and some of the lenses alone were in the ten grand range. -
I can relate, I was passing ellington when I saw the giant guppy taking off. THAT was unreal looking. I can't edit to take a peek at the A380. Maybe I can get a food shot from one of the garages.

Did it give a time? I might be about to make it, depending on how early it is.

Interesting comment, considering your logo. Just sayin'.

After reading all this, I think I think everyone is making a mountain out of a molehill. For me, the uniform simply is more functional then the old uniform. The boots would be far better use while pursing a suspect over rougher terrain (i.e. not on sidewalks) as well as offer a better grip over concrete surfaces. Supposedly, the material will allow them to be cooler and allow them to take their bullet proof vests on and off more easily when inside a station. Now, if you prefer them to utilize a uniform over a bullet proof vest on a 90-100 degree day that isn't that breathable to begin with, along with pants that can be easily torn wearing shoes that can easily slip and slide even on a concrete surface during a foot chase, then I can see your complaining about it. Screw the police, they don't need a practical uniform.

In the days leading up to, I threw EVERY bottle of water I had in the freezer, then turn them into ice, shifted them into the fridge, reloaded more water bottles on top and continued the cycle until my fridge/freezer were full. When the power went out, my fridge was cool for almost a week. The food inside was either cooked or consumed within a matter of days using a cooker outside. burgers/meats were consumed within a day of the storm, sandwiches 4 days after the storm. I had cool/cold water for a little over a week. Ice wasn't a big deal to come by after the first week. Fuel was more challenging for the car, but I learned that you were better off getting it at night when the lines were shorter, and in some cases, nonexistent. Overall, being without power for 21 days wasn't really that big of an issue, aside from missing TV and wondering what the coverage was like (even when I went to NYC a week after the storm, I didn't see any real coverage up there). To this day, I don't know how much or how little coverage got compared to New Orleans.

I think just a street and general cross street would have sufficed. That would just be neighborly.

what's even more funny is El Tiempo being mistaken for "true Tex mex".
