  1. That just means its time to change your undergarment.
  2. But one of the arguments that have been used in the past is that they dont want an elevated rail system to blot out the sun.
  3. I don't think anyone would be opposed (too much) to a subway. The problem is to justify the cost of one to the Feds who has to approve it. From what I understand, even New York can't really get the funds that they need for new lines.
  4. Here are the stats from Metro's January report: For the 81 for a weekday, saturday and sunday: 4,865 2,836 1,897 Avg it out and multiplied by 7 days is: 22395. For the 81 for a weekday, saturday and sunday: 6,544 4,647 3,106 Avg it out and multiplied by 7 days is: 33360. Those aren't bad numbers, and that doesn't take into account for special events that would swell numbers significantly. The Elevated would be shot down by the NIMBY's at A-Oaks as they did the monorail back in the 80's, and there is surely a chance they'd protest like crazy against a street level alignment (which wouldn't be a good idea anyway), but I wouldn't doubt they'd protest anything that MIGHT have a stop at their neighborhood. We all know thugs love using public transportation. ANYHOO, I think a subway alignment would probably be best along this route, even though the numbers don't quite justify the cost of one. If one is constructed, the ridership numbers would increase substantially simply by the amount of people that work on the west side and don't wish to get involved with the insane traffic in the galleria, along with the workers that have to be involved with that insanity, as well as the visitors at the many hotels in the area (what is it now? About 15 hotels in Uptown alone?).
  5. They are going to have to offer a substantial amount of cash to The Houston Club to make it worth their while. That thing is a major money maker, believe it or not.
  6. I went a little crazy when I saw the that douche' location name was picked alongside the "Stadium" station. In fact, I had a (admittedly) insane argument when someone said "EaDo" in a conversation. What surprised them was how many people were nodding their heads as they were agreeing with me.
  7. It is my most sincere hope that if they do put some lanes on this thing, they elevate them and engineer them so a light rail can eventually go up there.
  8. Neither was it when we first started speculating about this piece of land. The overhead pictures that were taken seem to show they are building something, and I get the distinct impression they're not going to build just a ton of 5 storey buildings.
  9. If you're talking about white collar workers, then I might say the number might be just a BIT high. However, I don't think this is a sign that sky scrapers won't be in use in the future. It could just be that if you're running a larger company, a place MUST exist for employees to gather for a variety of reasons.
  10. My god we're a bunch of nerds. I feel so....teased.
  11. Unless they are offering free booze (for that 50 buck ticket), I'd want to know what's going on. I just hope a HAIFer is inside there.
  12. Just remember to take a fast lens. You might have to run after you walk in.
  13. I just ran across this: Culture Map Basically, they are pondering giving the building over to the city of Houston. Would this be a good thing or not? BTW: Can mods move this to an appropriate place?

  15. Kinda' wished they went a big bigger, but this should help out quite a bit with people who work in the area that can't afford to live in any of the high rises in the area. I'm guessing this will be "affordable" living in the area. Then again, once this is built, it might force some of the other apartment buildings to be a bit more competitive. Relatively speaking of course. Galleria area prices are always going to be crazy high.
  16. While cruising the Internets, I found this mentioned on another site that helps with one of the fundamentals with photography.
  17. Damn. So I can't flick a cig in the canopy to make it turn into a giant torch? I'd have to practice considering I don't smoke.
  18. I totally agree. screw the tree. Let the community activists build a better memorial as they see fit from their own pockets. Now, if Ike blew down that tree, this whole thing wouldn't even be an issue.
  19. Never even knew of them until I heard a brief mention of them on an episode of The Big Bang Theory. I just thought they were some made up place for a punchline. It'll be interesting to see how they compare/survive against Taco Bell (which should be no big deal) and other local joints. I mean, really? Can't we use another good Mexican joint in this city, that is located over 4 hours away from the border?
  20. Aug 10, 2011 ISO: 100 Exposure: 30.0 sec Aperture: 18.0 Focal Length: 18mm This is an example of one of my first attempts at full manual, adjusting the armature, white balance, and focus. There is the "starring" we talked about previously, but I was also using the 17-50mm kit lens. This was me using my new (to me) 28mm 2.8 lens. Note: No starring. ISO: 100 Exposure: 2.0 sec Aperture: 3.5 Focal Length: 28mm The trick I found with not finding someplace to focus on is to simply aim to a viable object to focus, move to your object and shoot. the other is to simply learn how to focus manually, or set the lens to Infinity and you should be able to get decent results. I took an opportunity to sneak a camera into a concert and was able to take good pictures, problem was that I had to really push up the ISO. ISO: 800 Exposure: 1/100 sec Aperture: 2.8 Focal Length: 28mm I am by no means an expert at it, but practice and tips always help. Edit: Just realized I essentially did a double post and already covered this. Good god, how will I be when I get old(er)?
  21. Yes. Biba's One's a meal>one's a meal>Theo's. Baba's One's a meal>Vacant for a couple of years>Opens new place at old location. From what I was able to get from the people at One's a meal after they had moved, was that Biba's kitchen was a total disaster and he refused to do any upgrades or repairs.
  22. It seems like an easy thing to remember, but for some reason, I can't seem to get the full grasp of "DOF" and I think I fail miserably at it. Recently, I just purchased a 50mm 1.7 and I'm thrilled about the potential of getting some awesome night shots. Does this mean I can get only one thing in focus? I'll try to find an example a bit later.
  23. Bibas? dont you guys mean, "one's a meal", now theo's? Bibas place is a sham.
  24. Managed to take a photo of the lot with a bit of perspective of what the intersection is like (sorta) , along with a greenway skyline. Enjoy.
