  1. Here is a picture of some interesting demolition that I happen to catch. Made for an attention getting view, I had to circle around to get my camera ready.
  2. Went ahead and took pics of the site as it currently stands. It should be interesting to see how this develops.
  3. Had some time on friday, so I went by the Light rail construction of the bridge modifications at the UHDT section. This is looking over the computer fence looking north. This is the view from directly below the the bridge to the road leading towards main street. So to speak.
  4. Your post did come across as being a bit xenophobic. To simply make sure you have a particular "culture" you want to hang out with, to me, describes someone that isn't that open to other things and other ideas. It's akin to a Mexican American that simply seeks out a portion of the city where you don't have to speak english, eat nothing but tacos, and hang out at the mexican bar and listen to Tejano and Ranchero music. Of course, I could be totally off base of what I'm saying.
  5. I think american airlines operates the same way here compared to atlanta. Otherwise I don't think you would notice much of a difference here.
  6. You should think that it would be AWESOME because you're going to be able to have a window seat of a high rise go up. Ever ponder time lapse photography?
  7. I have been trying to access METRO's Metrosolutions site, but it seems like someone might have forgotten to renew it. Anyone has any info on it? Did someone screw up? Did they abandon it? Did Niche make them cry and leave?
  8. According to Swamplot, its scheduled for demolition. I'm so totally anxious for this to happen. Does anyone know what is going to take the place of it? Tell you what, the moment this thing closes, what metal is on that site might disappear, but not that quickly. They have an easier time bumming money off people.
  9. For those that might be interested, here are the ridership reports posted at Metro Website. It makes for an interesting read...at least, to me.
  10. The problem with most times during major events if that if it is after"rush hour", they hold onto the 15 minute train schedule. It makes for getting in and out of reliant a bit of a wait. But as it has been mentioned before, the 19 cars due to arrive by the end of the year will make a difference.
  11. 140 spaces? Three levels down isn't it? Kinda makes me wonder if that is going to be enough spaces. If it reaches capacity quickly, look for other developers to include sizable public garages in their plans.
  12. You're correct, Lanier pillaged the funds that METRO had and diverted them to Police and other projects I forget. I wonder if there is some way to allow metro to get its full penny tax back, instead of it being split up to other entities?
  13. Agreed. Kinda makes me wonder if they are eventually going to shut down the smith lands and build a mega garage.
  14. I did a little fast talking and got some security to allow me to take pictures from the top of the garage at Kirby. I did it using my 70-300 lens and it was my first attempt at such a shoot, but I made some fairly critical errors as a newbie. The first was the crappy tripod, but also I neglected to turn off the image stabilizer. The flare you see off to the right was a refinery that JUST started as I clicked the shutter. Plus also remember, that Nikon and Canons aren't the only cameras out there. For me, Sony is the perfect camera that had the most features in a reasonable budget. Photography IS a bit of an expensive hobby, (I got about $2k in filters, lenses, bags, etc) but it can be a very relaxing hobby.
  15. When I first purchased my camera, I got a cheap tripod (20?) and regretted it, particularly with this picture: (ISO100, f4, 10sec, 85mm) it was a bit windy and I could feel my tripod moving. I was hoping to blow up this pic and frame it, but no. Which reminds me, I need to go back and try this shot again. I went out the next day and purchased a studier one from Camera Exchange (90?) and it was awesome. I'd recommend you get one with a quick release for quick shoot and scoots. I tried pixtus.com and a few others, but I was less then pleased with the treatment on newbies on asking questions and feedback on how to make the photos better.
  16. I was involved in a few photographic forums and they all seem to suffer from "Your photo sucks because.." syndrome. They are particularly harsh at the noobs for some reason to the point I just stopped going.
  17. According to the mighty wiki, the ridership that day was 65,005. But there was quite a few hiccup that day, including shutting down the life the line after leeland.
  18. Simply awesome. LOL, I think I'm going to go for that picture. I've been noticing more and more people riding the rail as a way to get TO their final destinations to avoid the parking hassles, which is the smart way to go. It has gotten to the point that I actually worry about the Red line's capacity once the other routes reach completion. As it stands, Robertson, Dynamo, MMP, Reliant, stand to have heavy use during their games, Med center and DT's Ridership has increased faster than projections. With the rodeo running at capacity now, I kinda' wonder what true capacity of it will be (even with the additional cars due to go on line later this year) and if METRO will be flexible enough to be able to handle the pulses of increase usage during major events. But like I've said on other threads, someone would make a mint if they built a large garage with retail on the bottom near the stations.
  19. You are correct as far as the location goes. I didn't bother looking at street signs. As far as the hobby center garage goes, I just drive up there at about midnight and started up there for a total of about ten minutes. Believe me, it was one of the longest ten minutes of my life. after this shot, I learned abut more about F stops and such a purchased my 28mm.
  20. Since we're giving rig setups: I'm running on a Sony SLT55. My "standard" lens is a Minolta 28 2.8, which I always use at night. My daytime lens is the 70-200mm, but only if I have something in mind to shoot.
  21. Carrying on from rail discussion, this is what I was trying to avoid using an open aperture: While the photo itself is all pretty (ISO400, 22Aperture, 25sec), the starring effect of the lights got on my nerves. I took this with my 17-50mm kit lens that my camera came with (stats on a later post). been meaning to go back up with my newer lens and a shorter exposure time. Compare it with this: Notice the lack of starring because of the different settings. (ISO1600, 2.8, 1/25th 28mm) This was a quick snap and shoot and only had about 10 seconds to set it up. Considering the area (dowling at polk), I wasn't too interested in setting up for a longer exposure, but I was quite happy with this one.

maybe we should start a new thread on this, so mods feel free to do so: The larger the aperture number the "smaller" the hole in which light gets in, a 2.8 is fairly wide open and allows me to shoot "fast" pictures at night. Add a higher ISO number to the mix and you can speed up the picture a bit more. a 2.8 with a 3200 ISO gave me a shutter speed at 1/15th of a second. with a 1600 ISO, it would have given me a 1 second (I think) exposure time. Same thing if I increased my aperture number but left my ISO alone. I still get a bit tripped up occasionally. Like I said, I'm a relative newbie to this.

I shoot with a 28 2.8 at night because of speed, which is a bit of a necessity of where I shoot at night. It was shot with a 2.8 because I don't like the "starring" effect I get with a higher aperture number. I'm hoping to get a new 50mm 1.7 in a few weeks, though. If I have time, I'll give it another shot tonight.

I'm starting to shoot RAW to take care of some issues I have, particularly since I love shooting at night (see previous photos), so I'm hoping to correct some errors. Believe it or not, there is very little post done on the photos. I'm about to get Photoshop Elements....but anyway.... I'm sure the lamp will eventually be replaced once construction in that area is done. That thing has been tilted in one direction or another for months. I'm assuming things keep bumping into it.

I was out and about experimenting with RAW photos, and I thought I'd snap a pic or two. Still trying to get the hang of editing them, so they might appear amateurish. actually, several, but here are my faves.
