  1. It is not pointless if we can get some federal dollars of it.
  2. That is actually consider good, there are worse things done than this. It may be annoying but it certainly isn't bad when compare to getting religious rules into government. I wouldn't mind getting preached a little more if it means getting their attention off trying to put religion into government.
  3. No kidding? I mean, logic would dictate green wins all other colors or whatever the color combination. Houston is very diverse, but interracial couples are rarer here compare to LA and west coast for that matter. Makes one wonder why, especially for such a diverse place. But in your case, maybe its just the agent?
  4. Well, it started because you tried to undermine the number of folks who do want to live in a dense walkable city. It is this type of prevalent mentality that can delayed the building up of density in Houston. Yes, there is no ultimate ideal, but we can start by getting rid of that mentality, especially to those in charge. And I wouldn't use our region as a good indicator of whether ppl really want a dense city, because the inner loop isn't really dense. With other cities, its driving in the subs vs not driving in the city. Here, its a case of driving further vs driving nearer.
  5. I would prefer to live with just family, but I wouldn't mind if my family has own separate area. Would be great if with separate entry. What are woolie and lockmat's preferred cities anyway? No point if it is different from mine.
  6. To afford to live in the dense city that was as described, we would need more than one roommate. I would prefer to work hard and move to a dense city I really want when I have enough money.
  7. Yeah, but I was taking more about wants. If not for costs, more folks would want what he wants too. I am one of those revealed preferences, but its not really a preference but rather cost practicality, and I think woolie is in the same situation too. If not for costs, I do want to live in a denser city.
  8. Talking about popular and walkable dense cities as described by woolie. Read above and previous posts please.
  9. let's do one thing at a time. Woolie said: My own aesthetic tastes run towards traditional-urban, european-style cities. I am willing to make the net-income and convenience sacrifices to live in one. I feel it's more than repaid by the accessibility of things that I consider important to my quality of life. A diverse, organic urban fabric. Mixed-use. Less reliance on big box stores. Multiple transportation modalities. I prefer to live and walk in a world populated by people instead of cars. I think there's a quote, "what fascinates people is people." I care about the quality of the built environment... I feel that a place that's been occupied for hundreds of years isn't old, rather it's a continuously optimized solution, an urban organism fully adapted to its context. ps. I don't ever want kids. So many things don't ever enter into tradeoff compromises. You said: You're very much in the minority. And I said, that's not true. Look at the the huge population in dense popular walkable cities that fits his description. Not only do a lot of ppl want what he wants, They are willing to pay more, so how does that make him very much in the minority. Turns out he isn't really very much in the minority, so you need to acknowledge that first.
  10. NY, SF, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Boston, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Madison, San Diego. There should be more
  11. That is not true, so many folks want to live in a walkable city with high (ppl) density. Just look at the population of other walkable popular cities, and that is despite the high cost. I would imagine the cost is lower, there would be even more people.
  12. Sesame Street sounds kind of nice compared to lack of density and having to drive for every little thing.
  13. Chinese(Mandarin) and Spanish. Two worthy language investments.
  14. It is possible to clean the beach sand, but is it humanly possible to clean the water? What would be required? Like building something to stop the churning or collect sediments somewhere, how would it work? Has it work anywhere else before? Any examples so I can dream of it also happening to Galveston's water?
  15. Palais Royal is known for selling fat and fashionless suburban attire. I second the best buy or a bookstore
  16. We should also ask why folks buy trucks when they don't even use it to pickup or haul anything. Most of the trucks I see on the roads have nothing in the back of them pickups, and the beds are always so shiny clean inside. What is the point when air is all they are picking up?.
  17. They get crushed by our pickups and suvs. We are so spread out and have lots of parking, it makes sense to have a regular car. IMO
  18. Maybe there should be donut trucks driving around, donut places are mostly packed in the mornings, doesn't justified a store. Maybe a donut truck would be good business
  19. The point is men make more than women in general. Doesn't mean that ALL men make more money than women. Isn't that pretty obvious?
  20. There is already one smoothie place and a coffee place just directly across. How many of the same things does one did. Within a 10 mile radius, there is more than enough donuts shops, sandwich places, dry cleaners, smoothies, nail salons, hair cutting places already. That is why we have so many over weight folks running around with nice nails and clean clothes. And there is already two nail salons right next to each other already, plus this one, there will be three. Is there really a need for so many nail salons? I don't understand this thinking at all. What is the point of spending so much money and time on having perfect nails when its attached to out of shape bodies? If it is so important to look good, how about concentrating on body shape first.
  21. Saw this pics on city-data and had to put it here. http://www.city-data.com/forum/seattle/801...-pics-week.html Been a year since I visited seattle. missed it
  22. Sorry to hear that. I think they should have forgo that ceremony if they knew what was going to happen. Its like a slap in the face. $250 a day for unemployment? You mean a week right?
  23. I was there yesterday and it was pretty dead except for ppl having coffee. Most likely because not much restaurants yet. Its seems the only walkable areas in these parts. Also, the villagio area will be good to walk a too. I would actually like to see a united states post office here in la centerra. I don't know why. just like that thought
