Regent Square: Mixed-Use On Allen Parkway At Dunlavy St.
Twinsanity02 replied to Travel_n_Transport's topic in Going Up!
In addition, other cities also have sprawl: DFW, Kansas City, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Indianapolis,LA. All had the great majority of their metro growth and design after the War when families were larger, folks purchased automobiles and wanted to live in single family houses. It's less expensive and roomier to live in the suburbs when you have children to raise. No children or just one child, the city may be more affordable.- 1,531 replies

You're right. Finally see downtown as it is not as it was 4 years ago. It looks great.

Amazing growth. Great photo. We must have one of the largest, if not the largest "edge cities" in the USA.

Downtown Houston 2025 Master Plan

My daughter loved going there. I couldn't stand the place. Maybe that's why my daughters liked it so much. -
TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
Twinsanity02 replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
The TMC website depicts a 'double helix" of sorts ( not to be too pedantic, but it is lacking all the Nitrogenous bases having only the sugar phosphate backbone). Okay that was pedantic, nevertheless there is a sort of double helix depicted. So what is this about no double helix?- 1,229 replies

Well I hope you all who carry on about "extending the skyline" ( like me) are happy. With this and all the planned construction in Midtown it's going to look amazing.

Some of those folks are going to have a great nighttime view of the skyline. Same for the apartments going up on the east side of 288. a little scotch, music, and great view.

We can call the areas with high concentrations of homeless NoDough as august 948 suggests and the areas with the big banks MoDo, and areas that flood as LoDo. I especially like the suggestion of DoDo.

One Market Square: Proposed Office Tower For Block 43 - 800 Preston St.

One ugly parking garage down and then another not quite as ugly parking garage goes up, like an ugly wart. I also hope they build what they said they will, but am getting a bad feeling about this. I try to ignore it while eating gyros and look at the Hines buildings going up.- 989 replies

American Meteorological Society July 2018, article by Philip Klotzbach et al. No increase in US Landfalling hurricane frequency nor intensity since the 1880's. Vecchi and Knutson Geophysical Fluid Dynamic Laboratory, NOAA: No increase in Atlantic Tropical Storms from 1878 to 2006. So what has increased? Huge population growth, increase property loss, and increase media coverage.

Drewery Place: Multifamily High-Rise At 2850 Fannin St.
Twinsanity02 replied to Urbannizer's topic in Midtown
The previously named District II is planned for 631 feet in height. Extapolating from the Marriott Marquis this hotel would be around 670 to 680 feet. Can't imagine this is a major problem.- 1,569 replies

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
Twinsanity02 replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
I worked as a biomedical researcher for several years at UT Med- Houston. There are zillions of research labs spread out throughout the TMC. I am somewhat confused about how this one will be set up. Are there going to be a smattering of labs from UT Med, MD Anderson, Baylor Med, the Institute for Molecular Med, Texas A&M etc etc? I suppose the research will be focused on specific areas. Anyone know?- 1,229 replies

Brava: 46-Story Residential High-Rise At 414 Milam St.
Twinsanity02 replied to brijonmang's topic in Going Up!
You are correct TheSirDingle. If The District construction goes according to plan, The Preston will hold the title for a short period of time before it is overtaken by The District at 82 feet greater. The Preston will be the tallest downtown but not in the city. Glory is sometimes short lived.- 1,067 replies

The Travis: Multifamily High-Rise At 3300 Main St.
Twinsanity02 replied to Urbannizer's topic in Midtown
My impression is that Houston used to be fairly "recession proof"in years past. We had recessions in the 50's and 70's which did not effect the city much in terms of growth. The Oil bust effected Houston, but not the country as a whole. I don't believe the national recession of the early 90's had much impact here. My point is recessions can be national or regional, and in the past it is the regional recessions which have impacted us the most. So I haven't a clue what a national recession would cause here.- 604 replies

I worked at TMC for 22 years. One advantage the UH Med School will most likely have in its location, is much better parking. Parking at TMC is expensive and if your cheapskate like me, a long walk.

My dream has been for a meteor to crash into it at 3:00 am when no one is around and it all tumbles down into a very neat pile. No gets hurt. No traffic blocked. Don't really expect that to happen, but heck, one can dream. -
