  1. It is a beautiful highrise. Very elegant. Not taking sides on this. Don't want to set urban loving haifers off. Just saying some folks in the posh houses in the area may not like having a highrise near them. South and North Blvds have some beautiful older houses with large yards. Very enjoyable area to stroll. Honestly, I do not know what legal leg the opposition can stand on. There are highrises going up everywhere and as far as I know there are no deed restrictions against this sort of thing. I suspect all they can do is fighting a delaying action.
  2. Very impressive. With the other two adjacent high rises and 3300 Main, these all will create an affluent urban feel to what use to be a wasteland in the 1990's
  3. It would be an unpleasant surprise if Mr. McNair greatly downgraded the former renditions. He is a Houston resident since 1960. My guess is he wants to leave a significant legacy in the city.
  4. I am a little confused by the use of the Borghese name. The house of Borghese is one of the oldest in Europe. Is this company associated with the family or can anyone use the name?
  5. Here are a few suggestions: Revolting, Hideous, Vomitous ( if it's a word), Repellent, Loathsome, Nauseous. That's my impression if I glance at it while downing a Gyro at the park.
  6. I don't know the cause of this. Lived in Houston > 30 years. Have traveled throughout the world. Houston is a very dynamic and cosmopolitan city by any measure. It is a somewhat odd city with three different ecosystems ( Gulf Coast, Piney Woods, and Prairie like) and is the border where English fades as the dominant language spoken at homes to Spanish. Has a huge Asian population which one does not expect. Unlike Atlanta or Dallas it is a bit of a border city. For such a huge and growing metropolis it is quiet and unassuming compared to others. Maybe because we don't have glamour industries. Yet it still erupts in population. I've seen the movers and shakers try to come up with clever slogans and other image promotions. Nothing stuck. Houston is enigmatic.
  7. I would think so. That is what the article states. There is one under construction ( 328 feet) and two planned at 544 and 630 feet.
  8. I enjoy your postings Mr. Bear. Being the father of twins I find the competition between Houston and Dallas familiar. There is no "primate city" in Texas as in New York, Georgia, or Illinois which leads to rivalry. The two metro areas are very dynamic, bursting and at the seams, and many similarities. A great deal of beautiful architecture is going up in both. Architecture is what attracted me to Haif in the first place. I go to other websites to see architecture of other great cities.
  9. If and when this goes up that makes six high rises in the immediate downtown either at various stages of construction or highly possible: W hotel, Capitol Tower, Block 58, Camden Conte, the Marlowe, and highly probable Block 42. Go Houston.
  10. Isn't this area and Greenway Plaza approximately 1.5 miles apart? May meet in the not too distant future. The way potential midtown developments ( three Aussie and 3300 Main and many more I hope) may soon visually connect downtown to the Med Center.
  11. It would be very surprising if a tower of this caliber with Bank Of America as a major anchor having a cheap looking exposed parking garage. I'm sure it will be covered in time.
  12. Perhaps the black and white rendering are block 58 and block 42 juxtapositioned to each other. I dunno.
  13. Didn't make the statement clear. I meant two potentially going up, two going up, and one already up (2016 Main ?)
  14. With this and the three going up by the Australian developer, I count five high rise apartment buildings on Main Street midtown. All in a short time span. Quite amazing.
  15. Just guessing. Affluence begets affluence? Nearby Theater district, Entertainment venues, Ballpark, Discovery Green, Buffalo Bayou and parks . Rail access to Museum district. Two new highrise apartments have attracted an affluent base which is now being added on to. I find it attractive except for the fact I have children. Too expensive.
  16. It is next to Market Square Park. It is "south" of the new highrise apartment tower I believe called Market square Tower. Currently it is occupied by an ugly parking garage.
