  1. Could one write a letter to City Hall for a serious proposal to have this area designated as the Parking District?
  2. 800 Bell - Condos. Would renovate the roof to allow more sunlight in for a pool where the petroleum club was. Days Inn/Heaven on Earth - Ed Wulfe threw out a rendering a few years ago that looked really snazzy with a fresh glass curtain and modern design. Great Southwest Building - 5 Star Boutique Hotel, new paint job on the green roof, and restore it to glory.
  3. Looks a little small. A shame it could not be built in the theater district.
  4. Have you seen any renderings? Care to drop some hints? Is it going to be office?
  5. It's an old design before the great real estate bubble busting stock market plunging go go year of 2007.
  6. I thought I had read somewhere the Royal Sonesta was a modern take on brutalist.. Maybe I made that up in my head. It even has some rusty/water drainage stains on it. Looks cold like a bunker in Russia. I knew the Four Seasons was built in the 1980's but it has a very 60's resort feel to it. I'm also surprised by the Federal Building, as it reminds me of a commie block. Thank you for your answers, as I have truly lost touch. Edit: So I guess this is just post-modern? This is the Hotel I was speaking of.
  7. *Moody* UH Law Center: Federal Building: Alley: I don't have a picture but there is a Holiday Inn that is 13 floors on the far west side of Town that is sort of brutalist. The following are questionable to me, so architecture buffs help me out. Are they considered Brutalist? I know they are more functionally brutalist... Med Center Four Seasons? Intercontinental/Royal Sonesta? Melrose? I know the panels were a lighter blue when originally built.. And for you HAIF history buffs.... What was this structure?
  8. The Moddy Towers have awesome views from the dorms. The Dorms are pretty awful though.
  9. Bravo on creating the gifs. The future is now!
  10. It's a conspiracy. I blame Jax... He's Canadian. The video clearly disses the current Houston condo market, showing 3333 Allen Parkway, Mosaic Towers, Four Leaf Towers, and the Cosmopolitian, and 2727 Kirby.
  11. I got from the video that those are other properties they built. Although a bit odd they didn't show any renderings for Houston.
  12. There is no official entrance to Downtown, other than this weathered concrete structure. I think most of the people exiting off I-10/45 HOV that see this sign are commuters. It's a ugly intersection as the roads completely cover/block out the sun on the Bayou. Things might change when we see more people living Downtown.
  13. Would most of the building on U of H be considered Brut? I think the fact that most people don't understand/like brutalist is half the charm.
  14. I listen to the Exotica/Lounge station on pandora at work. I discovered a Houston native - Kate Edmonson, her cover of "Summertime" is awesome if you like jazzy/lounge music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M2Z23BPOtw I tried looking her on up on social media but it seems she is in the shadows.
  15. Typical Houston project. I'm not at all complaining about how it looks now (still great), it's just funny how the angle of the "Crown continuously lowered until finally zeroing out.
  16. Myabe it's the angle but the stage seems to be off... I'll have to check it out in person.
  17. I enjoy the simplicity and era they represent. It's a shame when developers want to erase the facades and turn them into something that's popular now. I don't get why they wouldn't just use that money to make the interiors state of the art, and really set it above the competition. Give the market something it's never seen before. The styles we're seeing built (interior, don't get me started on the exteriors), around Houston are nothing new. Europe and the East Coast have had these for years now. Maybe I'm ignorant so hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me. Are potential renters more concerned with how the building looks from the outside or from the inside?
  18. I meant the project in general. I believe the original plans IIRC were from 2003.
