  1. Dang can we at least wait until the product is finished before we start complaining already. It's better than what was there before or what it's replacing! Sheesh! all these glass is half empty people.
  2. Yeah but as i said in another post, this city seems to be over-doing the park/tree thing. I want to see more urban storefronts and walkable areas. Why does it seem that all these others cities such as Atlanta, Dallas, and Denver can create nice urban mixed use developments with storefronts and retail why Houston just chooses the cheap and boring route? I do not want this city to be just filled with parks everywhere. This city seems to be already developing a mindset to me that it's okay just throwing up a boring park on every block instead of adding more mixed use and other things to the city flavor. My rant has nothing to do with this project, in fact, I think its a great project. I guess your post just brought out how I feel the many minds of this city and the park thing seems to be the direction this city is going. I want to see more Post Midtown Squares, Hanover Rice Villages, Mix @ Midtowns. Don't get me wrong, I think Parks are great, but I don't want that to be the city's only solution to development. You can go to a park anywhere in the boring suburbs. Why must the "city" be filled with them?
  3. But on the other hand, I forgot, this is Houston. Things like that don't happen here like that. LOL. Cool design though!
  4. I'm also worried about the retail kiosks that LargeTX mentioned of. They don't appear to be in the latest rendering.
  5. This would be so cool if midtown Houston could land this.
  6. I don't like the park idea. It seems that's what the city is doing all over. Let's just put a park here. Midtown Superblock idea is now just a park. It seems like a boring idea. Discovery Green was a great idea because it replaced the parking lots that were there before, but when they start talking about doing this in all places, it makes it seem quite drab. Why not something a little more exciting? Like the intermodal station idea with an outdoor public gathering plaza, the largest hotel idea, the indoor ski resort, and what the hell ever happened to the movie studio idea of 2009/2010 timeframe? I guess a park is the next best thing from a parking lot though. I just don't want all of our landmark areas to be parks. Pretty soon, we're going to be know as graseland city. Parks can be overdone too!
  7. So it sounds to me that they are trying to increase the downtown hotel occupancy rate at the expense of the residential rate. May appear to be good for the investor's sake, but like Kinkaid pointed out, there's a whole lot more variables involved. The monthly expenses of increased need of employees combined with the increased hotel competition does seem to cut into the profit margin quite a bit. It doesn't seem worth it. so where is that going to leave our downtown population? About at least 1,000 people less from the 4500 that was there before, including the inmates? That's going to make downtown even more less marketable place to live. I don't see the benefit in this.
  8. You had my hopes up with this post, but your attempt at sarcasm sucks when you're making it sound like this could be real.
  9. LODO Denver means lower downtown Denver. I wondered if they adopted these as a copy cat from Denver. Eado Houston sounds so overdone and plastic. Almost makes me think "Eat donut". I know its corny but its not meant to be funny. It's what i really think.
  10. I'm with brian. I'm just as confused. So is the earthquest idea just a memory?
  11. Forgive me if this question has already been answered, but it just occured to me that he doesn't frequent this site like he did. He used to be a regular poster on here. He had the highest post count of any HAIF member and he's not on here as much.
  12. I honestly can't see them opening up a location in midtown when they're going to be opening this one which would only be 2-3 miles apart. I hope they do becuase Midtown could really use a new concept like this. But maybe if they decide not to, they can make use of the new park and at least do the outdoor movie nights like they're planning at RS and already doing at DG.
  13. The results can be viewed at the link below by clicking on 2013 Downtown Houston Shoppng survey link (the first one) http://www.downtownhouston.org/search/?q=downtown+survey
  14. Oh ok. That makes sense. I think i'm guilty of looking at one area and thinking its working everywhere. I thought i saw those areas with storefronts everywhere in Uptown Dallas Thanks Red.
  15. I was following you until this one here! The bar scene has somewhat fallen off in the last 3 years. All of the clubs off of Main Street went black. If anything, the bar scene has taken a few steps back. Houston Pavilions and Bayou Place have their areas of activity, but Main Street at least showed some signs of continuity. I hope they can do something to bring it back. BTW. This is my 200th post. I'm a baaddd boyy!!! LOL
  16. What i don't understand is why ground level retail is not a problem in Dallas's downtown and surrounding areas? The population around downtown Dallas is actually less than or equal to Houston's surrounding downtown population.
  17. I will say that the lighting in downtown has improved, but it still comes up short. As i've said, there are areas that are lit, but they are too far and between to where it doesn't look vibrant.
  18. You think midtown has caught Uptown DallasIn terms of population? What about density?
  19. what??? I noticed those things. I also noticed the lucky strike bowling pin on the Pavilions. I guess what i'm saying is the lighted areas could be more consistent. Phoenicia is great, Pepper Jacks is great, but these areas are spread out from one another. I didn't share my ideas on this forum for me to have to defend them. I was simply suggesting ways to increase visibility downtown, thus drawing in more crowds.
