I sort of know that area I guess. That's my "shortcut" from the UC to the Satellite. Although I do not remember it being too open.

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
WesternGulf replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
There are a lot of old buildings in the vicinity of Texaco, but what is the building with the construction crater on the northwest end of the block? I cannot remember if I was walking by the Texaco building or something else. -
I admit I have never stepped a toe on this side of campus so I am not that familiar with how the building lies. Is this close to the Satellite?

That area is all out of whack now bordering the construction site. The street is the sidewalk now. You might catch me struggling to walk on the sidewalks in that area since I am always at my brother's place. As far as traffic, too many alternatives to get to this place. Hopefully that reflects with the construction and parking is not a HUGE priority. By the way topics can probably be merged with original.

One Park Place: Multifamily At 1400 McKinney St.
WesternGulf replied to GovernorAggie's topic in Downtown
Sorry for getting off topic but this is Texas. Although 288 has evolved to be a highway that is needed it was layed down to cater to the burbs. Guess what was there before? More congestion in Texas does not mean you look for alternatives such as commuter rail, but freeway expansions or the "progressive approach", for Texas standards, HOV lanes. Great news about the tower by the way.- 989 replies

Just don't complain when people need more freeway space to get into town to taper off your neighborhood.- 989 replies

Great shots and thanks for the compliment. Don't be surprised if you see some of your shots in my threads. Haha. You HAVE to tell me where you were on this one.

UofH could easily become my favorite part of the city if it keeps these cutting edge designs up with its 20 year plan. The development is progressing quickly and it should be interesting to keep an eye on it as I grow old.

Those are on the borger of the Musseum District and Midtown directly south of 59 near the Wheeler Station line. I believe the last ones are on the corner of Caroline and Blodgett. -

Hey I saw one of these at Greenbriar and University this week. -
Maybe they can be landmarks along the sidewalks, if those can ever be improved and widened. I would love to see modern design townhomes, the actual good ones, contrast with those old signs along the sidewalk. I think that would look pretty cool.
-
As far as the signs, The Thrifty Terms, Clark Motors, and 2019, those should be saved, but they do not make for a pretty streetscape. Think 1970's and 80's Westheimer. They seem more like memorabilia that can be used.

You're asking the wrong person, but I am assuming it is because of the price of land. Isn't land on the rail line in Midtown around $50 per square foot? -

It seems like they are on schedule. Th three lots will be closed at the end of today. -
It's OK but it has GREAT potential as a street that leads into downtown Houston. It is home to my favorite hood in Houston, the Sixth Ward which is where that Corkscrew pic was taken. The pics seem very selective in the 002 article. Most of the places are destinations along the corridor, not too consistent yet.

Panasonic DMC FZ7 That is the Camden City Center on the border of Midtown and Fourth Ward. Next door to the Edge Condominiums that are going up in between the Camden and Post Midtwn Square. -

I think this project is a go. Several of the employees my mom works with park in those three lots. She received an email today that they can no longer park there and will have to look for alternative parking. -
Regent Square: Mixed-Use On Allen Parkway At Dunlavy St.

I was thinking the same thing. Kirby is a hell of a lot more narrow than Richmond and Kirby through RO wouldn't have it. Probably even on Shepherd which is too narrow also.- 1,536 replies

It would be nice if something hit the Village. PT sucks out there and there is only one "quick" bus. I say they need to start another line coming from that rail yard at the Fannin South Station and hit Kirby to the Village and try to make its way up Shepherd to Washington to hit the Intermodal Transit Center on the Near Northside.- 1,536 replies

Pretty cool. Although I am sure that will give several people the creeps of someone flying like a bat out of hell on the ground coming from a hole.
