  1. I have been keeping my eye on this for awhile. I would easily live at this place if I could afford it. The part that fronts the bayou is gorgeous.
  2. 3. The Galleria area and vicinity stretching to the west side is probably the center of Houston's populaton density. From an urban standpoint, density does not always equal urban. The areas that hug the Strand in Galveston are probably the most urban areas in the whole metropolitan area. No "dense" garden style apartment complexes or stucco/metal live above garage townhomes required.
  4. I didn't. I just thought it would blend in with the rest of the TMC skyline silhouette. Unless it is suppose to be slightly shorter than St Lukes. I think I made the Memorial Hermann Plaza taller than it really is though, but then again Calpine looks shoter than St Lukes eventhough the TMC and downtown are pretty much aligned. Oh well, I guess my mild form of OCD is messing with me.
  5. Not even close. If it were that I would have moved a long time ago, even if it were a cheap knock off of SF. I like Keep Houston Ugly
  6. Off topic, but speaking of the devil, I just so happened to run into your Houston and DC photo gallery with no intentions jdbaker.
  7. Riverside Terrace and Washington Terrace are not as bad as the rest of Third Ward. My grandma has lived in the area for 18 years and the only crime she has had was Christmas gifts taking out of her car, but I am not going to act like that there are not worse crimes that may occur more frequently. The west side of 288 is pretty nice and for the most part safer than the east side but they don't have the greater housing stock, I am assming you are speaking of all the brick bungalows, like the east side of 288. My aunt rented a place on Arbor Street I believe east of 288 and has never had a crime surface on her property while she lived there, but in Third Ward there are areas that are night and day and some parts are on pretty high elevation which helped my aunt during Tropical Storm Allison.
  8. But you have to admit the "in Houston it can be a blow to ones ego to have someone pass them."
  9. I somewhat agree with MiDTOWNeR. It is just that if someone is critical or critiques the city that usually means the city can go straight to hell. Not true. Although I am looking forward to House of Blues, I hope it does not become a "tourist trap" business like Hard Rock. Although I cannot say I have met any "ghetto" people there.
  10. I also think they need to go ahead and plop down a kitchen appliance store in there somewhere, but something a little more affordable than Williams Sonoma. I think it will benefit the residents in downtown, even if we only have just under 4,000. Then again, are there really any affordable appliance stores these days? For some reason I wouldn't think a Crate & Barrel would work either.
  11. I doubt this is a project where a whole department store would locate to or any luxury brands like Prada....and yes I meant good in front of burritos.
  12. Retailers I would love to see at Pavilions: Diesel Virgin Niketown Express Women and Men (need some decent priced jeans) Borders H&M (I don't wear it but people keep talking about it) A good burrito joint A store that sells a wide array of athletic shoes (Journey's possibly eventhough they are all around the metro.)
  13. Exactly. I would love to see a Virgin & Niketown at Pavilions and like you said more stuff you cannot find around the metro area. American Apparel at the Sakowitz is a start. I rarely find myself at the Galleria and that is a choice rather than convenience.
  14. I don't mind stores that bring in people from outside downtown or from the burbs. Sort of like the House of Blues, but I would rather see some traditional retail such as soft goods retail like clothing stores rather than an M&M world and video game arcade facilities. If Pavilions were filled with the latter how satisfied would you be?
  15. I heard that the Gateway project may be up to three towers, so I guess we can picture two more towers in the pic.
  16. True but they are rarely used by the citizens of the community.
  17. Anybody think this building favors St Germain in some of the detailing?
  18. Those pics are mesmerizing. Wow, after how many years? Another historic building taken out of the skyline. What is taking its spot again eventhough the structure is surrounded by surface lots? Please don't say nothing. Just when I thought Houston put the brakes on these type of habits in downtown.
  19. It doesn't play everything and it doesn't play the things mainstream theaters play.
  20. Ditto. Those flags are overkill. Skyline District, Minute Maid Park District, Toyota Center District, Theater District, The new Main Street, George R Brown, next thing you know Houston Pavilions District.
