  1. Good answer but I will be surprised if we do not get the usual.
  2. Is it Alexan or Alexian? If so, is this it? http://www.ediarchitecture.com/multifamily/alexankirby.html
  3. I forgot the name of the one they have on Times Blvd in the Village, but it sonds like another one of those. The one in the Village is out of Brooklyn I believe. edit: ok found it, here it is. pretty cool store. http://premiumgoods.net/
  4. The project was not renamed to Alta. Alta is the name of the Residential towers. It's kind of like if Camden were developing the apartments they would be called Camden Pavilions. Alta has apartments on Almeda also.
  5. That's sounds like a lot of space. Hopefully they will have a decent amount of room for soft goods retail.
  6. Fortunately areas like University Oaks are quiet as far as developers coming in. There are a couple of McMansions that have tried to squeeze in between some cottage style bugalows but that is bout it. I think the area being a secret is best in my opinion. My grandmother just recently moved out of the neighborhood to Austin for retirement.
  7. Usually the largest metro areas have the lively downtowns. NYC, Boston, San Fran, DC, LA the exception, Chicago and Philly. Houston is really like the 10th or 11th largest city in the nation.
  8. I doubt this will continue with the mixed use concept. The urban Costco in Vancouver, BC was described as a challenge. If anything, the architect will go with the laissez-faire style of development in Houston.
  9. Bingo, but I already see some signs on lots for strip centers by JETALL.
  10. I may be late, but looks like a Nestle Tollhouse Cafe is opening up on the SW corner of Main at Capitol and some sub shop. Anyone remember the name? Ya know where Logan's use to sit. Also has anyone tried that Hiccups place?
  11. To be honest, I thought this thread was about the EDGE, but you are right about the lack of retail in the area atleast for the residents that have been in and are moving into the Fourth Ward. From the map, it still seems like retail is the last thing this developer would be worried about. The streets are just to narrow in the area, and retail usually lies on commercial streets such as Gray and West Dallas, while everything in between is residential. Plus the streets are just too narrow for that type of traffic unless it will be geared exclusively towards walkers. Yeah right. Also, regarding the Camden, I must say I now see where musicman is coming from. Not too many people who live in the sea of Urban Lofts and new townhomes popping up in the Fourth Ward are going to walk in the area. It's sad, but we have to stop being so p.c. It is not once in a blue moon that you have an encounter with someone you really do not want to deal with in that area. The best hope for residents in the fourth ward regarding walkable retail is West Dallas. Off topic, but here is a pretty cool pic of the area. Kind of dark.
  12. Are we talking about the same development here? Isn't this Camden project really the location for the Edge at 300 St Joseph? I do not believe they're apartments either.
  13. These are no where near the area you are speaking of. I believe it is literally across the street from the Post. That said, retail is really not needed at this development. Ther are restaurant options, convenient stores, coffee shops, and cleaners all along that stretch on Gray located at the Post that even the average Houstonian could walk to from this development. The Post Midtown expansion may even be mixed use.
  14. This may be a little extreme but I notice it everytime I see the commercial. I forgot what company it was for but has anyone seen a commercial with Park IV and V buildings on Montrose shown from the outside at night and there are like three or four people on a couch watching TV for something? It was far from a local commercial if you all were wondering.
  15. Wow. If that list of tenants is true, what happened with the soft goods retail? We have enough of the lunch crowd stuff in DT.
  16. Yeah and that Ben & Jerry's at the Rice opened yesterday. Obvious probably to the Downtownn employees on HAIF who saw the long lline for free ice cream on Texas Avenue.
  17. Yes, that is where I assumed most of the money went. It is still kind of funny that the hotel cost more than the neighboring Toyota Center.
  18. I am still surprised how large this project is for the price. Didn't the Hilton Americas alone cost just under 300 million?
