  1. That's sounds like a lot of space. Hopefully they will have a decent amount of room for soft goods retail.
  2. Yeah but you couldn't tell just by the title. http://www.houstonarchitecture.info/haif/i...?showtopic=5891
  3. Oh goodness. You would think.....
  4. That's really nice. Nice mix of updates and what looks to be original finishes.
  5. Fortunately areas like University Oaks are quiet as far as developers coming in. There are a couple of McMansions that have tried to squeeze in between some cottage style bugalows but that is bout it. I think the area being a secret is best in my opinion. My grandmother just recently moved out of the neighborhood to Austin for retirement.
  6. Usually the largest metro areas have the lively downtowns. NYC, Boston, San Fran, DC, LA the exception, Chicago and Philly. Houston is really like the 10th or 11th largest city in the nation.
  7. Phoenix may be the exception, but contrary to popular belief, Atlanta and Dallas does have greater control of how the core of their city is developed. I am not saying every development that has taken place has the pedestrian in mind, but what would places like the West End, Deep Ellum, Knox Henderson, Greenville Avenue, and many other places in central Dallas look like if they were located in Houston? Would plans such as the West Village or the many projects for Uptown even come to fruition if the land wasn't regulated. Intown ATL has identity. Some of those century old retail districts are still pretty lively among some of its older neighborhoods and developers respect that. I do not even think places like Denver and Portland need to be in this topic. By the way, didn't 002 magazine have an article about the apathetic attitude when it comes to developing in this city compared to other cities such as Atlanta. I think CVS was the focus in that article.
  8. Do you realize how much NO ZONING influences how a city is built no matter how many neighborhood organizations you have? You will get a huge bite me from developers.
  9. I do not think anyone is complaining mostly about the CVS or any business that enters the Houston market but more of how the land is used and how the design does not service the pedestrian. There should not be a reason why someone walks three full blocks in midtown and the maximum number of businesses they pass up are three on what are suppose to be "fully developed" blocks.
  10. Also, it is not uncommon for a middle aged man to be older than everything in Uptown.
  11. I doubt this will continue with the mixed use concept. The urban Costco in Vancouver, BC was described as a challenge. If anything, the architect will go with the laissez-faire style of development in Houston.
  12. Since this board is pretty politically balanced, I hope the results mirror the actual race. I'm surprised that many Houstonians are not supporting Bell. While I say Bell does not have a chance, I may give him my vote, even though it may be a "waste".?.?
  13. Bingo, but I already see some signs on lots for strip centers by JETALL.
  14. Garden Oaks is pretty sweet. I cannot believe how well kept the older homes are and they are at great prices.
  15. I have to admit that I have envied a lot of Dallas architecture lately but those model renderings seem a lot different from what I have seen earlier.
  16. It might be Dick Cheney. The Daily Cougar said he was going to be in Houston this week to raise money for Sekula Gibbs race in District 22.
  17. It just sounds like people think a lot of Midtown represents Gray Street between Bagby and Helena.
  18. I may be late, but looks like a Nestle Tollhouse Cafe is opening up on the SW corner of Main at Capitol and some sub shop. Anyone remember the name? Ya know where Logan's use to sit. Also has anyone tried that Hiccups place?
  19. Can anyone now see the full potential with this development? I still have not been out to this place, but this Sawyer Heights development could have done some damage, in a good way.
