  1. could this be for Occidental, or is there space in Greenway 3 & 5 for them to expand? Occidental Petroleum Company is moving their HQ to Houston! http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2014/02/14/occidental-petroleum-splintering-and-moving-its.html
  2. Don't get your hopes up for this one.. Unless they line up some secret tenant we don't know about it seems unlikely this go round with all the other construction soon to be underway (capital, Hines, maybe 6hc)
  3. oh wow, hadnt seen that one before. the midtown project is definitely what i was thinking of. it says 23 acres, but looks like its just one downtown block.. how can that be? i cant seem to manage to match the background towers to an area in downtown. it would definitely be a neat development none the less..
  4. Haha I doubt it. That's the midtown project right? I can only see one rendering on their site when on my phone.. I thought that was from 2008 or so and other projects have since been built on this land?
  5. Yeah I thought so too. I guess it was kind of obvious where the office tower and boutique hotel would go, but it's nice to have proof that they do in fact own the lots
  6. That section of street doesn't serve much purpose besides serving as a place to do u turns from Lamar over to Dallas, so getting rid of it won't effect much. I still say that's most likely retail along the bottom of the garage on main. Idk why they would have the cut out/overhang like that with the big clear windows just to see into a parking garage..
  7. haha yes.. i suppose your right. anyways i still hope they dont go down the 290/6 route with a stop in college station, and instead opt for the red or blue lines down 249 or 45. strange they mentioned in that most recent article that the line options were 290, 45, and 59 though.. i havent seen/heard anything about a potential route down 59.
  8. heres the presentation from the Main Street Improvements meeting.. about 2/3rds the way down under Main Street Square: Improvements it talks about closing the block in front of Block 256, and has aerial renderings of what the closed off block would look like. http://downtownhouston.org/site_media/uploads/attachments/2014-02-07/140203-Main_St-Public_Mtg_Presentation-SM.pdf
  9. alright, i guess thats not bad at all.. just sounds awfully slow compared to cars nowadays...
  10. what do you mean no one ever noticed it lockmat? as for the "ground floor retail" i mentioned in the quote, yeah that was just my assumption because it looked like store fronts and people walking around the area, and i know the city wanted that intersection to be retail on all four corners.
  11. for sure, i was just saying no stops in reference to the 2 mph gain per second acceleration speed of the train when it starts up (and probably a similar deceleration rate when it slows down).. i would assume they will just run one track in each direction. if they insisted on having stops somewhere along the way for the occasional trip, they could branch off the track to double track just at the local station.
  12. actually at the Main Street planning agenda meeting or w/e the thread in the downtown subforum was started about, they talked about closing that section of Main St several times.. and is there not retail along the Main side of the garage?
  13. yeahh.. definitely no stops in College Station or The Woodlands, or anywhere else between the two cities for that matter.. still wouldnt mind seeing an extension to Galveston but i dont see them needing nearly as many train cars for that route.
  14. yeah what is up with the line up this year? pretty weak it seems like. or maybe im just not as in touch with the music scene as i used to be..
  15. damn.. poor Cosmopolitan.. first Five Oaks Place, now this.. they soon they wont have a view except for the narrow sides facing east and west. i know its conceptual, but its neat to see them place a tall building like that on this plot. was this proposed as all office space?
  16. The Feds have one shown on their high speed rail map, but I haven't heard much of it.. I don't see that having nearly as high a ridership as any of the Texas lines.
  17. Either way it definitely would of put a dent in their business, and most can agree southwest would rather focus on long distance trips now than regional flights.
  18. Yeah, I figured blue was obviously the most optimal. Red is not far behind though. I didn't realize they had a route in mind between 45 and 290/6
  19. I wouldn't be opposed to the red line, but the green line is just dumb..
  20. according to a few places Southwest would support high speed rail this time. i even just read that at the time of the last push for high speed rail in the early 90s that southwest was confined to only IN state flights.. no where outside of Texas. so of course they opposed the hell out of the T bone or w/e plan it was they were proposing to connect all the major metros in the state. it would of put them out of business. thats not the case anymore and supposably southwest wouldnt mind getting out of the regional game..
  21. heres another quote about Southwest supporting HSR this time.. is it true the regional routes are money losing now? i know regional was how Southwest got started.. "Southwest Airlines, for one, has made it clear that there are huge advantages for them to have high-speed rail built in California. Among the advantages Southwest sees is that high-speed rail will allow them to get out of the money-losing, overly congested regional air service business."
  22. wait. i was wrong on which corner that was (just noticed greenstreet in the background), but still, i would think it would probably be the pad site for the crane.
  23. i understand, and i should of reworded my post, because frankly i wouldnt care if they built a tower on this plot in the energy corridor, it would just be more visually striking to see a skyscraper out there than a cluster of 12 story boxes that blend in with everything else.. even a couple neat 20 something story buildings with a few skybridges, but i guess they didnt want to make a statement. ah well, the walk across campus is better for the employees rather than taking an elevator in a tower. sorry, i let my skyscraper aficionado mentality take over in my posts sometimes.. i realize we cant have skyscrapers everywhere.
  24. could it be the pad site for the crane? thats the corner for the fountain/plaza area so there wont be any structure there that the crane could get in the way of.
  25. the very last paragraph in the article cinco quoted said this.. "Because of the infancy of the project’s planning, a clear timetable was not made available, however, Gonzalez estimated that if construction on the Mexico side began in 2016, it could be completed within three years." so 2019 at the earliest. but thats just the mexican side.. not the american side. the Houston Dallas rail line is planned to open around 2021. either way its great Texas is finally looking like it will get high speed rail service..
