  1. The three structures at the top of the rendering, by 288 look to me like residential structures.
  2. @j-cuevas713 No doubt a grocery store here, anywhere near here or in the Second Ward, would be well used by several underserved communities. Classic food desert situation. And, I do trust that Midway is doing all they can to land a major grocery store at East River. If they were to, the rest of the retail space would lease itself. But, as they have indicated in the past, at our neighborhood meetings (East Bayou District), the population and demographic numbers weren't there yet. However, that was a couple years ago.
  3. The large Commercial Reserve at the corner of Clinton & Jensen would be the obvious location of a grocery store/apartment stack. The lack of any other details for this plot is conspicuous. My feeling is that there just are not enough local residents to support a major grocer just yet. One The Laura, The Mill, another possible Marquette building, others projects on the other side of Jensen, not to mention the ongoing townhouse farms north of Clinton and south of the bayou are all built and occupied, then we might see a grocery store here. Might be about 4 to 5 years, however.
  4. Wow, Urb. Lot's of meaty nuggets in this: https://issuu.com/midway2/docs/210126_junior_achievement_rfp_response/6?ff Aside from the Junior Achievement pitch, there is a list of prospective retail tenants and restaurants including Common Bond, Urban Eats, Southerleigh (From San Antonio), a Creek Group outlet, etc... a Par-3 Golf course & Driving Range and Ice House on the eastern end of the property... Awesome!
  5. Hot Dang! Here we go. A curious little thing is taking place close to the center of the site, near Bayou Street. Two 20ft containers were placed side-by-side and welded together to form a 20ft x 16ft room. Large doors on the 20ft sides open-up completely so both sides can be completely open. The room is insulated, paneled, and climate controlled. Inside is a stylish little set-up, with table, chairs, couch, coffee table, etc... Conference lounge. It is not a construction trailer and there are not any Port-a-lets. I think that it must be place for Midway to bring prospective clients. The whole little set-up, is just curious and quite elaborate. It's just interesting.
  6. When They developed that hotel, they always knew that this would happen. Will Love the new view from Disco Green. This is just what was needed here.
  7. The Plan is to add a W Hotel to the top of the Houston First building downtown.
  8. Is that even a question? I'm quite sure that they now how memorial park floods more that anybody else of the planet.
  9. ^^ The Houston Endowment has awarded a $10 million grant to help launch the Tony Moran Park, Japhet Creek and Turkey Bend Wharf projects along BBP’s eastern sector plan. The money also will go towards stabilizing the banks on the bayou to preserve trail connections and prevent further erosion (I can hear the pile drivers as I type). There is design work on going for the Park(Van Valkenburgh) , the Creek (Asakura Robinson) and The Wharf, which the grant is likely to spite further investment/grant interest in. Final design proposals for these projects are expected next summer.
  10. Memory Trip. By grandmother's room was right under the "Big Al" on the floor plan...but her name was Mary. 🙂
  11. If ever there was an intersection in Houston where a roundabout was warranted, it is here. Here combined with the Canal/Navigation intersection is more consistently frustrating than any other one-two combo I can think of.
  12. I’ve been watching this barge a for the past couple weeks. looks to me like they are just improving the South bank of the bayou where they has been some erosion. I don’t think that this is work on a pedestrian bridge.
  13. Oh. Unlike Astrodome or the Galleria, I guess. And “Once originated”? Makes my eye twitch.
  14. "Change is in the Air!" Suggests that there will be some height to the change.
  15. I think maybe I’ll judge by looking past the first weekend. Surely there’ll be some opening glitches, that can be ironed out.
  16. On page 54 of the document, there is a reference to an expansion of the GRB, at the northeast corner of the building. This is shown a couple places in the graphic plans, regarding the cap park. I’m sure it’s preliminary, but a couple years ago, there was a commission awarded to connect/open up the east side of the center, in some way. I bet that this is it. http://www.downtowntirz.com/downtownhouston/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/08-11-20-Board-Book-FINAL.pdf
  17. Is it gravel or is it crushed granite? Big difference in the quality of the riding surface. If it is just a temporary fix, and it is crushed granite, then it's no big deal. I'd ride on the grass before I'd take my chances on the gravel.
  18. Sam - True that blocks will be lost in Eado and a few of those blocks are presently built upon. But, East End isn't an ultimate looser in the deal. EADO will lose the barrier of an elevated Highway and most likely gain significant green space and build-able real estate, as envision in the latest plans. The cap-park, could be a real connector and it also appears that the GRB, would now have an East Facing entrance on the north end, further connecting the east to downtown/convention distinct. Regarding Clayton Homes, most of this was deeply flooded in Harvey and the units are planned to be replaced in the area.
