  1. That's a bit of a stretch. That area is ripe for new development as property values Downtown continue to go up. The new hotel going up right behind the arena is a good indicator of this.
  2. Any pushback by the neighborhood? I'm hearing a lot on FB
  3. I think you need to take in to account that the building that was there before was not worth saving. Sure they could have renovated it, but this location has much more potential for something larger. In my opinion this is just the market cleaning up the unnecessary clutter. The good thing is they saved the historic little building and have plans to restore it. And a new hotel is going up right down the street replacing surface parking.
  4. I agree. A simple facade update and maybe some more elements around the building dedicated to the Rockets would be cool. A Rockets village would be nice.
  5. Yeah I read how they were expecting the arena to spur growth in that neighborhood but it didn't. I wonder if that massive parking lot had anything to do with it instead of building up and around the arena.
  6. Wow really? The arena they are in now isn't even that old. But in terms of Toyota Center, Fertitta has the money to do something he's just not.
  7. Then they can move and we can redevelop the land. Too many people live in this city looking for suburban life but this ain't the burbs and we need to quit treating it as such.
  8. If we continue building just for cars then yes it won't incentivize anyone to take transit, walk, or bike. It's all learned behavior just like anything else. It took me about 6 months to really get used to just taking transit and now I don't even have to think about it. Calling this area a car wash desert is crazy in my opinion.
  9. I'm not sure why anyone would hate the design of this. It's simple, clean, and it fits the area perfect.
  10. So apparently there is a lot of pushback because of the following.
  11. My only gripe about this is there won't be an entrance off the sidewalk. All of that area is landscaping which I think is a ridiculous use of the space.
  12. This is great infill, and it's going to have GFR. Density is the key if we want to see the kind of activity at street level we've always wanted.
  13. Urban Genesis has to be my favorite development group at the moment. They just seem to really understand what Houston needs and their designs are always great.
  14. Exploring as in possibly tearing it down if they can't find a use?
  15. Any word on the little building they plan to renovate?
  16. That parking garage is a waste. They could eliminate so much surface parking and meet minimums parking requirements. Partly because the city is just plain lazy. I joined Bike Houston to help clean up a section of bike path on Chartres St this weekend that took less than an hour. It makes you realize how much the city doesn't do.
  17. I'm so happy to see this little section of businesses changing for the better. Hopefully Jack In The Box is next.
  18. Except for the people who have to walk this area often, great density terrible maintenance. Upper Kirby Management District has a hard time keeping the area clean.
