  1. Is that an honest question? If you link 2 transit centers you allow for more flexibility to move as a pedestrian. Think about people living near either transit center wanting to get to Post Oak without a car. You can walk there but it defeats the purpose of making Post Oak more pedestrian friendly if you can't access it without a car. And are you that nearsighted to think that those developments are going to stay that way? I mean look at the bigger picture. 20 years down the road what you see now will change dramatically. And yes actually making the street more pedestrian friendly will change the entire aesthetic to the area, regardless of what's there now. Jesus. I almost fear that this is the way most Houstonians look at things because they fail to see the bigger picture. I mean if you need a sample size look at cities like NY for the best example of how transit helps businesses economically. If you rely on one source of transit and fail to give options then you literally cut the potential of that business. And besides that, THIS IS A MAJOR CITY. If you aren't building new options to move people, whether you think it's stupid or whatever, then you're behind. Because guess what? People are going to use it to get around. It's crazy because lot's of people said the same BS about the light rail and now you have developers using that as a tool draw people. Plain and simple, people need options. There's no fundamental problem with an Ashley's furniture that was built in an era that the car was the only option given to move people. Cities change and evolve for a reason and this isn't the Post Oak from 30 years ago.
  2. Umm what? It links 2 major transit centers in the heart of Uptown. And yeah I think it will become an urban paradise over time. Solid infrastructure will help spur redevelopment of those shopping centers that line the boulevard. The point of this project is better transit OPTIONS and pedestrian access to the street. Would you have said the same if it was light rail because both projects are basically doing the same thing? It's still the Gold Line either way. All that's missing is a link between this and the Red Line and you have a solid system that will connect well with our street buses.
  3. I can't believe Richmond Ave fell in to the game of politics. I live right on Richmond and 2 blocks away from the Wheeler TC. I can only imagine how convenient it would have been to hop on the train on Richmond.
  4. I think if anything there will be talks about BRT along Richmond. Once the BRT in Uptown is finished, the discussion will shift to how to connect it to the rest of the system.
  5. I could see them throwing a huge mural on Dallas St. side.
  6. Wow I like both of these buildings too smh
  7. Hahaha for real! Richmond could have been such a nice boulevard with the train. I haven't been in that area in a while. What new roads/sidewalks are they currently updating? Just curious
  8. I'm not a big fan of this area because the infrastructure is terrible for pedestrians. The new development is great but I hate how separated the Costco feels from this development. We need some damn sidewalks! Smh
  9. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Is it a full demo of the building or partial demo??????????
  10. This is where I feel you find a good common ground between preservation and new development.
  11. It really has and we can expect so much more for downtown in the next few years. Downtown isn't an afterthought anymore.
  12. Man that looks great! Idk how in the hell anyone in that area cold be opposed to this lol smh so dumb
  13. I just can't believe it's going to be 10 damn years. That all by itself pisses me off.
  14. Thank God. Drove down Caroline the other day and this will be an awesome pathway to downtown. It will really help develop this side of Midtown.
  15. While I love this park, it's no secret that 3rd Ward is rough! I drove thru today by TSU and idk where to begin. Emancipation Blvd is slowly looking better but I don't think I've seen as much trash and illegal dumping in any part of the city as I've seen here. Once you cross 45 South in to EaDo the whole neighborhood changes. Even empty lots in Eado look nicer. Is there some sort of 3rd Ward TIRZ???
  16. I guess I shouldn't have used the word conceptualize so loosely. Many of the engineers we deal with help us determine what's feasible. From the info we receive from them we build around that. We never show final imagery with many of the technical specs because it's unnecessary or it destroys the composition aesthetically.
  17. Before we make mock ups of anything we have to follow a set of guidelines based off the technical specs. In other words a company can't just send us pics or throw us an idea of what they want without us knowing exactly how it works. On our end we basically have to understand what the engineer has laid out before we can even conceptualize anything. Make sense now?
  18. Yes and no. At my company we usually receive all engineering plans and designs well before we try to conceptualize anything. Even if this is for some sort of emotional response from the artist, the technical side is usually left out because it's either distracting or simply boring. If the design has made it this far then I'd say what you see is what you get. Some elements are purely conceptual obviously but let's hope for the best. This is beautiful and urban.
