  1. What is across Sabine from this place? Is that also abandoned or is it apartments?
  2. I think that it’s been abandoned for many years. Used to be a club.
  3. It didn't work in Montrose either and I've almost never seen anybody at the Understory location.
  4. I think similar to Greenstreet - the success of the project in the near-term, and thereby the chances of those reserved parking lots getting the future towers, is somewhat predicated on having a built-in market which the towers could provide. I'm still really excited about the project but the towers would just make it cooler and more likely to succeed.
  5. I saw people are already tagging the new colorful support columns.
  6. Thanks s3mh, that's all great info. I went to Lanier and had a 6.5 mile bus ride which looks to be about the same distance from the area of the Heights that we are looking at so I'm familiar with that bus ride. It was long but you got in a good amount of time with your friends on the way.
  7. So nearly 10 years out from the last posts on this thread, have the Heights' schools significantly improved? I think Travis, Harvard, and Field are still ranked pretty well but have Hogg and Heights HS improved any or still about the same?
  8. I heard this a while back, like the first week of the shutdown. I loved the place and was a regular but I think there was always a problem with identity here. As honeymoon it looked like a classic cafe but they shut food down fairly early and tried to operate as a bar at night. The cafe feel just wasn’t conducive. When they rebranded to boomtown, they made it even less like a bar, shut down food earlier then still tried for evening crowds. It just never worked after about 2:00 each day. I think a more rounded design or a commitment to being either a cafe or a coffee shop or restaurant or bar would have made this more successful. I’ll miss it.
  9. Big issue right now is the massive homeless presence on the corner next to this building. Hopefully this helps with it. Got my renovation projects wrong, I was thinking this was the building next to the Hines Spiritual Center.
  10. Have we heard of its fate now that it is abandoned?
  11. I don’t hate the Arabella. I loved the initial renderings and think that the finished product has some ok features and some crap features. It isn’t bad overall but it is also far from good. I had hopes that it could be a beautiful building but then I remembered that Randall Davis was building it and it’s about as good as we could have hoped for from him.
  12. Toeflop is trying to catch Rowdy in terms of quantity. He at least appears to have a slight artistic bone in his body but volume taggers are idiots regardless if they can't take time to make real art.
  13. They don't spend that much on their athletic facilities.
  14. They haven't been open for dinner in some time. They used to close at like 8:00 so some would argue they were never really open for dinner. I never understood those times.
  15. Sounds like Petrol Station is done. Phone number disconnected, clearing out equipment.
  16. Still very excited for this building and hoping that this part looks ok but the first signs of it look pretty bad.
  17. They need to fix the broken path downtown by the old Spaghetti Warehouse. It collapsed during Harvey and hasn’t seen any love.
  18. I don’t think that will about do it. Even the open restaurants are largely operating at levels below their necessary profit points.
  19. We apparently do not have the same taste in food. Fire House Pizza is kind of gross.
  20. I've had Moon Tower a ton of times and the food is awesome. The burgers are legit as are the dogs. I usually go for chef's choice for the toppings on my hot dog and that is where you run a high risk/reward chance. I've had amazing dogs that way and have had some failures too.
  21. That's a rough one, Penny Quarter was great.
  22. They did break into my sons daycare. There will be kids there on Monday and there was a TON of broken glass (like 10 plate glass windows).
  23. Tried to snap this while driving. The uncovered garage is looking awesome now. Glad they went this route.
