MAA Afton Oaks: Multifamily At 3131 West Loop S.
Fortune replied to lockmat's topic in Uptown and Galleria Area
I wish they would have purchased the shopping center next door as well. It was for sale not to long ago. That is one of the ugliest shopping centers I have ever seen in my opinion.- 93 replies

That's how the parking garage looks on the other Skyhouse buildings, I'm not sure why you would expect anything different for the one here in Houston.

It has almost been 7 years, I was wondering did the predictions come true ? Is the medical center one of the top 10 business districts? Did the recession stall the medical centers development ? What do you all think about the future of the medical center, will there be another boom in development ?

Care to share those rumors ?

If they used the materials depicted in that rendering on the actually building it would have turned out a lot better. If you look at the rendering the building that was built has a different design and the materials that where used are different. It should have been built to look like the rendering, thats just my opinion though. Hopefully the other phases actually come to fruition and make this building more appealing, like intecity77 mentioned Houston developments have a pattern of changing and canceling initial plans.

Swamplot says the plans were taken down because they are not actual plans for the site. They were just hypothetical plans created in 2011. http://swamplot.com/map-drawing-for-yale-st-retail-development-not-active-plan/2013-02-27/

I always found it interesting that the shopping center property (directly across Post Oak from the BLVD Place development) was for sale and purchased around the same time as the BLVD Place property. However, instead of redeveloping the property they simply chose to remodel the shopping center. Unfortunately I think that means that suburban shopping center will still be around for a whle. If that shopping center, the large shopping center at the corner of Westheimer & Post Oak with Gallery furniture as a tenant, and the one across Post Oak from it with the Old Navy as a tenant were all redeveloped into high density mixed use developments it would have a huge impact on the Uptown area.

In this HBJ article it seems like there will be a Alamo location still in Midtown just not at the first announced location on Louisiana. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2013/02/14/houston-to-get-thrid-inner-loop-alamo.html
