Places you dont care to Return

Recommended Posts

Provided things dont drastically change, where would you never care to go back to?

I would never return to:

-Miami

-Las Vegas

Miami? Interesting. I was only there for about 5 hours to pick up a car, but it looked like a REALLY interesting city.

Vegas...I was there about 10 years ago, but again, it seemed like a really interesting place with lots to see...albeit commercialized. Of course it may get old after a week.

Dallas (kidding)

my list would be quite long. I feel that in the US, the only cities i WOULD go visit multiple times solely for the city would be Las Vegas and NYC. there are plenty of other great cities, but I go to visit friends as well as the city.

Why El Paso?

I wouldnt go back to Washington DC, because quite frankly, ive done it too many times.

I never liked New Orleans. Ever. All i find there is booze and porn. Not my type of city.

El Paso is more of an 'outpost' then a city. Thats my impression anyways.

Newark - lived it for 9 years. No more please.

Rawalpindi - none of you have ever been there, so it probably doesnt even matter. Lets just say for a city with a population of 1,800,000+ there isnt much to do.

Miami - clubs, women, restaurants, women, skyscrapers, and more women. Im not a 'beach' kinda guy so im not into Miami. I dont club or drink either. Dont feel comfortable in that city, although my fam loves it.

Manchester, what is there to do in Manchester? I mean besides going around the ghetto and making fun of the 'pakis' playing cricket in the middle of the street?

Las Vegas, you do it once; and then it loses its charm.

OMG, it's Chamo from "I Love New York" !

Welcome to HAIF, first I am seeing of you, (and yes, I know you are not really that Chamo btw.)

Thanks Puma.... I had the misfortune of getting hooked with Flavor of Love, so I have to admit that I am watching "I love New York". It is so stupid that makes me laugh the whole time. Bunch of big boys crying and making a fool of themselves for such a "nice" price.

I look nothing like that Chamo (Hope is a good thing).

Manchester, I can definately see that for a person of your ethnic origin, not a very "welcoming" place I would gather, for a place that puts Soccer and ale above all else. As DJ would say "Oye ! Oye ! Oye!"

Vegas ? C'mon nmm, you just didn't do it right, or I guarantee the charm would not have worn off of you. For someone that doesn't partake in much "Sin" though, I can see why you wouldn't have enjoyed it. Gambling , Booze, and Women, is all that Vegas was made for, and not neccessarily in that order. You are picking some weird vacation spots. How old were you when you went to Vegas ?

  • New Orleans. It was fun the first couple of times, but then it got old quick. If you're not into drinking and yelling "woo" all night, it may not be the place for you.
  • Wisconsin. There's something about that state that just sucks the life out of me. Every time I have to go there I feel ten years older, and very very tired. It's like some science fiction movie.
  • Juarez.
  • Belgium. For a place where absolutely nothing happens, the people are really uppity, and they'll sue you at the drop of a hat.
  • Macau. A city whose zenith came in the 1600's and hasn't been washed since. All the worst aspects of mainland China and continental Europe rolled up in one dirty, sweaty, hazy mass.

I don't think I'd ever care if I made it back to Miami either. It's a very beautiful city, but I just wasn't that interested.

I will always visit New Orleans. I've felt like this way before the Katrina stuff also. The memory that stays with me is riding a taxi down Canal at Christmas time and seeing all the decorations, tall street lights, people, and activity. I felt just like one of those "country" kids seeing the city for the first time (at the time at had never been to Chicago or NY). I was excited just being there.

Excuse me, Editor, but, you seem to have, uh, forgotten to explain your reason for not going back to Juarez.

Louisiana (excluding Lake Charles)

Cancun, Mexico

Dubai

Mount Crested Butte, Colorado

Beaumont, Texas

Newark, New Jersey

Destin, Florida

I think you're the first person I've heard diss Dubai? Why no love?

Excuse me, Editor, but, you seem to have, uh, forgotten to explain your reason for not going back to Juarez.

Maybe I just went at the wrong season, but it just seemed really dusty and boring to me. Lots of poverty and not much else to see. I think the only cool thing I saw was that massive Mexican flag they have near the border.

I think any place can be interesting enough to visit again, with the right attitude and child-like openess.

However, Las Vegas..... never been and never plan to. Just too.........crap culture, but if I were passing through I'd have to check it out a bit.

Yeah the buildings & Malls are beautiful and fantastic, but the city has turned to crap. The Traffic is terrible (makes Houston look like an empty freeway) and the vacation feeling has left... I've also gotten fed up with the 'new' crowd there... (which might sound odd, since I'm only been there a hand full of times).

I also forgot to explain why I wouldn't go back to those places, so here I go...

Louisiana (excluding Lake Charles) - Whats to like?

Cancun, Mexico - It was fun, the first few times, it gets old. The Hurricane didn't help.

Dubai - explained above

Mount Crested Butte, Colorado - Never been attacked more by insects (+ wildlife) in my life

Beaumont, Texas - might as well be Louisiana

Newark, New Jersey - Dirty everything.

Destin, Florida - The Resteraunts & nightlife suck.

Shiprock, NM

Pecos, Texas

Two of the most depressing places I've ever seen in my life.

You are bound to be referring to the intersection of US-491 (formally US-666) and US-64. That can be a depressing sight. There are a lot of poverty strickened Native Americans that are living like Bedouins (that's the only way I know how to put it) all over the area. In the winter there are many selling chunks of coal out of the back of pickups and cars that don't even look road worthy, they are usually covered in black coal dust (smutty), where they have more than likely harvested the coal by hand from the hills, and are just selling it for whatever money they can get. I can see that as very depressing. It's not too bad if you head East to Farmington, but Shiprock is basically the slums for the reservation in the area. But they probably have more liquor stores and pawn shops per capita than Houston. Not a pretty sight.

Pecos, I kinda like that old town, just not a lot there, never really has been. Pretty typical West Texas.

Myself I found Pittsburg PA to be pretty depressing. But the worst had to be Wheeling, West Virginia, and everything north of it along the river. It's all a bunch of small Steel Mill towns that are just depressing as hell to me. Just has the look of a dead end road with now way to turn around. The mills actually make up the entire towns and the workers live in little boxes on the hillsides (like the "Weeds" song) Towns like Steubenville, just nowhere's 'ville.
