An updated site plan is included in the lasted marketing brochure for The Block at Midtown.

According to the site plan and LoopNet listing, Wei's Kitchen is leasing a unit. Wei's Kitchen may be a Chinese restaurant. I'm basing this on the other restaurant from Wei's Kitchen's owner: Mencius Gourmet Hunan.

There is 4,527 sf still available for lease, which can be divided.

What Now Houston published this dreadful article yesterday about Wei's Kitchen at 2020 Travis St.

Zheng (Wei Kitchen's owner Wei Zheng), remains an elusive figure in the gastronomic community, keeping the details of Wei’s Kitchen currently under wraps as he was unavailable for comment as of this publishing.

With no website or further information available, the anticipation and mystery surrounding the eatery have only served to stoke the flames of curiosity. Some speculation is that Wei’s Kitchen will offer a fusion of traditional and contemporary flavors, or perhaps specialize in a specific regional cuisine.

Given the diverse and rich culinary heritage that Houston enjoys, Wei’s Kitchen could very well be a new nexus for culinary innovation. The location is strategically positioned in a bustling area, making it an ideal spot for attracting a diverse clientele eager to sample the dish creations from Zheng.

First off, I highly doubt Wei's Kitchen is a business many Houstonians are anticipating. That's not to say it won't be a fine restaurant. It probably will be. Moreover, this eatery is not going to be "a new nexus for culinary innovation."

My guess is the author has a minimum word count that they have to adhere to. Hence, the reason for the article's fluff and needless padding.

Still, What Now Houston notes the following regarding a possible opening timeline:

According to a comp report reviewed by What Now Houston, the Lease Term is set for June 2024, leading the belief that permitting and construction will soon be underway to turn the space into something fitting for Wei’s Kitchen sometime in 2024.

There seems to have been some slow down in work since the cinder blocks got put in.. and not sure what happened to the top but looks like mold almost or maybe just water but its definitely a dark color and its all the spots they had repaired before they put the white tiles down. I'm merely a curious observer of the goings on in my hood not an architect so forgive my ignorance heh :D image.jpeg.1876ab2d80e2b6ae36e46279e0049bd0.jpegimage.jpeg.361ab23a50af48408b4b7304c82dcbde.jpeg

Also seems to be a new FOR LEASE sign put up today.. wasn't this the original folks that had it first? Has something fallen through?

Lots of jackhammer action the last two weeks or so... on the far side of this picture new conduit is going up for electrical. It appears they have also started framing some of the windows to recieve glass soon. After appearing stalled for a bit there is action pretty much daily again now.

Been a lot more action in recent week or two. some concrete work inside and out front. They've made sunk-in doorways in a couple of places. Also more wiring and starting the setup for i guess stucco.

Two franchise/underground encroachment bills were filed yesterday for 2020 Travis St.

Details from one permit:

  • Use: Metal awning on Gray St for project on 2020 Travis

Details from the other permit:

  • Use:  Metal awning & sanitary sewer on Travis St for project on 2020 Travis

The permits are for The Block at Midtown. It's a new retail center undergoing renovations.
