DrLan34
I seez. Hopefully, something new will come along.I saw lots of work going on at Tipsy during my lunch break.... The guy said they were putting in a bar called "Wunder Bar". That sounds good but I also saw a sign for "Wunder Bar build out" next to Ruby Tequilas (near Lousiana and McGowen) with a bunch of work going on there too... Not sure what is going in...I also saw a lot of demolition and new railing going up at the old Red Door Bar. Looks like something new is going in there.Last, there is work going on at the place inbetween Cafe Layal and Front Porch... looks like they are re-doing Lemon Tree (which shut down not too long ago). DrLan34
Appreciate the update!L&G,I got some updates. so "Wonder Bar" is going in where Tipsy Clover use to be and they are planning on opening this Friday (Jan 7). Also, "Wunder Bar" is going in right next to Ruby Tequilas near Louisiana and McGowen. Apparently it is a completely different concept and just a coincidence that they have the same name... strange but it is what it is.

Charles Z
My girlfriend and I stopped by the new bar in Tipsy's place this past Saturday night. It's called Wonderbar, and it is owned by the same guy who owns Sawyer Park. It was jam packed.
DrLan34
Has the place that they have been remodeling above Wonder Bar (which I believe use to be Red Door) been completed yet? What is it, bar, club, restaurant?

What is it, bar, club, restaurant?I think it is an extension of wonder bar or an associated club. Also, I saw that Pub was doing interior renovations, but that the lot by howl at the moon has some action, so not sure what the intention is now for that lot. I would have to ask some folks that work there.

Not sure what they're going to do with it.
DrLan34
Right, but since they're renovating their existing bar, I'm thinking a new Pub isn't going up on the empty nearby lot. Not sure what they're going to do with it.I see your point but it would be a pretty big miscalculation after doing so much underground pipe work. I guess funding could always fall through... we shall wait and see.
diggity
I see your point but it would be a pretty big miscalculation after doing so much underground pipe work. I guess funding could always fall through... we shall wait and see. I was at Pub Fiction yesterday for happy hour and the renovations look nice! They have expanded the seating inside and out.I spoke with one of the bartenders and he said they have no plans to leave that location. The bar they are building next to Howl at the Moon will be a different concept.

rci2145
I walked by the old El Patio Xuco Xicana restaurant and they were putting up new siding over the aluminum addition that was build a few years ago. I always hated the aluminum addition. It looked REALLY tacky. But, the new siding actually looks really good. I don't know if that means a new tenant is moving in or if the owner is doing his own renovations.

Purdueenginerd
That surprises me. Though I havent been there in a long time. I still think that midtown needs a better mix of restaurants to help support the bar scene

HTexas
I think "Open City" was actually the bar that is next to Sage County, not the "Cook and Collins" spot. Looking forward to this new concept taqueria. If they can get the right Happy Hour menu and prices and really draw in the Midtown demographic of 20's and 30's and still be at least a little classy, it will work. There's so many of these taco spots in Houston that are successful, innovative, and reasonably prices (Velvet Taco, Torchy's, etc), they should follow the lead on these and then add that "rock n' roll" atmosphere like they say, in some classic rock music and memorabilia as the decor (take a note from Hard Rock Cafe and kick it up a notch). All of the Torchy's locations and the Velvet Taco location are always very busy and the menus are original with a casual atmosphere and competitive pricing.

BeerNut
https://www.houstonpress.com/restaurants/los-tios-expands-77-degrees-debuts-soon-11213066 77 Degrees, 2416 Brazos, is slated to open early March on the rooftop of Jack and Ginger's. Both concepts are from Union Venture Group, a hospitality business founded by brothers Jeff and Darren Van Delden nearly 20 years ago in Austin, where the original Jack and Ginger's pub and 77 Degrees are located. The laid-back vibe of 77 Degrees will be evident in the four levels of cabana-style seating and Caribbean-inspired tapas and cocktails. The spectacular view of the Houston skyline will remind guests where they are.
