...geez, no one's intrigued about that photo of a model coaster I posted? It was on display at the IAAPA convention in November this year, the construction crew who will be erecting this structure were very loose lipped about its intended destination near Houston.

it would be nice to get another wooden coaster!

just wasn't sure if this was a serious rumor or not...

would be happy if it was though! ;)

Memories at Astroworld. ..... yes. BUt it is gone and thank God. It was a gang infested sack of nuttin' at the end. Houston can and will do better. I have escorted lots of out of towners to that place, but that was back in the day. Let's move forward. Hell, Six Flags in Dallas or Fiesta Texas will suffice. B)

i was out at the sam's club on 610 yesterday and hear that the same developer that purchased the astroworld property, also purchased the sam's club lot.

sam's will be closing in 2007 or 2008 and moving further out (beltway 8 @ 288 i hear).

not sure what will become of that sam's club space...?

I don't smoke that stuff anymore and i didn't say i was cool either stinkpickle.

I derived it from your text + emotion, sue me for my wrong assumption why don'tcha :). I guess a stinkpickle is another term for poop I assume? I will have to use that in a sentence today, thanks for sharing.

He didnt say anything about it making you cool... <_<

Anyhoo,

You are a bit "new" to come in here so soon with a "stinkpickle"-y attitude :D !

I argued with you about the Taz Texas Tornado moving around a cranival in germany, and the Taz Texas Tornado only.

Your title returns.

So, again --

Originally called the Thriller and was operated as a traveling coaster throughout Germany. Built in 1986.

Named Taz's Texas Tornado when it opened at Astroworld in 1998.

Renamed to Texas Tornado for the 1999 season.

Closed in 2001 and 2002 due to issues with the restraints.

Your title never left.

Am I the only one who finds it ironic that you were apologizing for this type of behavior not too long ago?

Probably -- because I doubt you understand the meaning of the word "irony".

I never apologized for stating facts on here. Just because you don't accept logical thinking, doesn't mean I'm attacking you.

Lets just be neighbors, I see you walking every morning, kicking your legs too high.

Ah -- thanks for confirming that it was you I saw that day walking down my street. Why else would you attempt such a bizarre insult? You denied it at the time, but the fact that it resonated with you enough to bring it up here tells me it was you and that you have added "liar" to your repetoire.

Don't bother replying to this. You are now ignored.

Some memories of Astroworld:

* Doing the previously-mentioned quarter trick on the Sky Screamer (although we only used pennies, quarters being too valuable). It was fun to watch them float there for a second or two then fling off to oblivion when you hit the curve at the bottom.

* Figuring out where the camera was that took your picture on the Viper and flipping it off (dumb kids, we were).

* Taz's Texas Tornado's restraints sucked. The g-forces at the bottom of drops were so bad, your spine would compress, further retracting the restraint and leaving your back crunched for the rest of the ride. Agony even at 20 years old. I only rode that ride once.

*The two strategies for riding the Bamboo Shoot: either piling everyone in the back so the boat would skip across the water at the bottom or piling everyone in the front so the boat would plow through the water and drench us all.

* I remember being afraid of Excalibur (Excalibur for goodness sakes!) as a child, but then riding it a few years later thinking, "Geez, I could practically stand up and ride this thing!"

So what was the nature of the disagreement regarding parking with Harris County?

Nah, not so surprising to me, the fact that they have to be neighbors but don't get along sucks. I know Gary, personally now, our kids actually go to the same private school, and we finally got to shake hands on Sunday at the kids Christmas Pageant. He is definately sombody I would hang out with. You know how you can just tell who are good people sometimes. Now I know I could probably take him in an armwrestling match. >:)

Dal, quit being a stinkpickle ! I friggin LOVE that, ROFLMAO ! Almost as funny as turdburglar.

Does alot of stuff people say just go in one ear and out the other to you?

Anyways, it was not me walking down the street. I was just throwing what you said back in your face, which is exactly what you did on post #76 to me. Except I attempted to give an example of one of the only 2 moments of kindness you've ever shown. You took what I said (how ever many years ago, when I was still learning english) and played it sarcastically.

Ignore me all you want, I just hope you grow up one day.

Puma- no we don't know eachother... thank god

TJones- I use to live in a townhouse in the westend on Blossom, he also lived in a townhome around there.

Gosh, this is just like one of those Rock Hudson/Doris Day movies....

How long until you two give up and admit you're in love?

Not to get off topic, since this is the Astroworld Memories thread, but what did he say to you about your english many moons ago to pissed you off?

Okay...I'll stop being a stinkpickle, if Montrose stops being a turdburglar.

As a native Houstonian (born in 1964) - I have many fond memories of Astroworld. Yeah, the park did go downhill in it's final years - but for me - it was always magical.

FYI - I think the best and most informed explanation as to why Astroworld was closed can be found here:

http://www.saveastroworld.com/

When Texas Tornado/Thriller was removed from the German Fair circuit and located at Astroworld, Six Flags removed most of the flashy lighting the ride once had.

The guy who put up this website has a lot of the original lighting in his garage, I've been over there and seen it.

I just got a "computer" when I moved here, and the internet stuff was really new to me. I use to (still do) make extreme typos, and word sentences in a very odd manor.

  • 8 months later...

Smoking a joint on the cable cars did not make you cool. There aren't as many cool people in the world as there have been who got high on a cable car going over an amusement park.

However.....Smoking a joint, then dropping the roach (not the kind in the waffle cone bin) >100ft to the ground and then picking it up after you get off the cable car made you cool. B)

Other things that were cool (or felt cool at the time) at AW:

-Riding Greezed Lightnin' repeatedly on slow days. To hell with staying on the ride. We got out, ran through the line every time and got right back on. 44 times in a row the last day I went in 1999.

-The back seat of the Texas Cyclone before it became an old, slow shell of itself.

-Watching my idiot friends pretend to sing at the karaoke-music video thing that was by the Wagon Wheel

-Flipping the bird at the camera that captured you going down the loop on Batman: The Escape

-Going alone, most everywhere and every time I went. I traveled with people but I was the cat who raised his hand every time they called out *is anyone up here riding alone?*

-Staying in line for two hours for the hot new ride that turns out to be lame *coughcough*MayanMindbender*coughcough*

-Getting stuck on the Excalibur/Dexter Freebish E.R.R. because some moron up front decided to climb out of his seat

-Almost coming out of the seat myself on the drop when riding the rear seat for the first time (I was like 8 or something)

Plenty more....those are the memories that stick out.
