Montrose1100
Booked Friday night reservations at Mark's. Anyone been? Does it live up to the hype? The Menu doesn't look terribly expensive. Any recommendations/must haves?
bachanon
I haven't been in awhile. The times I've been it was amazing; the food and service were impeccable. Let us know how it goes.
OkieEric
Yes, it lives up to the hype. I haven't been in a long while, though. We went a few years ago and probably had the best waiter I've ever had - very friendly and knowledgeable and truly went above and beyond expectations. The food was also great, of course. Due to travels with work I've been to a lot of nice restaurants but that waiter (an older gentleman) really stands out in my mind We had a great meal and wine for < $150 or so. I'm guessing there's been some price inflation since then but it's a great place if you are willing to spend a little
Subdude
Haven't been in a while. Last time I was there I asked if the vegetable plate was just the standard grilled squash and zucchini, and if so I didn't want it. The waiter said that it was, but they were able to come up with a great non-standard vegetable entree. Incredible service to do that. Montrose1100
I've been wanting to go for a long time, but never did any homework. I always see the valet parking filled with Mercedes & Bentleys so I assumed it was formal dress code (based on who was walking in or out), and that it required a special occasion. Those type of places are not for me, as I like a more relaxed atmosphere. So I called and they told me Business Casual, no coat required. And like I said earlier the menu isn't over the top prices like I thought it would be. Crossing my fingers the food is a little better than the Palm. I'm usually a chicken dish kinda guy, but if the steak is recommended i'll order it. So steak or chicken? Wine or Cocktails? Come on most of y'all said you had been there, give me some advice. Call them. Act like you own the place and inquire about menu's, attire, stuff like that. They don't mind. Remember you have the money, they have the service you would be paying for - while they probably do not need you in particular - they have a reputation and want new customers. I'll add this: Sometimes the best way to check out a place is during a restaurant week, or perhaps when they offer a brunch? The brunch option is how I found and discovered (if that's the right term) Americas. Great place by the way for a brunch, even better for a nice dinner. bachanon
The chef's specials are always the best. They are very accommodating if you have particular dietary needs.
Montrose1100
Almost as much of a disappointment as Monarch. Cocktails were impeccable, great atmosphere, service was great but he went on for 15 minutes about the "off menu" items, and sounded like the Swedish family guy characters (it was eight dollers forty). The salad was great, soup was comparable to Jason's deli. The entree was garbage. It was comparable to a dish in the UK. Bland, greasy, but when in the UK that's all you have so you just eat it. The chicken dish had dark and white meat and they tasted the same. The chicken sausage on the dish was horrible. The same texture was like fried oatmeal (Scottish dish), like eating gravel. Quite a shame. I think I have learned my lesson and not to eat at places that were hyped up a few years ago. After eating that sausage I almost feel sick.Great place for drinks though!

Fringe
I went once to Mark's and although I didn't find the food terrible, I thought it expensive for what you got. It's a cool old building though and worth a visit for the atmosphere.

The last time I was there, it was still occupied by Dream Merchant.
