texas911
They are opening up one on Buffalo Speedway across from the new HEB. Sign looks cool.
kylejack
Decent burger, overpriced, lackluster service the one time I went, though it was near when they first opened.
sevfiv
Yes! The one on Main and Kirby. I really really like them, but others I have talked to say they're just okay. The price doesn't help, either, but I don't think it's that bad. Service at that location has always been good, too.If you go, I'd recommend the 1/2 pound mushroom swiss. The fries are good, too (rosemary, garlic, and olive oil on them).
Fringe
Will have to check that out. I have eaten at the one at Kirby and Main several times. Great burger, so-so fries. (No match for 5 Guys Fires).  Overpriced if you compare their burgers to BK or McD's but not to other premium burger joints like Fudrucker or Beck's.
JLWM8609
I noticed that shortly after SmashBurger opened up at Main and Kirby, D.J.'s Old Timey Hamburgers right across the street went out of business. Looks like it had been there for a good long while too.
sevfiv
^Dammit, did they really? I noticed the tarp has been on the roof for a looong time, but I swear I saw cars there the other day. Maybe they were just using the parking lot, though..

sevfiv
Yeah, drove by there earlier today and it was dead (though appeared to have all furniture/signs remaining).
jc281
real good. similar to the Houston's/Jalexander's burger for a better price
swtsig
went last week... burger was pretty tasty, the smash fries were awesome although a little on the greasy side. did not care for the space at all... just doesn't feel like a burger joint, and their signs looks like it belongs to gamestop or something. names
LOL, a place has to feel like a burger joint? I think the design is pretty efficient and cheap to execute; but don't get me started on exposed ceilings in restaurants though! The food (main&kirby) is what one would expect from a nicer american food place and they seem to know their customers demographics w/r/t prices. jfre81
LOL, a place has to feel like a burger joint?Like Lucky Burger? It does indeed look like Smash Burger commandeered a GameStop and started slinging burgers out of it, but if it's good, it's all that matters. texas911
Finally tried it out. It was packed. My verdict, moo. It was a step up from fast food, but not as good as Fudruckers. Fries are way over-rated, btw.
houstonmacbro
They are opening up one on Buffalo Speedway across from the new HEB. Sign looks cool.No. But I do want to try them and the one in Vintage Park. Forget the name.

Fringe
Went to the new one last Friday. Same good burger but they way undercooked the haystack onion rings. They were oily and not the least bit crispy which was a shame because they really are good when prepared right.
kylejack
Lucky Burger is way better than Smashburger. That's right, I said it.
sevfiv
^Blasphemy! And I remember the same thing about the haystack onions - but I am never one to deny/complain about grease
Fringe
Lucky Burger is way better than Smashburger.  That's right, I said it.LOL. I still go to Lucky Burger 2 out of 3 times I eat lunch out. Smashburger doesn't have fried rice either.
rsb320
Anyone remember Mary Ann's Old Fashioned Hamburgers? It is/was diagonally across Kirby from Smashburger.
sevfiv
Anyone remember Mary Ann's Old Fashioned Hamburgers? It is/was diagonally across Kirby from Smashburger.Where the gas station is? Or where DJs Old Timey Hamburgers (now defunct) is?
rsb320
Where the gas station is? Or where DJs Old Timey Hamburgers (now defunct) is?That's it. It was Mary Ann's prior to DJ's. Mary Ann's were Old Fashioned and DJ's were Old Timey. I think we will agree that both were good and greasy.
westguy76
Tried this place finally. My companion and I both thought the meat too salty. And overall the experiance/taste not worth the price. The haystack onion rings were good though.
Reefmonkey
They opened one right by my office (Westheimer and Tollway, and I've been there a few times. My coworkers are gaga about this place (though they live in Friendswood, so I think their dining standards are low). Their frenchfries are really good, but I don't think their burgers or chicken sandwiches are really anything special. Beck's Prime is much better. fresnel151
Overpriced for an average burger. The Smashfries sounded promising but ultimately didn't deliver. The availability of beer was a plus. Staff was friendly and efficient.
