  1. That's nothing compared to the speed it took for Cheney to shoot a lawyer in the face or for a falling down drunk to knock himself out on the corner of a coffee table. Until Gore Jr. becomes the leader of the free world, I'm going to have to wait for a plausible explination from the guy who is the "leader" of the free world...and that includes Bush as well.
  2. Well sure, silly boy... (a new Mercedes and Sub-Zero we've been looking at) but that's our money...just as the 100K+ that someone decided they would spend on a day labor site. You sound like one of them there lib-ruls that sez you know better even though your tax dollars-or otherwise-have nothing to do with anything when it comes to personal contributions. Anywho, for all our fellow HAIFer's this is a prime example how opposing views should be dealt with. He respectfully smacks me and I respectively return the favor...because he is my internet brother with malice towards none.
  3. Who knows? All I said is someone has picked up the slack. You are the only one that mentioned LULAC. I could have mentioned Caroline Farb but that doesn't make it so...right? Besides, LULAC has nothing to hide...others may just be more shy and/or descrite. Why should it matter to any of us?
  4. Looks like that is exactly what's happened: someone other than the city has taken up the slack for another year. Apparently someone was "soooooo concerned about them" to pick up the slack. Where's the applause from all you "free marketers?"
  5. Your best bet is the Holocaust Museum. You will find lists of living and dead area Houstonians who were victems of the Nazis and residents of the camps. Their stories are well documented in their archives and library in addition to their affiliation with other Holocaust Museums. All you have to do is ask.
  6. That is now the Dullards Dillards across Post Oak from Neieman Marcus. Didn't someone say it was soon to be raised?
  7. That would be great! I've been to Taniguchi's renovation and expansion of the MoMA at least 4 times...it seems to dissapear just as he intended...just leaving the art there by itself. I saw Richard Serra's exhibition yesterday and today. What a treat to see such massive art sitting in space's that ultimately aren't there. I totally get what Taniguchi was striving for...I just get so jazzed by this kind of thing. Taniguchi engineered these spaces for the size and weight of pieces like these. Serra was just waiting for interior spaces to display his work in the U.S. like he does with his out-door pieces and his interior pieces in Bilbao. He is such a great guy who has a great respect for engineers, architects and design so I'm pretty crazy about him. Check the flash out: http://www.moma.org/exhibitions/2007/serra/flash.html
  8. Read this: http://blogs.chron.com/bluebayou/2007/06/a...ernet.html#more BTW, there are probably more editors of websites sucking in more cash from trustful but guliable users than pimple poppers. I'm not sure which is worse but I think I'll go with the pimple poppers.
  9. Yep. I had a Cutco gelato scoop. I sold it in a yard sale for a dollar. My oldest sister had a Cutco butchers's knife. She gave it to her youngest daughter. She gave it away as an incentive to get a sucker to buy a broken rocking chair. So much for Cutco. If you are a serious cook, buy a Henckels and/or a Wusthof . Nothing slices a salmon fillet like a razor blade or smashes a jalepeno or clove of garlic than a really good knife. I still have one of my grandma's. Buy the best upfront and enjoy the quality for the rest of your life.
  10. Well, so far everyone has been welcomed-not necessarily with open arms-without a "new visitors" thread. I don't argue the point just because I think it may turn out to be an energy waster. It's a great place to vent; it's a great place to confuse "me" with "moo" even if it comes from two of my three favorite members. You have already endeared me with your biker avatar so hopefully this pic will endear me to you:
  11. That's pretty much where I am with music. He clearly knows nothing of the neighborhood while those of us that were born there, grew-up there and continue to live, visit, support and shop there know better. But he really likes to argue for the sake of arguing. He and others like him are why I sign on to HAIF less and less everyday.
  12. Agreed. Also a larger, better stocked library would bring more pedestrians from OF Elementary, Black, Waltrip and the neighborhood in general inspite of music's somewhat confusing mumble.
  13. I know you get it but I don't know why you continue to play your little baiting game. Are you really theniche disquised as the ambiguous fairy?
  14. Thanks again for the info, Martha. I look forward to the rebirth of this stretch of 43rd. That has nothing to do with the topic-it's periphial at best. It rains every where. OF has always been walkable. It was walkable when I was a kid and it's walkable now. Does a less than 10 minute walk to a Kroger, Walgreens, HP Library, two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school, theatre, dentist, eye doctor or Palais Royal make it less walkable? It's only an unwalkable neighborhood to a bunch of couch slugs who choose to be... couch slugs? It's always been pedestrian friendly. So rebuilding a small part only reinforces it's viability as a pedestrian friendly neighborhood. It might even force the city to expand the 43rd Street library to accomodate even more pedestrians-especially kids.
  15. Perhaps if Shelley Sekula-Rodriguez-Gibbs-Braun-or whatever name she is using today-had kept her commitment to serve out her term instead of playing Congresswoman For A Day, a portion of the millions it cost to run a special election and a run-off could have gone to funding the center. Besides, it was always fun to watch her get delicate flower-slapped on a regular basis by even the simpilest councilmember...can anyone say Orlando?
  16. He did not speak at NASA that day. He went straight to the Rice; rushed past me without a glance while LBJ worked the line and patted me on the head; Went upstairs; took a nap; ate some quail; went to the Colusiem for a chicken dinner tribute organized by Albert Thomas for Albert Thomas; left and went to Hobby; flew to Fort Worth; woke up; ate breakfast; gave a parking lot speech; flew to Love and had his brains blown out into his wife's lap by a guy who was a really good shot who knew how to take three shots in a little over 4 1/2 seconds-if you started your stop-watch with the first. I'm a lousy shot but I could take down Bambi's mom with the same 3.
  17. Thanks for bringing that up. Nothing says plant disease like HD/Lowes/Houston Garden Center. I encourge you all to follow follow dal's lead and purchase all your diseased plants from Lowes since they apparently maintain a better diseased plant garden section. I'll stick to Buchanan's for the healthy ones.
  18. HD is no worse than Lowes and Lowes is no better than HD. If you go to either expecting expert advice, you'll have no one to blame but yourself for the disapointment you will experience. When I have to go I already know more about what I'm looking for than the store manager ever will. The only questions I've had to ask in the recent past at our HD on 610N is where a department is-because they expanded and moved things around. Even that was a worthless endevour on my part because the slug I asked didn't have a clue where anything was in the store he worked in. So for the most part I go to C&D and Sherwin Williams for the quality help. Everyday crap (lightbulbs, trash bags, etc...) I'll just go to Lowes.
  19. Did you see my Big Jane on American Chopper? She is such a camera hog...
  20. It depends on who's holding the strings-which is normally the seller. A "rent to buy" contract will almost always benefit the seller. If you are hell-bent on ownership but can't quite get past the requirements of the traditional lender you may want to go to the rent to buy option. Just make sure you've investigated the seller-get a credit report for starters- so you are confident enough to sign the bottom line with el diablo (Personnaly I'd hang loose and wait out a clean buy before hanging my hat on a wobbly hat rack-not that all sellers are bad but they seem to be far and inbetween.) Sorry I couldn't offer a better "rent to own" scenario based on the owner's rep, but I just can't see it. Never forget you are the boss of you...and act accordingly.
  21. Art is what the artist says it is. My sculpture is art because I say so. The people who buy it say so. As far as the Beatles go, I'm OK with them but I've never been a fan of Adickes; mostly because of his execution. Gary, Maybe someone needs to suggest he rearrange them so as to put John where he belongs?
