Well, looks like Sagemont beat em to it - 170 ft cross (originally to be 190 ft) is at the corner of 45 and 8. In the article, Booth was quoted as well: "With all these billboards and adult entertainment places out here, we at Grace Community decided a cross would be perfect for Houstonians," Pastor Garrett Booth said. http://www.click2houston.com/news/18695333/detail.html#-

Just because people publicly express their dislike for a chain of food establishments or their proprietor does not equal self-loathing or autophobia As for the critique of the entire Kemah boardwalk, I have no clue since it's been ages since I've been there. -
I didn't take it as rude either, but internet affectivity is hard to decipher sometimes... Here's the streetview of 4302, though: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source...138521040667438 edit - same map as kylejack, oops!

The lines between fair use and infringement can be blurry, but straight up reproduction of an entire article falls in the latter, even if you are not doing it for commercial purposes. You might be better off quoting from it and giving a citation. Here's what the Copyright office has to say about fair use, though: http://www.copyright.gov/fls/fl102.html

Wilshire Village Apartments At 1701 W. Alabama St.
sevfiv replied to DJ V Lawrence's topic in Historic Houston
If the eviction notices are a scam or not legal and the property id not going to be vacated soon, I'd volunteer some weekend time to restoration (kind of like the guerilla sidewalk paving discussed in another thread). Some unsympathetic folks suggest all people interested in preservation buy up every property (at any price?), but this is all I have to offer. Of course, I'm sure I (and others) would have the cops called on us for trespassing.- 388 replies

I'm not sure if he's the first occupant or even designer, but a Robert M. Taylor, Jr. lived there (architect?)

America's Most Miserable Cities (2009)
sevfiv replied to editor's topic in Meanwhile, In The Rest of the World...
I was surprised to see St. Louis, although they didn't give any specifics ("The Gateway City scored in the bottom half of all nine categories we looked at for the Forbes Misery Measure. It was the only metro area to pull off that feat"). -
I think the Foley brothers were Patrick and James, and they sold Foley's by 1920. Maybe they had another brother?

^edit - oops! you beat me to it, but here's the link: And here starts the legal mess (via Swamplot): Houston City Council Member Sue Lovell — and separately, at least one attorney — has reportedly told tenants of the complex that the eviction letter they received is not legally binding, since it was not signed by all owners of the property. Here’s the original report Swamplot received about the eviction notices last week... http://swamplot.com/wilshire-village-updat...ess/2009-02-10/- 388 replies

Did the Burger King on the corner of Travis and Capitol finally kick the bucket? -
It's kind of neat to switch between current and the oldest (1995) in some locations, and nice to see it large and without watermarks like from historicaerials.com. I wonder if any older satellite images will be added...

I tried installing GE 5 (linux) and it's a no-go . I may check it out on Windows though.

Nice listing Well, his clinic couldn't compete (2615 Cameron St.) so it's not surprising his home can't either..

Yeah, that makes sense - it must seem odd to come to a huge city that is grasping at c. 1940s structures. In defense of Wilshire Village, though, it is of a style that isn't that well represented in this form in Houston these days..- 388 replies

$50K In Houston Equals $123K in NYC, Study Finds
sevfiv replied to lockmat's topic in General Houston Discussions
Yes, rents are incredibly variable - I have seen small centrally located apartments go for ~1,000, but I've also found place that were ~$550. I'm talking more about buying. -
^From what you wrote, it sounds like the UH system needs to give that bastard child up for adoption then! Fwiw, I am also a UH graduate but have never suffered from any confusion with UHD.

I think people don't quite realize how bloated Houston is and the incredibly great cost of living is calculated by not living in Houston "proper." -
So you guys really think that the media tells you everything going on? And that no one corrupt is withholding?
-
It just makes sense that if it is part of the UH system, UH should be part of the name. All of the campuses have geographical notations (Downtown, Clear Lake, Victoria, main/central). Also, is anyone familiar with another university that is named for its city and has several campuses?

The library renovations were started after I was long gone, but I had to go back for a few classes there for graduate school in the evening - it is interesting after dark... Here's a UH Today article about it: http://www.uh.edu/uhtoday/2004/06jun/062804sanborn.html
