  1. I always mean to check out Annie's, but I always forget when it comes time to go somewhere... Was the place on MLK near 610? It might have been Burger Park. There is (was?) also a Burgers n More at Reed Rd.
  2. Has anyone been to DJ's on Kirby between Main and OST? Are they even open now?
  3. I went back to check it out for the second time - this time I had the mushroom/swiss burger (1/2 lb.) with the haystack onions.. I think it was even better than the first one I had.. And yeah, it is a little more expensive, but worth it imo...(was $11 something for the burger - the larger one - a side, and a fountain drink).
  4. There's a thread from a couple years back about the closing of the Gallant Knight and the changing landscape on that stretch of the medical center area - I noted that Buon Appetito was still there, but hoped I didn't jinx it by mentioning it.. Well, via Swamplot, it looks like the long-time owner is retiring and has put it up for sale and according to HAR, he's a "motivated seller." Who knows, maybe someone will buy it (almost $1 million) and keep it open, but I'm doubtful... http://search.har.com/engine/dispSearch.cf...s=1&sTYPE=0
  5. Yikes - I forgot about the fun sex offender search: COOPER,GARY ABRAHAM COX,WILLIAM SPENCER JONES,CLEMENT SMITH,MICHAEL JAMES
  6. Gee, and there are about 25 folks that registered to vote using 2910 Crawford...
  7. I would be interested in joining, though tentative since my schedule can be a little erratic. And "This Is Our Home, It Is Not for Sale" is over three hours long...!
  8. ^I don't get the 3410 Montrose link, but this is the entry for "Intercity Enterprises, LP" from the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts: INTERCITY ENTERPRISES, L.P. 1980 POST OAK BLVD STE 700 HOUSTON, TX 77056-3848 Registered Agent: BARRY SNOWDEN 1980 POST OAK BLVD., STE. 700 HOUSTON, TX 77056 File Number: 0800067945 SOS Registration Date: March 25, 2002 Taxpayer Number: 32035913808 ---------------- Barry Snowden is an attorney: http://www.mlhs.net/
  9. And the book - yes, I know I need to just get it already
  10. Interesting. That's when Jensen was Humble Rd. - or Clark St. On current maps, the southern end of Jensen aligns with Clark around the 10/59 interchange, but there's not much left of Clark. On this map, it was also labeled State Highway 35. This one shows Clark turning in to Jensen, which was also 59.
  11. The Epsom was interesting to visit (well, moreso than others). This is from 2005:
  12. As far as I know it is, though I am not sure on the name...
  13. Thanks for posting - definitely going to make a trip to see this..
  14. I considered riding my bike to work a few days a week but after observing the car/bicycle interaction on the route for a few months, I let it go. Even leisure riding around is more effort and dangerous than it's worth to me. Until I move elsewhere, it's in storage
  15. Are prayers appropriate in the first place? Although Warren's went pretty smoothly, imo...
  16. That's for sure... And I assume it offsets the cost of the officers being on the clock, too...
  17. That's not true... And blame should go to all those that helped/forced a ton of bad policy and decisions over the years - policies that were detrimental to citizens and will continue to be for many, many years. People will blame Obama for not fixing everything (because he can't in his term, no matter how long it may be) - but hopefully he will start turning the gears in a positive direction...
  18. King Center Twin Drive-In At 6400 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. The King Center Twin Drive-In opened at 6:00 p.m. on June 25, 1952. The King Center Twin Drive-In was closed in 1981.
  19. The Friends of Fondren Library at Rice University presents the 2009 Distinguished Guest Lecture with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry. Wednesday, January 21, 2009 7:00 p.m. Grand Hall, Rice Memorial Center Free and open to the public. Reservations are not necessary. http://www.rice.edu/maps/maps.html
  20. I had to give some thought about where I really get my "news"... I have the Chronicle and local television stations on live bookmark RSS, but like 20thstreet mentioned, I usually just scan the headlines. Sometimes I give in and click on who/where/how a drunk driver vehicularly (new word?) manslaughtered a family, but geez. I also get the daily emails from the New York Times and Houston Business Journal, but as someone pointed out to me, I think I get most of my news from HAIF...! As far as blogging, it is about content, sources, and analysis. I think there are a handful of blogs that do well - imo, Arianna Huffington has done a decent job at pooling together authors to post blog entries about current events.. For the most part, though, I steer clear. For local stuff, Houstonist has good content, and the rest of the blogs I read are strictly entertainment/hobby (food-related, funny, etc).
  21. Astroworld/Southpointe topics combined.. ..and I'll believe it when I see it. As the replacement for one of the worst real estate-related fiascos in Houston (imo), it could be worse. But as usual, I'm not so impressed.
  22. Thanks for sharing the comment - If you have a digital image, you can upload it here as an attachment (there should be a browse/upload tool in the lower right hand corner of the reply window) or you can host it somewhere and use the "insert image" function ( ) and put the image url in the box that pops up. Tinypic.com is a good place to host pictures for free. ------ Oh, and similar threads combined...
  23. I was getting confused about the Post Oak drive-in, but now I know why (thanks to Cinema Houston via Google books).. The Post Oak I was at 2900 (S.) Post Oak (Hidalgo) and Post Oak II was at 1255 N. Post Oak (Awty school area). And 57Tbird - thanks for the heads up...I completely forgot about posting those!
