Does anyone have a quick link to the most recent rendering released? Is it supposed to be flat glass all the way up?
-
Very neat - thanks for posting!

Yeah, there are all sorts of treasures out there! It is now gone so I assume the apartments go around and clean things up once in a while. On a good day there are a few people fishing and some even on boats.
Here are a few more views:

Welcome to the (greater) neighborhood! I visit the old sandpits pretty often on foot - sometimes via Beverly Hills Park and there's also a decent trail between two of them off of Windmill Lakes. Here's a view from the beginning of the trail:

Ooops! I missed the San Antonio mention
fwiw - the stores in the Houston picture were Kress, Spiegel women's clothing (later Darling Shops), Baker's Shoes, Lady Oris Hosiery, The Good Friend's Shop (women's clothing), Grants, Bert's, and then not seen, but JC Penney on the closest corner.

Oops, as the postcard:
-
Yeah, these are now "Windmill Lakes," mostly surrounded by apartments now.
-
Strange - I was flipping through the 1952 Houstonian (UH yearbook) and saw this picture - there's our Kress, Grants, and Burt's but still not the same.

Hmm...I was just thinking. If you decide to do back roads you could do Hempstead --> Washington/Franklin --> La Branch --> Texas/Harrisburg --> Lockwood --> Telephone (35) if you're going to east Pearland.
West Pearland, you could do Hempstead --> Washington/Franklin --> La Branch --> Alabama --> Crawford/Almeda.
Those would be what I'd consider "Houston scenic." Unless you're trying to bee-line it to Pearland, in which case just stay in the middle lanes of 290-610-288 and drive defensively (but it might take you just as long)

I think it looks awesome! More pictures!

Take backroads! You'll see tons more!

Interesting - there's a Kress Building on the right so that could narrow it down. Kress, Grants, Grayson (?), Burt's, Carl's, The Vogue, and Majestic and Texas theaters...hmm...

My guess would be Pasadena Public but I'd call - the catalog record I saw has a note that reads "began in 1990?"
Also, it looks like Herzstein Library at the San Jacinto Museum of History has one issue - the April 21, 1961 San Jacinto Souvenir Edition.

"It is really sad that he's gone. It's clear that people cared about him," said Christina Eberhard, who stopped by Wednesday night to look at the graffiti art adorning the collection of buildings along the 10900 block of Kingspoint behind Almeda Mall.
Estes was found with several gunshot wounds about 10:30 p.m. Monday when Houston police officers were sent to investigate a shooting at the warehouse.
And information about a memorial event tomorrow at Kingspoint Proper:

It wasn't this one on the corner of 71st and Sherman? http://goo.gl/maps/YRghb
It also used to be Stokleys, Schades, and also Simmons Food Mart over the years (nothing I see lists Wu's, but that doesn't mean much).

^Yep, the taqueria at 902 Telephone was a Rettig's.
The jewelry store (at 704 Telephone) was McNeel's in the 1950s and 1960s and later Hart's in the 1970s.
And of course the famous Felix Mexican Restaurant arches can still be seen at 719 Telephone. Oh, and John's Broiler Burger used to be Brittain's.

2015 S-Class coupe, for the independently wealthy among you. I read that it has optional crystal headlights.
Gah..
"For the customer who might feel as though this car doesn’t grab enough eyeballs, the brand offers an enhanced version of full-LED headlights that are accentuated by 47 cut-glass elements supplied by the Austrian company Swarovski. The lighting units house 30 crystals that serve as turn indicators, while the other 17 combine to make up the daytime running lights."

It would seem there would be a mix of regular 'ol atheists and then anti-theists (and everyone in between). I usually associate meetup type things with an activity (cooking, biking, running), not philosophy or line of thought so it's interesting to read about how it went..

Is there any other information about this? Is there any shred of hope that the pieces removed weren't dumpstered?
And sootycat - no worries - as long as it isn't referred to as "The El Capitan?"
-
Yep - those stores are where the 601 Travis building is now. Stein's was at 604 Main St. and the Malone Newstand was at 918 Texas Ave. (I have a 1963 directory and Shoppers Discount Corner was already gone - you can see the "going out of business" signs on it in the video).

^Yeah, page 141 of the online pdf (I have it at home but the PDF is nice!)

Very neat - thanks for posting this!
