  3. From the 1976 directory for Houston six of the seventeen listed McDonalds are gone now:

6610 Harwin Dr.: must have been somewhere in this office complex?

7702 N. Shepherd: McDonalds sold in 1994, currently looks vacant, remodeled as a veterinary clinic - sign post still there (this is the one mentioned above)

6333 Martin Luther King Blvd.: McDonalds sold in 1991, currently gas station (remodeled)

1022 Wirt Rd.: must have been somewhere in this strip center? Currently owned by Weingarten

407 W Southmore Ave. (Pasadena): McDonalds sold in 2004, likely demolished at that time

  4. Wow very cool - I love mini time travels like that!

And yeah, at the beginning (about :17) you can see them passing by Atchafalaya River Cafe which back then was at 8816 Westheimer (currently Landry's, originally Night Hawk) and then at 4:02 they go through Barryknoll St. on the south side of the mall - so it looks like the route was Westheimer to Gessner straight north to the mall.

Oh, and it was posted on the 25th anniversary of the video! (July 20, 1989/2014)

  5. All I an do is give a list, but the Village area in the mid 1970s had Cobler Books (2517 Times Blvd.), Detering Book Gallery (2311 Bissonnet), Brazos (2314 Bissonnet), and Kendrick Books (2429 Rice Blvd.).

    Other random ones:

Montrose had the Libran Book Shop (3700 Yoakum) and Montrose Book Shop (719 Hawthorne).

Southeast - Bellfort Book Store (7143 Bellfort), Palms Book Store (2113 Telephone), and the already mentioned Colleen's (6880 Telephone). Oh, and of course, Mr. Peepers at 5200 Telephone (lol).

  6. The Houston Symphony League Bay Area’s “Day by the Bay” home tour will feature some of the most beautiful and historical homes in the Clear lake Area. Scheduled for March 22-23, the home tour showstopper is the magnificent Italian Renaissance revival style home located at the corner of NASA Parkway and Space Center Blvd.

  7. How did you get this computerized printout of the various business types? I would love to search a few different places around town with that kind of information!

I have quite a few city directories - some in print (that I can scan/photograph) and some pdf (like that one). Houston Public has a lot of early directories online now but I think the interface isn't user friendly..
