Well, nevermind - the place I was thinking of was much smaller (Ladies Boarding School, located at McKinney and Crawford, from the 1877 directory):

^Nice. It was interesting seeing the "Central Bank" get whittled down to "Central," then nothing..
-
^I know, right?! I was thinking...what IS that place?

Is that in the bounds of First Montrose Commons? If so, you may have already asked the group, but I'd start there (or any neighborhood group it's in). I know Sixth Ward has a collection of appraisal images (not sure of the dates) of many homes and also have pulled together some from personal collections. I'd contact someone there to see how they acquired them. Archives out there may help too, depending on who the designed it, did the construction, etc.

Thanks again for the updates!

Current Google street view (empty lot for sale) - BUT - this lot is now technically replatted as part of 4 Braeswood Court, which is the house just southwest of the lot

I can't remember if I posted this back then, but here's a picture of the 4211 Jack St. apartments right before they were demolished:

I came across some pictures - I made it there a little too late back in 2007: http://arch-ive.org/archive/4615-post-oak-place/

Thanks for the updates - I agree, maybe it's just a lazy rendering and we need to wait and see. All in all, though, better than the alternative..

Wow, I found the pictures (from February 2008) and they actually have remnants of the Ivy Russell name, not the stamps. There was a "big bonus stamps" sign sitting in a window though. I'll have them up soon - Subdude, can I use your Ivy Russell image? I'll credit how you wish

Yeah, that one had a pretty nice redo: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=1102+yale+st&hl=en&ll=29.790712,-95.399008&spn=0.00797,0.013937&sll=29.791110,-95.398613&layer=c&cbp=13,45.2,,0,-3.76&cbll=29.79067,-95.398856&hnear=1102+Yale+St,+Houston,+Texas+77008&t=h&z=17&panoid=QzppOGd3SFLXNtMBaIiavQ
I have some pre-renovation pictures of when the newer (Eckerd's era) facade was removed and the stamps signs are showing.
I have that very same picture. Do you know the location? That is the old Weingartens store at Yale and Eleventh St. in the Heights. The location later became a Top Value stamps redemption center. I have no clue what it became after the redemption center moved out. According to Google maps it is now a Lola eatery.

Oh, it was demolished late 2011 - right about after we talked about it.
This is a glimpse of what is used to be. If anyone has any pre-demo pictures they'd like to share, please message me!

I can't remember if I posted this somewhere here or not, but I have an old picture (early 1980s) with a Weingarten's grocery bag in it (if I can find the original scan I'll repost something larger):

So the SLS will be going away - I think it's a ridiculous car but I have a soft spot for those wings!

More from chron.com:
The city of Houston's historical commission has voted unanimously to consider an effort that could give landmark status to the endangered Astrodome.
Maverick Welsh, chairman of the Houston Archaeological and Historical Commission, put forward the motion at the agency's monthly meeting last week.
"I think it was the right thing to do," Welsh said. "We have to focus on saving this building."
The move, however, was principally symbolic. Such a designation would only put a 90-day hold on any demolition.

Snore! Houston needs its 60s brutal buildings!

Gawd. A county stadium can't get county support for anything. Business can't make the $ numbers work to their liking. Folks call for "preservationists" (anyone that likes the idea of saving it?) to foot the bill.
I understand it's a monumental (yeah yeah) cause - the physical size and the disrepair it has been allowed to fall in to - it's just sad that there hasn't been a good combination of brains and dollars to do something yet.
I think it would be neat as a part museum/gallery/tourism (tours) facility. Sports exhibits (think the old Fingers) and so on. And then there's the last ditch Summit idea - Astromegachurch (lol)

The Milby at Garrow bldg (one block behind Wilmer) at 315, 317 Milby or 3801 Garrow was a Lodge, Dance Hall & Store. Blt. 1949-50. Shows an entrance on Garrow St. On the same property, earlier, a different bldg contained the Houston Saengerbund Club Hs., Dance Hall & Bowling Alley.
Years later but I found an image from when it was built (and also took a current one). It was originally the El Tex Temple No. 114, Dramatic Order of Knights of Khorassan:
