From the 1976 directory for Houston six of the seventeen listed McDonalds are gone now:
6610 Harwin Dr.: must have been somewhere in this office complex?

6333 Martin Luther King Blvd.: McDonalds sold in 1991, currently gas station (remodeled)
1022 Wirt Rd.: must have been somewhere in this strip center? Currently owned by Weingarten

407 W Southmore Ave. (Pasadena): McDonalds sold in 2004, likely demolished at that time

Wow very cool - I love mini time travels like that!
And yeah, at the beginning (about :17) you can see them passing by Atchafalaya River Cafe which back then was at 8816 Westheimer (currently Landry's, originally Night Hawk) and then at 4:02 they go through Barryknoll St. on the south side of the mall - so it looks like the route was Westheimer to Gessner straight north to the mall.
Oh, and it was posted on the 25th anniversary of the video! (July 20, 1989/2014)

So strange! It looks like a weird version/blends of an Alder, Sycamore, Beech, or Chinese Chestnut in shrubby form. I asked a planty friend of mine - maybe he'll know.

That small scale caricature of the dome in the center. Come on!

Just a Dollar .19! (used to be Just a Dollar...lol) - and the remnants:

I have a Houston Press (?) article that has Kirby signs...the Big Frank's sign is in it I believe. I'll have to dig it up!

This is excellent...thanks!

Yeah, Snelling Motor Co. was at 2955 Kirby which is now Whole Foods (new building). It was also Plaza Lincoln Mercury in the mid 1970s.

^I still have my beat up little banner (I think the Chronicle gave them out?) from the championship party!
-
^That sounds about right. On 1953 aerials you can see those new neighborhoods and where South Park was pretty new and "merged" with Holmes right at the drive-in theater (that you can still see the ghost of today on 610/MLK)

There's a Pancho's sort of near me (Almeda Mall area) - I went there a few months ago and it hasn't changed for decades, for better or worse..

Astroworld, Astrodome, pre-townhome Montrose, pre-McMansion West U/Bellaire, and something about the gritty 1980s Houston feel.

^I would love that! I think whatever way is easiest and viable for you is best. Are they all scanned and awaiting online fame?
Oh, and it's "HAFE" for sure! I tend to make accompanying words from it - HAIFy (adj), HAIFer (noun)...HAIFish?
I don't know what besides HAIF would be descriptive yet short enough and not undo the identity HAIF has already made..
-
That's too bad - the Greenway Inn used to be the Colonel Sanders/Houstonaire:
...and, well, at least the old Magic Island building is being maintained? A little bit?

In 1976 there were 9 listed in the metro area:
3900 Bissonnet (about where Bering's is)

14035 S Main
430 W Parker (at 45)
7415 Southwest Freeway (at Fondren)
6802 Spencer Highway, Pasadena
Texas City (no address listed)
-
All I an do is give a list, but the Village area in the mid 1970s had Cobler Books (2517 Times Blvd.), Detering Book Gallery (2311 Bissonnet), Brazos (2314 Bissonnet), and Kendrick Books (2429 Rice Blvd.).
Other random ones:
Montrose had the Libran Book Shop (3700 Yoakum) and Montrose Book Shop (719 Hawthorne).
Southeast - Bellfort Book Store (7143 Bellfort), Palms Book Store (2113 Telephone), and the already mentioned Colleen's (6880 Telephone). Oh, and of course, Mr. Peepers at 5200 Telephone (lol).
